Dear EarthTalk,

While The Clorox Company appreciates the positive feedback about Green Works, we would like to address the fact that E, The Environmental Magazine's Earth Talk column is inaccurate in reporting to its readers that chlorine is “labeled as 'sodium hypochlorite…'" on household cleaning products.

Sodium hypochlorite, the basic ingredient in household bleach, and chlorine are not the same thing -- they have entirely different chemistries. At its source, sodium hypochlorite is derived from seawater -- there is no free chlorine in bleach any more than there is free chlorine in table salt (and we don't call that "chlorine salt").

Thank you for your kind attention.

Gregory van Buskirk, Ph.D.
The Clorox Company

P.S. BTW, you have a truly gorgeous publication -- keep up the good work getting the message through!
