With an unmistakable voice resonating for the past 30 years, Isaac Hayes was a music legend and pioneer.

His “Theme from Shaft” won both Academy and Grammy awards in the early 1970s.

Mr. Hayes died today at his home in Tennessee. He was 65.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says a family member found him unresponsive by a treadmill, according to the Associated Press.

Mr. Hayes was perhaps best known to this generation as “Chef” from the hit animated series South Park.
