Apple CEO Tim Cook unveils the new iPad at an event in San Francisco

Every time Apple hosts a press conference, the eyes of the media are on them. Last year, we were expecting to see a new iPhone. What we got was an upgrade. This year we expected a new iPad, but in the end the upgrade is what we got.

Releasing March 16 the 3^rd generation iPad will feature a 2048 x 1536 Retina display, a quad core A5X processor and according to Apple have “1 million pixels more than an HDTV.”

The camera has seen a new update as well with a 5 megapixel iSight camera similar to that on the iPhone 4S. It will have autofocus and white balance as well as 1080p video recording.

Apple’s personal waitress, Siri, also comes included in the package as well as a voice dictation feature.

The new graphics processor and increased resolution makes for some amazing gaming, something that was heavily showcased at the conference.

A new app, iPhoto, will not let you edit your pictures right on the iPad and provide a more intuitive way to look at pictures.

The biggest feature by far is the inclusion of 4G LTE support with Verizon and AT&T carriers. Download speeds have been increased now, boasting a 21 Mbps HSPA+.72 Mbps LTE. Despite this, battery life will remain the same at 10 hours, 9 on 4G.

It will weigh 1.4 pounds and be 9.4mm thin.

Finally, it will retail for $499 for the 16GB wi-fi version, $599 for the 32GB, and $699 for the 64GB ($629, $729 and $829 for the 4G versions respectively).

The American Psychological Association, meeting in at a convention in Boston, revealed a eries of studies that show video games have a series of positive effects on students in the classroom and surgeons in the operating room.

According to the Associated Press, a study of fith, sixth and seventh graders found that playing video games helped them improve their problem-solving abiltiies and cognitive and perceptual skills.

Another study showed that “surgeons who played video games were 27 percent faster at advanced surgical procedures and made 37 percent fewer errors than those who didn’t.”

A bump in the road remains. Other studies showed students who play violent video games did tend to be more hostile than non-violent game playing kids.
