SAN FRANCISCO — The cause of a three-alarm fire on Masonic Ave. in San Francisco is still unknown as police continue to investigate.

NBC Bay Area reports that police are treating the fire as a crime scene until they determine the fire’s cause, as the initial emergency call reporting the blaze was made by a screaming woman.

The fire began on January 1 at 8:10 P.M. and put out at about 9:05 P.M. at 1358-1359 Masonic Ave., according to the San Francisco Examiner. The fire displaced ten residents as it damaged three buildings, according to CBS San Francisco. According to Police Sergeant Daryl Fong, one resident was injured and was transported to the Davies Medical Center with unspecified injuries, along with one victim who was treated with shortness of breath.

According to KTVU, residents around Masonic Ave. say that the building occupied by the landlord on the ground floor and two couples, who live on the second and third floors respectively. Individuals who were displaced due to the blaze are staying at the Police Park Station or at a nearby residence, Sergeant Fong states.

SAN FRANCISCO — After a drawn-out battle between San Francisco and Santa Clara for the rights to host 49ers’ home games, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee spoke to the public on Monday, wielding a white flag as he announced to disheartened local football fans that reclaiming the team would be “a very steep uphill climb.”

In light of the record-breaking $850 million dollar loan Santa Clara officials have managed to muster up for their prospective new football stadium—generously financed by Goldman Sachs and Bank of American, among others—Santa Clara is on the brink of satisfying the $1.02 billion budget predicted for the project. The city would go from modest college suburb to the Bay Area’s bustling epicenter of sports, housing both Northern California football teams as well as the nearby San Jose Sharks.

Taking a financial stance against the proposed plan, dubious analysts speculate that the proceeds expected to come in through ticket and merchandise sales will ultimately fail to pay-off the 25-year loan; local Niner fans, on the other hand, are taking a more social approach, arguing that the 49ers—now in their 65th season—have a history embedded in San Francisco’s cultural fabric.

A few tentative plans to keep the Five-Time Super Bowl Champions in San Francisco are still floating around; one with the teams Bay Area neighbors the Oakland Raiders considering a financial merge to build a joint stadium for the two teams There are also various private groups scrambling to fund a stadium in Hunter’s Point. Nonetheless, as Mayor Lee admitted, “the 49ers are committed to building a stadium in Santa Clara,” and unless that decision miraculously falls through, Bay Area fans could end tailgating 45 minutes south of San Francisco.

The best business app is now a great consumer toy, too

Line2 is already one of the best business solutions for the iPhone, and now it’s gotten even better as the company gives consumers a few more reasons to sign on.

Toktumi Inc., the San Francisco-based company behind Line2, announced Thursday that the app will be updated to include SMS text messaging. The update, Line2 version 3.0, has just been approved by Apple and will hit the iTunes store soon.

This makes Line2 the first VoIP app to incude SMS texting.

“Unlike texting-only applications for the iPhone, Line2 combines VoIP calling capabilities and carrier-grade texting in one app, so that customers can use one number for both types of communication,” the company said in a statement. “There is no other calling app available on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch that offers this.”

In addition to the update, the price of Line2 has dropped to $9.95 per month.

"We believe that Line2 Version 3.0 will be extremely popular with consumers. We added unlimited SMS and removed business features that consumers didn’t need, allowing us to lower the price to just $9.95/month and broaden Line2′s appeal," said Peter Sisson, Founder and CEO of Toktumi. "We still provide our business customers a full-featured version of Line2 with all of the features of the prior version, plus unlimited SMS, for $14.95/month.”

Line2 allows users to add a second phone number to their iPhone, which works over the cellular and WiFi networks. It also works on the new iPod Touch models.

A copy of the Koran, the Muslim holy book, was found burned at a mosque in the Bay Area, according to an Islamic group.

The Koran was found this week at the Islamic Society of San Francisco, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an Islamic advocacy group.

Regrettably, the recent wave of hate incidents targeting American Muslims has made its way to the Bay Area,” said Zahra Billoo, a spokeswoman for the group’s Bay Area branch. “It is unfortunate that a minority community is being targeted by hate in this way, and we are appreciative of the support that has been expressed by local elected officials and interfaith leaders.”

She said that Muslim communities nationwide have been targeted by similar acts in recent weeks.

The Detroit News reported Thursday that police identified a suspected Koran burner there.

Tensions have been high all month since a Florida Christian pastor threatened to hold a Koran burning ceremony on September 11.

News surrounding the third Fabe installment coming this week. What'll it be?

Lionhead Studios, the development squad responsible for the Fable franchise is led by a man named Peter Molyneux. This guy loves hyping his games and sometimes he can take it too far.

Today it looks like we’re getting another slice of hype cake, as the Molyneux, in an interview with Gamereactor, was quoted saying “There’s some very, very big things happening in Fable. Bigger than you think, and it’s going to really upset people.” Molyneux then added he is “really scared” about telling people the news and said “they’re going to get super pissed off, they really are.”

Getting people angered with a title before it releases sounds kind of backwards. But, it’s Peter Molyneux we’re talking about here, so really, anything goes.

What kind of huge news could get fans angry? Reporting site Joystiq says the events of Fable II were possibly one long dream sequence. What do you think?

We’ll have an answer for you at the end of the week when the X10 gaming shindig happens.

WERE YOU THERE??? Blast wants to hear from you! Email us!

Reports are coming out of California that the Robert Pattinson “Twilight” event had to be canceled after more than 3,000 screaming girls showed up instead of the 500 the organizers expected and were ready for.

A 911 call came in Monday, and early reports say that one girl fainted and another got her nose broken from being trampled.

This all happened early Monday, but the event was not supposed to start until 6 p.m.

A report in the San Jose Mercury News says that the unruly crowd at the Stonestown Galleria mall gathered early in the morning, hoping to get a glimpse of the 22-year-old star. A line formed around the mall building.

Lieutenant Neville Gittens, spokesman for the San Francisco police, told Blast in a brief interview that mall management shut down the event after asking police their advice on the crowd situation. Gittens said there were no arrests but could not comment on any of the alleged injuries.

An employee at the Hot Topic store that was hosting the event told the paper that the event was shut down by the police.

And just a reminder: Boston has the exact same event planned for Friday at the Hot Topic store at the Square One Mall.

Blast Magazine’s intern, Liz McClendon, and Blast’s Entertainment Editor, Terri Schwartz, contributed to this report
