I’m so glad to read this review, which echoes exactly what my husband and I thought of this. We have been season members of the ART for a few years, and this was the first production we actually left in the middle of. I had really been looking forward to this play, and was very disappointed. The staging seemed random and in some cases ridiculous, and I especially found the lack of grounding in any time/era very distracting. I have no problem with a play being modernized and set in a different era (the ART’s Julius Caesar production from a couple of years ago was an example of that done REALLY well), but this was just painful to watch.

I agree 100% with this article and review and was very disappointed. I also wanted to leave but stuck it out. It did not get better. This was really truly terrible. Also agree the actor who played Ben was talented and stood out but this was just a very very painful long night. Thank goodness for the bar and being allowed to bring drinks in! so so many people left during intermissions. I often felt embarassed for the actors.

I agree with this whole review. People left at each intermission and my husband kept asking if we could go, but I stuck it out thinking that it was going to get better and it just didn’t. It seemed so well-cast and the actors seemed so talented that I thought they could pull it out but what they were instructed to do was just..bad. The story line was so buried and the staging was so awkward that it was just painful to watch. By the end, which was clearly supposed to be sad, my husband and I were both simultaneously trying not to laugh and rolling our eyes.

I truly regret not reading reviews or asking people BEFORE going to see this play.
