You're insane- or you're one of those frustrated musicians or effete critics who can't stand when a band gets popular... as if that must somehow BY DEFINITION mean they suck now.

Get a clue. While USUALLY bands that undergo the transition from promising raw-edged cult bands to stadium-filling Gods also transition at the same time to sucky conceited fools who've forgotten their roots, SOMETIMES they evolve in a good way, and actually improve at the same time.

Sorry they didnt stay true to their original sound. But get over it - Green Day has evolved.

The evolution they've undergone from "Basket Case" and other songs about wanking to today's thematic masterpiece compositions like American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown is like the journey the Beatles went from "Love me Do" to Abbey Road.

Anyone who has listened to 21st Century Breakdown or American Idiot more than 3 or 4 times knows how solid these albums are. If their orchestration or tendency towards overproduction causes you to lament the early punk days, get over it and realize how original and amazing these guys really are. Especially the melodies. Writing a good melody is the HARDEST thing to do in music. Many amazingly talented musicians can't concoct a hummable tune to save their LIVES. You could make the argument that both recent Green Day albums are messy, but you could also strip those songs down and do an unplugged version of any one of them (as my brothers and I do with our acoustics) and you will see just how classic these songs are.

Stop being such a snob. Open your mind and find the good music regardless of how commercially successful something is.

I don't know about the author, but I'm 25. It's not just old people, who actually seem to like the album, as it sounds like a rip off of old who and queen riffs. It's just an average album that takes what they did last time, and stretches it out. It's not new and special, it's the same thing they did in 2004, just watered down.

The people who are hating on this new Green Day album are probably 30-40 years old. This album is targeting a younger genaration and it's working. Shut up and listen to something more your age. This album rules!!!

The only "American Idiots" around here are the people who agree with this article. If you want simple, mindless, childish punk listen to their old stuff. Their last two albums are genius and the ones who complain about them selling out are the real idiots.

This album is excellent, the few who disagree are stuck in the 90's.

Don't listen to these kids, you got it right. They aren't doing new and inventive things, they are just repackaging "American Idiot" and expecting people to eat it up, and these "American Idiots" have. I mean really, "The Last of the American Girls", what are you 16?

This album isn't inspired, it's insipid.

I completley disagree with this article. This new album is absolutley great. And yea who are you anyway? Green Day is growing and it's impressive. I love all of Green Day's music, but get over it. Stop living in the past and crying about how you wish the band would go back to their simple, pointless music. Green Day is not gonna change back no matter how much you bash them. They made a great album and you're just being stubborn. Green Day rocks and they are more alive then ever.

You've got no idea Zac, I've followed Green Day since their Kerplunk days and this is their most inspired work yet. "Green Day is dead", what garbage...

That's officially the best "your article sucks" comment we've ever had. Finally, someone uses punctuation and capitalization and grammar when attacking us. Finally.

*inhales a deep, pre-rant breath, and steps up to podium* Who are you to say such things? The album is absolutely unbelievable and I congratulate them for having continued to evolve, rather than resort back to the safety haven of three chord awesomeness. Sure Dookie was a fantastic album, lyrically and musically. But they're not Dookie guys anymore. They're brilliant artists who bravely continue to evolve with each new album they release. Songs about hating their parents at this point is absurd. And, no offense, but so are those three amazing chords we as Green Day Superfans hold near and dear to our hearts. Think about it. Shouldn't we be congratulating them for being original in a world of sell-outs?

I completely disagree with your views on this album, insinuating Green Day sold out and is officially... *sarcastically long, drawn-out sigh* ...dead. Shame on you and your lack of good taste in what I truly believe is brilliant music.

Carry on.

-- Sincerely, The Last of the American Girls.
