Electronic Arts celebrates an online milestone today as the mega-publisher announced that for the 500 millionth time, an EA Sports title has been played via the expansive online space.
Since launching the ‘09 sports line in June of last year the average daily rate of EA Sports titles played online is 2.2 million, which marks a 175% increase over last years’ figures.
Notable EA Sports titles that have significantly attributed to the crazy successes of the online world include FIFA ‘09, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade, the March Madness Edition of NCAA Basketball ‘09, and of course Madden NFL ‘09.
Madden ‘09 and FIFA ‘09 both boast more than 2.4 million online users adding up to a total of 4 billion minutes of EA Sports games played in the last year which is the equivalent of over 35 years of games played each day.
One man who certainly loves this dynamic cultural success is EA Sports boss Peter Moore and had this to say about the staggering figures:
“The massive migration to online gaming has transformed the video game landscape, and this week’s 500 millionth online EA SPORTS game highlights the radical shift that we’ve helped pioneer in the industry. Online gameplay allows real-time competitions with fans from around the world who speak the global language of sports. EA SPORTS is committed to providing personal access to the emotion of sports by continuing to create immersive online features, compelling new downloadable content and daily real-time stats updates.”
The Madden NFL series turned 20 years old this year, and thankfully John Madden’s departure from broadcasting will not affect the famed series.
