All shades of Grohl come to Rock Band next week

The many faces of Dave Grohl, and some others, are your additions to the Rock Band Music Store for the week.

Beginning next Tuesday, gamers can enjoy a triple-shot of grungey Nirvana tunes, and an ice-cold four-pack of Foo Fighters, oh and some Joan Jett on the side, for that touch of randomness Harmonix so often provides.

You know le drill, each tune is a master recording and available for $2.

Available on Xbox 360 and Wii (Nov. 3) and PlayStation 3 system (Nov. 5):

Surviving Nirvana bandmates “very dissapointed” over Guitar Hero 5

We already told you all about Courtney Love’s vengeful reaction to her husband’s inclusion in Guitar Hero 5 as a playable character, but the drama gets even more tense today as Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, surviving members of Nirvana, spoke out against Activision and Guitar Hero 5.

“While we were aware of Kurt’s image being used with two Nirvana songs, we didn’t know players have the ability to unlock the character,” they said. “This feature allows the character to be used with any kind of song the player wants. We urge Activision to do the right thing in ‘re-locking’ Kurt’s character so that this won’t continue in the future.”

Activision quickly fired a statement back to the digruntled party stating they “secured the necessary licensing rights from the Cobain estate in a written agreement signed by Love to use the singer’s likeness as a fully playable character in “Guitar Hero 5,” which includes “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Lithium”

Looks to me like a situation of laxisdasical agreement without proper evaluation of the subject matter. What do you think?

Nirvana MTV Unplugged performance on DVD

A previously unreleased acoustic performance by legendary alternative rock band Nirvana will hit shelves soon with behind the scenes footage and additional songs not originally seen on the 1993 broadcast.

“The complete, unedited 66-minute concert including ‘Something In The Way’ and ‘Oh Me’ not aired during the original 44-minute broadcast,” MTV said in a statement. “‘Unplugged in New York’ also includes five previously unreleased rehearsal performances and MTV News interviews with the band and audience members.”

“Unplugged” was filmed Nov. 18, 1993 at Sony Music Studios, the show first aired on MTV Dec. 14, 1993, months before Kurt Cobain’s death.

The DVD also features a “Bare Witness” interview with the band.
