The word trial means temporary or something that will one day expire, but Electronic Arts and Mythic Entertainment don’t care for dictionaries and their silly rules, they make their own!

Announced today by the mega-publisher and developer is a never-ending trial for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, the ambitious MMORPG.

Gone is the lousy 10-day trial in favor of one that lasts forever and always and lets new and returning gamers explore all 24 different careers, so as to hopefully find the one most suitable based on your preferences.

Additionally, players on the trial can travel to one Empire vs. Chaos zones of Nordland and Norsca and can attempt the Hunter’s Vale, a new dungeon or, as the press release reads, “battle other players in the instanced scenarios Nordenwatch, Khaine’s Embrace and Gates of Ekrund.”

"With the introduction of the endless free trial and streaming client, we are making it easier than ever for a new player to join the WAR," said Jeff Hickman, executive producer, Mythic Entertainment. "We’ve worked hard to create a more informative and community driven new user experience, and now we are giving players an unlimited amount of time to explore the early parts of the game at their own pace. We are confident that players new and old will find all the enhancements we’ve made to WAR over the past year worthy of their time and commitment."

What’s more, Mythic introduced a new streaming endless trial client so requires only an initial 1GB download while additional content streams in the background as required while playing. Sweeeet!

Mythic Entertainment and Electronic Arts today announced a special and limited live Halloween event going down in the popular MMORPG Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

Beginning October 23 and running through November 2, players can enjoy the Daemon Mask event quest, a new Daemonball Rally Public Quest, and a special Realm vs. Realm scenario. And not to worry because the entire event is tailored for players of both the Destruction and Order.

“This is a terrifying time of year within the world of Warhammer and the Daemon Moon Rising live event is our way of fighting against the darkness that encompasses the land” said Jeff Hickman, Executive Producer for Mythic Entertainment. “We call on all players to rise up against the malevolent creatures that threaten the land and keep safe the Realms. But beware, for under the cold, dark madness of the Daemon Moon, anything can happen!”

Additionally, participants in the event can earn the following: “the Fiendfang with bonus to healing, damage, renown, and XP; the Face of the Unborn mask; the Meatcleaver’s mask; the Face-Eater’s mask; the arcane Malleus Daemonarium; and special talisman components imbued with the might of Chaos itself.”

Electronic Arts and Mythic Entertainment today revealed that the epic MMORPG “Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning” will be released on the Mac platform October 28.

Available in digital fashion at GameTreeOnline.com, “WAR” will run you $19.95, but includes 30 days of playtime.

Electronic Arts and Mythic Entertainment in conjunction with Black Library Publishing today announced “Forged In Chaos,” the third installment in the epic Warhammer Online series which delves into the vicious lore of the universe.

Releasing at all major bookstores this fall, and penned by C.L. Werner, “Forged in Chaos” not only has a bad-ass name, but also‚  “provides an epic and gripping account of Destruction’s incursion into the infinitely massive and decidedly deadly Bastion Stair in search of the legendary Spear of Myrmidia.”

Admittedly, my knowledge of Warhammer Online is nearly nonexistent, but as with any writer, I appreciate a well written tale, which Forged In Chaos seems to be.

Jeff Hickman, Executive Producer at Mythic also enjoys the book when he says: “…Rife with internal conflict, shifting allegiances, and a never-ending lust for murder, we see firsthand how this unholy alliance of Destruction is just as deadly to each other as they are to the armies of Order.”

Five days ago Electronic Arts dated and detailed the final in-game live expansion to hit the expanses of Mythic’s massively multiplayer online role-playing game Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and today that very expansion, Rise of the Tomb Kings, went live for members of Order and Destruction to wreak havoc in.

In case you missed our original post detailing the event, let’s play a little catch-up.

“Rise of the Tomb Kings” has players of both factions assembling giant airships to reach the famed treacherous deserts of the land of the dead to claim all sorts of “unimaginable wealth.” I’ve got a pretty imaginative mind, so Mythic, you’re gonna have to really wow me.

Furthermore, more serious and committed gamers can earn exclusive titles including “Sky Captain” for members of Order, and “Master of the Air” for Destruction players.

Electronic Arts and Mythic Entertainment today announced the beginning of “Beyond The Sands” -the most recent event held in the virtual reality of Warhammer Online.

As part of the “Call to Arms” live expansion, an endeavor Mythic embarked upon to bring continually fresh content to players, “Beyond The Sands” offers players of both the Order and Destruction factions the ability to migrate south towards the Land of the Dead.

For this week only players must recover the artifacts of Nehekharan Kings and put down the problematic Liche Priests.‚  Should you succeed, not only glory is your recompense, rather you’ll earn the elusive “Grave Robber” title, unique “Tomb King” trophies, and for online masters, the stunning “Aviator Goggles” pictured at right.

“The next big event in the Call to Arms live expansion has arrived, and we couldn’t be more excited,” said Mark Jacobs, vice president and general manager of Mythic Entertainment. “‘Beyond the Sands’ introduces the ancient and eternal Tomb Kings to WAR, a game already packed with amazing content. This live event is just a small taste of the Tomb Kings-themed, undead mayhem still to come!”

Mythic Entertainment announced today that the Dwarf Slayer and Orc Choppa careers are now available and playable in their ambitious, realm vs. realm oriented MMORPG, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

As part of the ongoing Call to Arms in-game content expansion, spanning four months and culminating in June with the release of brand new realm vs. realm gated dungeon, the two new careers available today aim to keep content fresh and occupy the gamer until the next batch of in-game materials are made available.

Thinking about playing a Choppa or Dwarf Slayer?‚  The character descriptions for both are quite interesting.

Orc Choppa:

“Their endless love of battle drives Choppas into a nearly euphoric state, especially when they come across an enemy who presents a real challenge and their battle rage becomes stronger and stronger with each vicious strike.”

“While the Choppa is single-minded, they’re also clever in their brutality, and they have found that they can channel their battle rage into massive, exhausting attacks, briefly sacrificing their enraged power in an attempt to fell the enemy with a single powerful blow.”

Whereas the honorable Dwarf Slayer is described as such:

“Every moment of a Slayer’s life is filled with the rage of their dishonor and loss. As they battle an enemy, they become more enraged with every passing moment, furious and saddened that this foe is not strong enough to bring them death’s atonement. This rage fills them with deadly fury, making them more and more dangerous as it builds up. Eventually, their rage will begin to push their body past its limits, putting their own health and safely into dire straits.”

WAR, to me is a breath of fresh air into the MMO genre, and at least worth a try if the‚  general monotony of World of Warcraft has got you down.‚  Just last week Mythic began offering a 10-day free trial, and while limited, still effective for gauging an interest of disinterest in the title.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, the ambitious MMO from Mythic Entertainment, based on the popular tabletop war game, in an apparent attempt to draw gamers to the title for its “Call to Arms” expansion, has launched a 10-day free trial that promises the “glory of war.”‚  Ten exciting days made up of hunting Squigs, stomping Stunties, exploring massive capital cities, and battling opposing players in thrilling Realm vs. Realm combat.‚  It all sounds so great, but a closer look at the fine print may change your mind.

Besides the obvious 10-day limitation, which is equal to the trial offered by World of Warcraft, trial users are restricted to tier 1 content, and to the Capital Cities.‚ ‚  Want to sell goods at the auction house? Nope can’t do it.‚  Users on the 10 day trial can only purchase goods and receive mail, but can’t send it.‚  Furthermore, trial users are confined to designated servers, so you’re high level buddy can’t show you the ropes and ease you into the experience.

Overall, if you’ve been waiting until the price was right to try out WAR, now is a great time to jump into the world.‚  A trial is just a trial, having access to every piece of content and every feature would be silly, an MMO cannot be experienced fully in ten days, Mythic knows this and after the tenth day is hoping you’ll upgrade and explore and interact with the entire universe.

Free is free, and that feeling of “what if” will be forever erased from your mind if you decide to give it a go.‚  I got my hands on WAR at Comic Con and I was most impressed, as a recovering WoW addict it was a fresh of breath air into my Azeroth filled lungs.
