Family-friendly here

LOS ANGELES — Target’s Bullseye Lounge was filled with some great, family-friendly, fun games from Ubisoft this year at E3. Target stores game sections are currently under renovation across the nation to make this area more user friendly. Instead of having the games behind glass, calling over the employee to open the glass case to even look at a game, Target is installing new shelves that make games more accessible for the public and more hands on by putting them in new shelves that have one of the games out and in plastic casing tethered to the shelf so that it can be held and seen from all angles. I have personally had the chance to experience this in my local Target store and I think it’s great; I can make decisions without having to go through the hassle of calling over the attended only to decide on not purchasing the game I wanted to see.

Target was demoing a few games in their Bullseye lounge that were family friendly two of my favorites were Hollywood Squares and Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. Sadly you will not see Whoopi Goldberg in the game, but it was still fun and there are a few celebrities. When I was playing with the game, for example Brad Garrett (from Everybody Loves Raymond) was the center square. The game was in a very early build, but it seems to follow the format of the show and even has actual clips of stars answering questions from the TV show. It looks promising for anyone who loved the TV show!

Ubisoft also is coming out with a multiplayer video game version of the game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. In this version each player has the chance to answer the question by using their arrow keys on their Wii remote. The multiple choice answers are displayed so that you can easily distinguish from up, down, right or left arrow. You are just going to have to keep your eyes on your own Wii remote so you don’t see what your friend answers. When playing in multiplayer mode there are also no lifelines, but there should be in the single player version. The game is for up to four players and will have over 3000 questions.

Target was also showing off a few other family friendly games that I didn’t spend time with, Gold’s Gym Dance Workout and Dance on Broadway. Both are aimed at getting families active and dancing. Watching the reactions of other people both games look like they should be pretty fun, one guy was even riding a bull in Gold’s Gym Dance Workout. Dance/active games seem to be on the rise this year all over E3 and the ones Target was sponsoring looked to be fun and family friendly.

Retailer Target is selling Xbox 360s and bundling them with $50 in-store gift-cards this week at stores nationwide.

The deal is good for the black Elite units. The $299 ones with the 120 gig hard drive and the copies of LEGO: Batman and PURE.

It’s kind of amazing how affordable these units have become. Sure, we know the gift card is really an effort just to get you into the store to buy more goodies, but either way, the consumer wins.

Anyone still without an Xbox 360 should definitely consider this.

Keep your New Year's resolution of staying fit, or something like that.

Mega-national retailer Target today announced a partnership with Nintendo allowing customers to try out Wii Fit Plus at the store.

Beginning this weekend and lasting until the end of the month, select Target locations nationwide will have kiosks set up in the parking lot and or in the entrance of the stores where shoppers can get their feet on the balance board and new exercise routines offered in Wii Fit Plus.

Nintendo and Target associates will be on hand to answer your questions and provide free healthy snacks, and may or may not corral you into the store to buy the game.

Here’s what the higher-ups at both companies had to say:

"If you’re just embarking on your New Year’s resolutions (or have already abandoned them), the Wii Fit Plus Experience at Target stores will show you how you can have fun and stay active," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Wii Fit Plus has so many customizable options, it’s easy to stay motivated and energized all year long."

"The Wii Fit Plus sampling events give our guests the opportunity to try out this popular fitness game before making a purchase," said Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Target. "We strive to make sure our guests find everything they need to work, live and play all in one convenient and simplified shopping experience."

Target is the store I purchased my Wii from all those years ago. I had to trip a grandmother and punch an 8-year-old to secure my system, so I don’t think I’ll be returning to the store and its bad memories any time soon. What about you?

The rumor seems more believable each day.

Is the Wii about to have its price point officially slashed down $50 to $199?

Anonymous tipsters sending advertisement images to gaming blog Kotaku seem to think so, and from the looks of it, we’re ready to believe.

Although rumors are fun, we really hope Nintendo grants some clarity on this issue, and issues an offical statement.

A new pre-order service at the mega retailer seems quite alluring.

Pre-ordering games is a habit gamers love to take part in.‚ Not only are copies of popular games guaranteed, the emotional attachment of knowing that “I sorta own the game already” is an intangible, but wholly important aspect of the service.

However, the only way to guarantee yourself a copy is to fork over a nominal fee, right? Wrong.‚ A new reservation program at retail outlet Target pays you to do business with them.

The basic idea is as such; you fork over $1 for a collectible reservation card with your game of choice’s logo plastered on its face, and when the release date finally arrives, you bring the card into the store, pick up your game and receive a complimentary $5 gift card, to be exclusively spent at Target.

Clearly, Target is thinking loss leader on this one, because who can buy a video game without soda and snacks, especially if they’re right there?

According to Kotaku.com the first slew of titles to make use of the new system are: Punch Out!!, EA Sports Active, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, and UFC 2009 Undisputed.

Via Kotaku.com
