The Pursuit of Happyness

April 1, 2007

One of Sony Pictures’ latest releases on DVD and Blu-Ray is “The Pursuit of Happyness,” released on March 27.

The film features Academy Award nominee Will Smith playing real-life stock broker Chris Gardner in a heartwarming story of a single father defying the odds and raising a son by himself under the toughest of financial circumstances. Smith’s real son, Jaden, co-stars alongside his pops.

Following the rocky career of Gardner, a struggling San Francisco salesman who’s pulling for a competitive, unpaid internship with a top stock-trading firm, the film is a classic tale of rags-to-riches. Throughout the movie, the audience is exposed to a series of emotional ups and downs, as Gardner’s journey toward success seems to get sidetracked by his eviction from his apartment and other financial difficulties.

While in theatres, the film grossed over $145 million, and garnered numerous nominations for the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and NAACP Image Awards.

Both the DVD and Blu-Ray versions come fully-loaded with special features, including “The Man Behind the Movie: A Conversation with Chris Gardner,” and “Father and Son: On Screen and Off,” among other featurettes.
