Snapchat users beware: 4.6 million user names and phone numbers were recently hacked.
Security flaws in the popular app’s system allowed hackers to collect a list of names and data which was then posted on the Internet for all to see on January 1.
Gibson Sec warned Snapchat of the threat last August, but it hasn’t been patched yet. This team has created a website, http://lookup.gibsonsec.org/, that allows users to see if their information was leaked or not.
For people whose name does appear on the list, it is advisable to delete your Snapchat account. This will not remove your name from the list that has already been released, but it will stop anyone else from accessing your information through copycat maneuvers.
