2 out of 4 stars

It has become a sad trend in current cinema that when creative juices aren’t used to create a film in its own genre a movie comes out just making fun of all the movies in an already existing genre. It started with “Scary Movie,” which was really funny. “Scary Movie 2″ was almost identical, but it still knew how to draw a laugh. Then things started getting out of control with “Not Another Teen Movie,” “Date Movie,” “Epic Movie,” name some other stereotypical genre movie one through 100 here. With each new installation the jokes became cruder and it felt more likely to make the viewer puke than laugh at any of them.

I expected the same kind of over the top crudeness with “Dance Flick” but was shocked when half an hour into the film I was laughing out loud instead of contemplating shooting myself in the face.

Directed by: Damien Wayans

Written by: Keenen Ivory Wayans and Shawn Wayans

Starring: Shoshana Bush, Damon Wayans Jr.

Rating: PG-13

Seen at: AMC Loews Boston Common 19

“Dance Flick” is the third genre-imitation film from the Wayans family, who were responsible for the first two films of the “Scary Movie” franchise. The film makes the 2001 ultimate teen dance movie “Save the Last Dance” its main target by centering the film on an upper-class white ballet dancer, Megan, who loses her mother in a car accident and thus is forced to move to “the ghetto” with her father. There she attends Musical High School and falls back into her love of dance with her new friends, and boyfriend — Thomas, a black, aspiring vagina doctor.

“Save the Last Dance” is the primary plotline, but break-dancer-battle “You Got Served,” ballerina-meets-underclass-janitor-who-also-dances-at-a-professional-level “Step it Up,” and Disney’s favorite harmonic money maker “High School Musical” also take hits along the way.

It has to be said that the Wayans family did a superb research job when writing the film. Having just seen “Save the Last Dance” during one of its million showings on USA this week (probably to help promote “Dance Flick”), I noticed that a lot of the original dialogue remained, just with a slight change of context to highlight the melodramatic content of the actual “Save the Last Dance” script.

The Wayans crew also surprised me by using the current economic situation and oil dependency as a source for laughs rather than just relying on pure physical and sexual comedy. The commuters’ preoccupation with stealing gasoline from the wittingly named “Cheney” gas truck instead of saving Megan’s mother from her flower vehicle in the film opening was quality comedy. The basic comedy root of the film takes a risk by standing on making fun of the racial stereotypes and expectations usual dance movies exploit for drama.

Fans of all the other spoof movies shouldn’t be disappointed. “Dance Flick” doesn’t completely neglect the physical comedy that made all the others funny. There are still plenty of pee jokes and girls with man parts to go around. I’m not a complete hater, though I did feel uncomfortable with the insuppressible chuckle at the Ray Charles eye boogies, and the queef beat-boxing at the end of the film will be giving me nightmares for the next week.

The film did end with a spectacular though not dance related spoof of “Twilight.” When Thomas turns around with a decked out, glittered face (making light of the fact that Edward Cullen did look like a Michael Jackson glove in the sparkle scene — sorry “Twilight” fans) and asks Megan if she is afraid I was so pleased to hear her say, “Uh no, all you did was turn around with glitter on your face. You don’t even have fangs.”

The acting isn’t about to win an Oscar or anything, but “Dance Flick” has raised the bar again for any more spoof movies to come. While at times toeing, and sometimes stepping over, the line to offensive, “Dance Flick” was actually poignant as well as good for a laugh.

Plus, digs at Stephanie Meyer and “Twilight” sparkles? Ace.

As adult spoofs of popular television shows seem like the next big thing, we are laughing out loud watching The Office XXX porn parody that puts a buxom blond in place of the boss and includes plenty of interoffice action.

When the cameras enter the offices of Dinder Muffin, it’s up to ‘World’s Bust Boss,’ Michelle (Ashlynn Brooke) to make sure that the hard drives are hard and the water cooler is wet. And that’s why she’s not only the boss, she’s the employee of the month! It’s the must see XXX tv parody of the year, when a huge all star cast (that’s what she said!) stars in New Sensations hilarious hump-fest, The Office: A XXX Parody. The splooge and jokes fly with Ashlynn Brooke, Jenna Haze, Stephanie Swift, Alexis Texas, Gianna Michaels, Faye Reagan, Dahlia Denyle, Codi Carmichael, James Deen, Dane Cross, Ralph Long, Rooco Reed and Mark Wood. … This is one office where nobody gets laid off… but they all get laid!

The video features Faye Reagan, who we reported on when the usually naked-on-camera redhead got hired to model clothes for American Apparel.

The March 9 DVD has more special features than most Hollywood movies, including a bonus scene, in case you can’t get enough. The feature is 2 hours and 37 minutes.

“We have so many movies in various states of production that it really pushes us to our limits and challenges what we can get accomplished. Our little production company is now bustling with non-stop activity,” said porn producer Jeff Mullen of All Media Play.

The latest series of spoofs also marks the emergence of starlet Teagan Presley as the new princess of poon and porn’s new “it” girl.

The top-selling Not The Bradys XXX is getting a sequel November 18 from Hustler/X-Play.

“Not the Bradys XXX Marcia Marcia Marcia!” replaces Hillary Scott with Bewitched porn star Teagan Presley. The DVD has eight sex scenes and more than five hours of footage.

“It is funny as hell,” said the film’s co-producer, Jeff Mullen.

“We’ve been getting requests for this new Brady movie for six months now and it’s going to be one of the biggest titles we’ve every released,” said Hustler’s director of sales, David Diamond.

The first parody gained national mainstream media attention and has opened the doors for bigger and more expensive porn spoof productions of popular television shows.

“A parody of the popular Brady Bunch television show, the sequel shows that Marcia will do anything to meet pop idol Danny Jones but things turn sticky when TeenPop Magazine informs her parents she sent the rock star a dirty letter and her panties in the mail,” the producers laid out the plot in a statement last week. “Marcia gets grounded & fears her life is ruined before Danny pays a visit to her school and comes to her rescue.”

Porn veterans Alana Evans, Mike Horner, Lynn LeMay and Ron Jeremy reprise their roles, as do many of the stars of the original film.

Teagan is the latest in a string of yearly porn superstars, so she gets the lead this time.

You know them. You love them. Allen and Craig sit down with Blast Magazine.

Click here to learn about the whole cast and crew of Evil Iguana Productions!

The filmmakers took a break between shots to adjust the camera and lighting for the next take. As they reviewed the previous shots, their star received a make-up touch-up. The bright lights were causing his white face paint and green hair dye to run.

When they were ready to resume, the actor once again repeated his lines, strutting around in his green vest and purple suit, flicking his tongue out over his lips in an awkward habit.

The filmmakers cut the scene and congratulated each other on the success. They were filming a new Batman movie that took place two months after the conclusion of July’s blockbuster, “The Dark Knight.” It was their first filming session, and the groups of filmmakers were making great progress.

Their star went to drink some water between takes and was greeted by the owner of the house they were filming in. “Nice makeup,” she said.

They were not on a sound stage or the lot of a billion-dollar production. The actor playing The Joker was not a Hollywood prima donna but mild-mannered 21-year-old Craig Deering of Illinois.

The house’s owner was Deering’s best friend and fellow film maker Allen Murphy’s great aunt Mary’s. While watching the filming, she told her nephew that while she always supported the arts and was glad to help, she had not expected college students running around her house dressed as Batman and an evil clown.

“She watched a little bit through a window and like peered in a couple time, and I think she might have freaked out a little bit,” said Deering.

“In my family, she should have known better,” Murphy, 20, joked.

With their initial success tucked away, the guys decided to venture into feature-length territory. (Photo by Dan Drake)

Deering and the rest of the filmmakers are part of Evil Iguana Productions. The group creates and posts their films on YouTube and suddenly blew up when they spoofed “The Dark Knight” trailer in the summer.

The filmmakers are a bunch of college kids who have been making movies together since high school with nothing but Deering’s father’s video camera and some editing software.

It wasn’t until July when the group released “The Dark Knight” spoof that they became stars. In the four months since its release, the video has received over 5 million views. Their new Batman movie is a follow-up to their spoof of “The Dark Knight” trailer that they released in July.

“I am like really happy that it is getting that good of reviews and like people are still watching because, honestly, when we were making it, and we were about to release it, I was so scared to release that video because I thought we were going to get shot down,” said Deering sitting down to chat with Blast recently. “(I thought) everyone was going to yell at us for like trying to spoof Batman and telling us it was crap, and I was expecting to take it down. But, all the positive feedback and stuff is great.”

Deering is the director and editor of all of the Evil Iguana videos, and also came up with the ideas for the “The Dark Knight” spoof, as well as the mockeries they made of “Twilight” and “The Number 23.”

–

After the success of their Batman spoof, Deering and the rest of Evil Iguana decided to venture into unknown territory — a 30 to 45 minute serious film about the Joker, set in Christopher Nolan’s Batman universe.

Deering said that making the drama was a challenge and a big change from their previous work.

“This is like by far the most professional we’ve been with a movie, which I thought was really cool, because usually we just get our camera and improvise a lot of stuff,” said Deering.

Two buds

“I was a total nerd (in middle school): big glasses, comb over.  I think my graduating class was like 21, it was really small. I tried my best to fit in with the rest of the class, though I was never considered one of the “cool” guys, but it was alright,” said Deering.

Today, Deering has people requesting to be his friend on Facebook whom he has never met but feel they know him through his Youtube series, “The Allen and Craig Show,” and his various film spoofs.

Set for a September 23 release, “Not Bewitched XXX” is billed as “a hilarious story, sizzling sex, plenty of witchcraft … destined for many year-end best lists.”

The video is part of a trailer-per-week promotion from X-Play, leading up to the release next month.

Not Bewitched XXX tells the story about one-year old Tabitha being turned into a sex-happy 18 year old when Aunt Clara casts a spell on her. Advertising executive Darren and his beautiful suburban housewife Samantha have a big problem when Aunt Clara can’t undo the spell and with Tabitha’s 1st birthday party looming, all hell breaks loose when nosy neighbors, the boss and even the police arrive. Wild sex, dirty witchcraft, [etc] abound in this hilarious XXX spoof of the 1960s classic TV show.

“This movie was so much fun to make. I can’t wait until it comes out,” said Jenna Haze who is also recording a commentary track on the DVD.

In addition to Jenna Haze as Samantha and Teagan as Tabitha, the movie will star Sasha Grey, Eva Angelina and Nina Hartley as the meddling mother Endora.

Rounding out the female cast is Sunny Lane, Aurora Snow, Madison Ivy, Daisy Layne, Kandice Nicole, Kelly Skyline, Marli Jane and Winter Sky.

Mike Horner plays worried husband Darren, James Bartholet plays his drunk boss Larry and Ron Jeremy becomes the whacky Dr. Bombay. James Deen, Jack Lawrence, Aaron Wilcoxxx and Nathan Threat round out the 21 member cast.
