Despite rumors that the role of the legendarily handsome and charismatic District 4 tribute had nearly been cast, those behind the upcoming “Hunger Games” sequel “Catching Fire” say that they couldn’t be further from the truth.
“People are like way ahead of where we are,” producer Nina Jacobs told the Los Angeles Times producer Nina Jacobson told the “Los Angeles Times” at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards.
Whispers of everyone from “Twilight’s “Robert Pattinson to Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”) and Taylor Kitsch ”(John Carter”) have swirled for some time – especially around the internet. No dice, says Jacobs. “We’ve not narrowed things down by any means,” she says. “It’s funny to see how things can take on a life of their own.”
She also emphasized that in the end, despite the fan chatter, it will be about who best fits the role – not, necessarily, who fans “want” to see. “It means something that people can see [an actor] in that light, so you know [the actor] will be accepted by a lot of people, on the one hand,” she said. “On the other hand, you have to kind of ignore it. You have to just sort of act like you’re sitting in a room and you want to just pick the person who gives the best audition and looks and feels most like the part.”
“Catching Fire” will be released by Lionsgate Films on November 22, 2013.
