Roadside Attractions has acquired the U.S. rights to Michael Lichtenstein’s newest film, “Happy Tears.” Starring Demi Moore, Parker Posey, Ellen Barkin and Rip Torn, Roadside plans to release the film in early 2010.

“Happy Tears” recently had its world premiere at the 2009 Berlin Film Festival.

“We’re very excited to be releasing this film and to be working with Mitchell again. These are two larger than life performances from Parker Posey and Demi Moore as sisters who have a love-hate relationship” said Howard Cohen, co-president of Roadside Attractions, in a press release.

The film, starring Parker Posey as Jayne and Demi Moore as Laura, focuses around the declining senility of their father (Rip Torn) and their decision of whether he needs full-time care or not.

“This is a tough time for independent film, and I believe that the team at Roadside Attractions knows how to find an enthusiastic audience for this funny, offbeat movie. I’m very happy to be working with them again” said director Mitchell Lichtenstein in a press release.
