Gaming's greatest crossover - In full HD.

Capcom shocked the world yesterday by announcing the sequel to Marvel vs. Capcom 2 that fans have been clamoring for for almost 10 years Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 appeared on the Dreamcast, original Xbox, PS2, and in arcades and has been a massive cult phenomenon ever since. It recently reappeared on Xbox LIVE/ PSN to a significant reception as well.

USA Today reported the following on MVC3′s tech:

“As you can see, this is the biggest engine a fighting game has ever had under the hood, when it comes to raw processing power,” says Seth Killian, Capcom’s “special advisor” on the game. “This is the MT Framework that’s powering the game, the same technology that brought us Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2.”

For a preview of what you might be getting in MVC3, you may want to check out the recent Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom for the Wii. It totally rocks and I have a feeling the mechanics are going to be very similar.

For anyone who isn’t currently interested in Capcom fighters, behold the badness in this trailer:

From the fact sheet:

Features
• Innovative graphics and gameplay bring the Marvel and Capcom Universes to life: Powered by an advanced version of MT Framework, the engine used in Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2, now comes to Marvel vs. Capcom 3, bringing beautiful backgrounds and character animations to the forefront.
• Evolved VS. Fighting System: Wild over-the-top gameplay complete with signature aerial combos, hyper combos and other original systems. The evolved battle system takes the exciting mind-reading game to a whole new level!
• 3-on-3 Tag Team Fighting: Players build their own perfect team and use Assist Attacks and each character’s special moves to create their own unique fighting style.
• Living Comic Book Art Style: See the most adored characters from the Capcom and Marvel universes brought to life in a "moving comic" style, blurring the boundaries between 2D and 3D graphics.Of course we’ll have more coming soon, and here are a few places you’ll be able to find the good stuff:

Release Date: Spring 2011

Is the Dead Rising all-star in the 2-D fighter?

An author on the Shoryuken forums recently delved into the source code on Tatsunoko VS. Capcom character site and what we found is quite interesting.

Deep within the code he found this:

‘images/oncharactor_btn_zero.jpg’
‘images/oncharactor_btn_frank.jpg’
‘images/oncharactor_btn_yatter02.jpg’
‘images/oncharactor_btn_joe.jpg’
‘images/oncharactor_btn_tekkabla.jpg’

Explanation? Mega-Man Zero, Dead Rising baseball bat wielder Frank West, Yatterman #2, and Joe Asakura, known better as Jason from Battle of the Planets.

For now though, digest the preceeding with a grain of salt as they are but a‚ glorified rumour, but oh man we hope it’s true!

Capcom did however recently reveal Tekkaman Blade for the game. So couple him with the rumoured 5, and you’ve got quite a dandy looking North American lineup for the 2D Wii fighter.

Curious about what's going to be shown at GamesCom '09? Blast's got the latest dirt!

Capcom announced their lineup for GamesCom ’09 in Cologne, Germany on August 19th “" 23rd. Capcom promises that there will be something for everyone, and proves it with their all star lineup: Dark Void, Monster Hunter Tri, Moto GP 09/10, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars, Lost Planet 2, and Resident Evil 5!

Capcom will place a lot of focus on their upcoming third-person shooter, Dark Void. For GamesCom, Capcom will promoting the game’s characteristic jet pack experience with the Dark Void Body Flying Machine, a machine which will allow people to blast off from a vertical airstream at 180km/h. This will serve as a thrilling treat for those who want to experience the action first hand. And in another push to advertise the game, they have branded 200 taxis with the Dark Void logo, so that you may ride around the city in style. Those lucky enough to play the game at the booth will also receive a limited edition Dark Void gift!

Monster Hunter Tri, the latest addition to the Monster Hunter series, will be available as an English demo for the Nintendo Wii. This will allow fans to learn more about the new features and environments of the game. This game promises to expand upon the Monster Hunter experience since it will allow co-op hunting and team play which allow you to explore the fantasy world in depth. This is going to please many American fans who have been watching the game perform well overseas in Japan.

Fans of fighting games need not fear since Capcom will be unveiling their next fighting game for the Nintendo Wii: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars. Fans of Street Fighter will be pleased very pleased with the result. Fan favorites like Ryu and Chun-Li will be available to duke it out against Tatsunoko stars Ken the Eagle, Casshan, and many others with a unique arsenal of moves and combos which will be sure to light up the screens of any Gamer’s television. However, they won’t just have to rely on Ultimate All Stars to satisfy their need for fighting. Spyborgs, the upcoming beat-em-up brawler for Wii promises a two-player, co-op experience as fighters fight their way through hordes of enemies and go up against challenging, but awesome boss battles.

Among the game series being taken in new directions is MotoGP 09/10, a game racing fans will NOT want to miss. The game promises to reward racing style and skill, instead of just focusing on who can cross the finish line first. Gamers in attendance will be allowed to play the demo and get a glimpse of the new challenges this game has established to see who has what it takes to be the best racer.

Lost Planet 2 also makes its worldwide debut at GamesCom on the PS3. The next installment offers gamers a new series of challenges which center on battles erupting on a global scale. In order to defeat the giant Akrid, players will be forced to rely on skill and team work in order to survive the range of harsh terrains. Co-op will allow up to four players to fight their way through the planet as a team. However, the coup de grace for lovers of survival horror will be Capcom’s partnership with Intel to produce Resident Evil 5 for the PC. Intel will be showing off the game in Hall 9.1, 61A.

Anyone lucky enough to be in attendance should definitely check out Capcom’s presentations. Their main booth is situated in Hall 6.1, corridor A, No. 31.

Without a next-gen sequel to Viewtiful Joe, controlling him in the battle against fellow Capcom stars and their Tatsunoko rivals will have to do. Thankfully, from the look of things, it’s going to do just fine. This has to be the best year for fighters in a long time, given what has already released and what is yet to come. We’re all going to have to buy new controllers once we finish wearing out the analog sticks from the super ultra mega happy fun time combo, which in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom apparently causes somewhere in the neighborhood of ninety billion damage.

Is it just me, or is the art style in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom stunning? I think I like the look of this more than Street Fighter IV, to be completely honest. Sure, the graphics may not be as amazing, but I prefer the style.Maybe I’m biased after seeing Ms. Aensland in action though. Hey, it’s not my fault, she’s a succubus!

Luckily, Capcom provided us with a few screenshots prior to taking off for the long weekend, so now we can sit and stare while we wait for burgers and hot dogs to be cooked on the grill.

No Marvel vs. Capcom or Street Fighter IV? That's okay Wii fans, you've got your own exclusive coming.

Capcom had two secret games to unveil at E3, and though no one knew what they were for sure, many hoped that one of them would be a North American release of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, a recent release for the Wii in Japan. Tatsunoko is an animation studio that has been around for over 40 years, and has worked on a variety of anime series during that timeframe. Think of this as Japan’s Marvel vs. Capcom.

The hopes of those pining for a stateside Tatsunoko vs. Capcom release may have just been fulfilled, as a NeoGaf poster (scroll down for the image) posted a scan from a magazine claiming the title was being localized, and then a reader sent in Kotaku the full, two-page image from what they believe is Nintendo Power.

This game will release with support for the classic controller and GameCube controller, just like Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Unlike Marvel vs. Capcom, where you have three characters in your party, you have two in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, but can call in your partner for a support attack, and can also perform tag attacks when switching out.

Here is the official Japanese website, if you want to check out some of the art or the game in action. All I needed to see to be excited was Viewtiful Joe as a playable character from the Capcom side. There is a full list of characters for the Japanese version over at Wikipedia, but I’m not sure if there will be (A) bonus characters or (B) some characters left out due to licensing issues. There isn’t a North American trailer yet, but below we have the Japanese one for your viewing pleasure, as well as a few wallpapers from the Japanese site.
