Love ‘Em or Leave ‘Em.. Barefoot?

Ever since the J.Crew catalog hit my doorstep last week in all of its preppy glory, one particular trend keeps peeking out: ankle socks.
J.Crew sells the ankle socks in packs of three. This is my favorite look they show, but I’m loving the pink ones:
What do you think about ankle socks? Do they make you too reminiscent of being a little girl in the 80s? What shoes would you wear to pull this off?

You know, I have been looking at/considering this trend for a while and have seen it with bright tights with sandal/peep-toe heels also. This is one of those things I am nervous about trying. I am not on gossip girl or a runway, can an average trendsetting lady pull it off? I don’t know there. I also think you have to be wearing just the right outfit to pull it off which can be very tricky.
