Electronic Arts today announced that Faith and her free-running prowess will soon be playable on the go, in the form of an iPhone/iPod Touch miniature title.

Due out in January, Mirror’s Edge for Apple’s handheld line, will feature full-on 3D graphics and all the wall running, jumping, sliding, and pure parkour you loved from the console versions.

It’s said to contain 14 levels, but EA made no mention of price or an exact release date.

Mirror’s Edge 2D, the Web-based Flash game, is one of my most favorite ever time wasters. Seriously, it’s so much fun. If you haven’t played that one, it’s free and available right now at Mirror’sEdge2D.com. Play it!

If you like Mirrors Edge, but would have liked it even more without machine guns, then this time trial map is for you.

Mirrors Edge was a fantastic game. It had moments of frustration of course, but overall, it was a wonderful idea wrapped in a neat package that I enjoyed immensely. Though it wasn’t one of my top 10 games of 2008, it was definitely a “just missed” kind of title. My favorite part about the game was the thrill and exhilaration the running sequences gave you, as there was nothing more satisfying in the Mirrors Edge universe than running and jumping on rooftops, over fences, through alleys and around your enemies.

That’s why when EA announced that there would be additional time trial maps for purchase in the future-and that they would leave the city behind and delve into the realm of main character Faith’s imagination-my attention was caught. The first of these maps was released exclusively for the Playstation 3, and it’s called Synesthesia.

Synesthesia means a “joining the senses”. If you were to experience the effects of synesthesia, your perception would be slightly different, as you would be more aware of the colors, shapes and sensations surrounding you.

The map is aptly named, as all you can see stretching around you are brightly colored blocks, all different geometric shapes, and with various paths amongst them that you need to traverse in order to make it through in the shortest amount of time possible. Unlike the city, where your brain would naturally seek out certain objects-the red colored objects that signified at least one way through the maze of rooftops, or maybe a fence, ledge, etc.-all you have to work with here are the shapes and your own imagination as it seeks out the fastest route.

If you have played the time trial maps that come packaged with the game, and you enjoyed them, then this free map is right up your alley. If you’re on the fence, remember; this is essentially a demo of the downloadable content, so you have nothing to lose but the time you spend testing it. As for my own opinion, playing through Synesthesia was as fun as the trailers led me to believe, and I’ll be waiting for the rest of the pack to release later in February.

Check out the screens from the downloadable map pack, to see what a difference there is between the original game’s level design and these new sets, developed exclusively for time trials. Remember, though this map is PS3 exclusive, the DLC will be available across all three platforms that support the title.

If you thought jumping on rooftops gave you motion sickness, wait until you get a load of this. This just might be worth the barf bag.

Though the full package of Time Trial maps for Mirror’s Edge has been pushed back until February, the free PS3 exclusive map “Synesthesia” is still on target to be released today. This map will give you an idea of what the rest of the maps will be like, as, according to producer Tom Farrer, via the Playstation Blog, they wanted to “leave the city behind” in order to create more abstract maps that focused on the core of the Mirror’s Edge experience. Meaning, lots of fantastic, stomach-twisting parkour movements, and this time without machine guns.

The inspiration for the maps is basically the things Faith would dream about, if she were also running in her dreams. There’s no overall theme to them that links them all together, but still, today’s release should give you an idea of what EA was shooting for when they put this time trial map idea together. Check out the trailer for the PS3 exclusive map below, and be sure to download it when it’s available on the PSN today.

Players who pre-ordered the upcoming Electronic Arts DICE Studio title Mirror’s Edge received a code to unlock the game’s Time Trial mode from the demo that is about to be released.

Time Trial mode challenges players to find the fastest route across the rooftops and through the streets. Players can upload their best time to the Mirror’s Edge leaderboards for their friends to download and compete against. Players can see their friend’s “Ëœghost’ run as they race their way through the course to the top of the leaderboards.

We first heard about Mirror’s Edge at E3 this year, and we love the prospects for this title.

Mirror’s Edge hits stores November 11.

Here’s a gallery of images that we were not allowed to release until right … about … now.

Mirror’s Edge was one of the best looking games demoed at E3 and Leipzig this year.

“In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called runners transport sensitive data way from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed, your sister has been framed and now you are being hunted.”

This fast-paced action-adventure game is coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 November 11 and the PC later this winter, Electronic Arts’ DICE studio confirmed this week.

The console demo will be available via Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PLAYSTATION Store. The demo will feature the prologue of the game including the tutorial and a segment of the single-player story mode.

Starting September 26, players who pre-order Mirror’s Edge at selected retailers will get an exclusive code that unlocks the Time Trial mode in the demo. This mode challenges players to find the fastest route across the rooftops and through the streets. Players can upload their best time to the Mirror’s Edge leaderboards for their friends to download and compete against. Players can see their friend’s ‘ghost’ run as they race their way through the course to the top of the leaderboards, DICE said.

Check out the game’s official website for more, including videos and screens.

SAN DIEGO — Electronic Arts Inc.’s DICE studio announced Thursday that it would team with DC Comics to create a limited run comic book adaptation of their upcoming Mirror’s Edge action adventure game.

“The characters have really come alive in the game, and we are pleased that we will be able to add to the canon of the Mirror’s Edge universe with this project,” said Hank Kanalz, vice president/general manager for WildStorm, the DC division that’s making the comic.

Mirror’s Edge is a gutsy first person game involving a heroine messenger in a world where information is tightly controlled by the government.

Okay, so it wasn't the most surprising, awe-inspiring E3 ever, but we had a great time and saw some amazing things.

Here's what we took away from the conference.

LOS ANGELES — Okay, so it wasn’t the most surprising, awe-inspiring E3 ever, but we had a great time and saw some amazing things.

We witnessed a revitalized Atari, a ballsy Electronic Arts and the peak of the music game fad.

Here’s what we took away from the conference:

BEST GAME
Fallout 3
Bethesda Softworks
Xbox 360/PlayStation 3
September

Bethesda built a winner from scratch with an amazing looking Fallout 3. Blast played this game, Blast loved this game. You won’t see a more visually and audibly appealing video game this year. This game is a massive project for any developer, but Bethesda, who saw huge success with "The Elder Scrolls" role playing game series, seems poised to release a game of the year candidate in the fall.

BEST ONLINE GAME
DC Universe Online
Sony Online Entertainment
PlayStation 3, PC
TBA

Comic book legend Jim Lee was the Executive Creative Director of the game and created the visual world DC Universe would be set in based on art from the entire history of DC comics. You get to team up with or fight against Superman and Batman. How cool is that?

BEST HANDHELD GAME
N+
Atari
Nintendo DS and Sony PSP
August 12

With 300 puzzling levels to explore, plus many hidden unlockable ones, N+, based on the hit Flash game, was the best handheld game at E3, and E3 agreed by giving it best in show in the DS and PSP categories. N+ led the charge for a revitalized Atari Inc.

GUARANTEED BEST SELLER/BEST PC GAME
Spore
Electronic Arts
PC
September 7

Within 18 days of the release of Spore Creature Creator, there were over 1.7 million "Spores" created. That’s more than the 1.589 million actual species known to exist on earth, Will Wright pointed out at the EA press conference Tuesday.
