Playboy Enterprises launched a free public beta of a new digital back issue website, letting aficionados peruse every photo, article and advertisement from 1954-2007.
Just remember that 2009 minus 1954 is 55 years ago.
“Playboy has an incredibly rich history and an intensely loyal readership,” said Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, in a statement. “This is the perfect opportunity to offer them something they have always wanted and also a great way to allow a whole new generation to easily explore the magazine.”
The system uses Bondi Digital Publishing and Microsoft Silverlight, which is like Flash only no one actually uses it.
Bondi has a good reputation in this realm, actually. They did the software for The Complete New yorker.
“Playboy has been an exceptionally influential part of America’s cultural landscape for more than 50 years. We are thrilled to give people a whole new way to explore that history,” said David Anthony, Co-Founder of Bondi.
