OAKLAND, Calif. — Queron Foreman, the third suspect in the shooting that took place outside of a San Leandro Walmart on November 25th, was arrested earlier today after his mother turned him into the police according to MercuryNews.com. The 18-year-old, a resident of Oakland, is the alleged driver of the suspect vehicle that was connected to the Black Friday incident.

Foreman’s arrest at approximately noon today makes the fourth arrest in this case. Detwone Watson, the alleged shooter, was arrested on Thursday after a six hour standoff with police. Tony Phillips, an accomplice in the attempted robbery that followed the shooting, was arrested within hours of the incident after he had been physically detained by the victim’s family. According to the San Francisco Examiner another suspect, 16 and a resident of Oakland, was also arrested but released after questioning.

The SGV Tribune reports that the suspects allegedly attempted to rob victims Christopher, Rafael, and Javier Murillo. The suspects demanded jewelry and money, and the three victims cooperated by giving them $5, police said. When Phillips attempted to take the gold necklace that Rafael was wearing, a fight begun. It was then that Watson allegedly shot Christopher Murillo in the neck.

Phillips and Watson have been charged by Alameda County prosecutors with attempted murder, robbery and attempted robbery. Authorities stated that Foreman is likely to face similar charges.

Police Sgt. Mike Sobek reported that Murillo was released from the hospital on Tuesday and is currently recovering at home.

Chinese-made players were sold for about $29

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Tuesday that Wal-Mart was recalling millions of cheap Durabrand DVD players after several units overheated and some caught fire.

About 1.5 million silver-colored Durabrand DVD players were recalled August 20, and Wal-Mart expanded the recall September 1 to include pink and purple versions of the same player. About 4.2 million total units are now under recall.

Owners should immediately stop using the players and call Wal-Mart at 800-925-6278.

According to the CPSC, the DVD player’s circuit board can overheat. Wal-Mart received seven reports of fires sparked from overheating causing property damage. No injuries have been reported.

The Chinese-made players were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from January 2006 through July 2009 for about $29.

Apple proudly boasted on Thursday that their highly successful iTunes Store has passed Wal-Mart as the top music retailer in the US.

iTunes has sold over four billion songs to over 50 million customers since opening in 2003.

“We launched iTunes less than five years ago, and it has now become the number one music retailer in the world,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s iTunes vice president. “We are thrilled, and would like to thank all of our customers for helping us reach this incredible milestone.”

The ranking comes from market research data from NPD Group’s MusicWatch survey that tracks consumer purchases. iTunes topped Wal-Mart based on their January and February 2008 sales figures, Apple said in a statement.

This is yet another blow to the hard copy, “old way of doing things” music shopping experience. And yet, it is has shown that legal music downloading can and does succeed in the US.

Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club, in a statement released Friday, announced they will completely back the Blu-ray format and phase out existing HD DVD products. The news is potentially a death blow to HD DVD, following the news that Best Buy and Netflix seem to be headed in the same direction.

“We’ve listened to our customers, who are showing a clear preference toward Blu-ray products and movies with their purchases,” said Gary Severson, senior vice president, Home Entertainment, Wal-Mart, U.S. “With the customers best interest in all we do, we wanted to share our decision and timeline with them as soon as possible, knowing it will help simplify their purchase decision, increase selection, and increase adoption long term.”

“We anticipate enhancing our selection with continued great values in hi-definition Blu-ray products, so our customers can further enhance their entertainment experience at home.”

By June, Wal-Mart and Sam’s stores will only offer Blu-ray hardware and DVD’s. 2008 has not been kind to HD DVD. Toshiba rang in the new year by getting the devastating news that Warner Bros. would produce all of their HD titles on Blu-ray.
