Gamestop executive: We finally have Wii’s!

March 19

As we reported earlier this month, due to the falling value of the British pound, Nintendo has instituted a price hike on the popular Wii console for UK retailers.

However, no such hardship is facing US retailers, in fact, as we distantly approach the fourth holiday season, the Wii supply has “finally” become sufficient.

GameStop Senior Vice President of Merchandising Bob McKenzie remarked in an interview with GamaSutra, that after nearly four years of shortages the Wii is readily available.

“You know, three years later, we finally have enough inventory on the shelf, and we’ve got a couple of weeks in supply of this. That’s good because we can finally determine and gauge it before we get into the fourth holiday season.”

Furthermore, although any idea stemming forth from Nintendo’s creative design icon Shigeru Miyamoto is almost certainly pure gold, McKenzie and GameStop had some reservations regarding the fitness oriented title.

“We weren’t sure if that was really gonna be successful or not, and to be honest I don’t think Nintendo really knew how successful that would be.”

Long story short, McKenzie is happy with the current state of Wii and Wii products availability and will use these business figures to effectively plan for the holiday season.

Anyone still on the prowl for the shiny white console?
