Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson, who co-starred on “Lost” as John Locke and Benjamin Linus, will star in a new show from J.J. Abrams, tentatively titled “Odd Jobs” on NBC.

NBC emerges as the winner after it engaged in a bidding war with two other networks. Thought little is known about the series, it will focus on O’Quinn and Emerson as former special ops agents. NBC has given a put-pilot commitment, ensuring that it will produce and air a pilot, which will likely lead to a series pickup.

The first trailer of the super-secret "Super 8" shows before Iron Man 2 this weekend.

The five of you out there not planning on catching "Iron Man 2" this weekend are going to miss more than another chance to catch Tony Stark in action; you are going to miss your chance to get your first look at J.J. Abrams’ new mystery project, co-produced with directing icon Steven Spielberg.

The Internet has been buzzing this week with the news that Abrams, creator of the infamous TV show “LOST,” was working on a new super-secret project called "Super 8." The speculation was that it might be a sequel to the Abrams-produced 2008 film "Cloverfield."

Turns out that’s wrong. Apparently "Super 8" is a film that’s a kind of homage to the ordinary people thrust into extraordinary situations, like "Jaws" and "E.T." that Spielberg specialized in the 80′s. Abrams apparently approached Spielberg last year with the idea and asked for his approval of the project.

Anyone whose stomachs got a little queasy with the shaky, handheld cameras in "Cloverfield" don’t have to worry. Abrams is shooting the modestly budgeted (by summer blockbuster standards) $45 million film with stationary cameras and will direct this one for release next summer before hopping aboard the Enterprise again for "Star Trek 2," which is set for release in summer 2012.

Keep your eyes out for the Abrams-directed trailer of "Super 8" this weekend in front of "Iron Man 2" and check back with Blast for regular updates about "Super 8" as more information on the top-secret project becomes available.

Details are sparse, but Blast has learned that FOX is interested in a new J.J. Abrams series.

Abrams’ company, Bad Robot Productions, will be teaming with Warner Bros. Television for a 30-minute medical-themed comedy.

There’s no title yet and no word on casting, but we know that Mike Markowitz (“Becker”) will be writing the show and executive producing. Bryan Burk, from Bad Robot, will also executive produce.

J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot also produces the FOX drama “Fringe,” and Abrams made the recently successful Star Trek reboot.

In this Blair Witch-Godzilla-I Am Legend mix of film, audiences can expect mayhem, bad camerawork and good entertainment. Although Cloverfield is only 90 minutes long, and no specific characters are the ‘heroes,’ every second is packed with action.

The film, produced by J. J. Abrams, directed by Matt Reeves, and written by Drew Goddard, starts at a gathering were friends try to enjoy a going away party before the building they are in collapses. The cameraman, Hud, is responsible for showing us what happens when a monster arrives to New York City and tears everything apart. More than a tale about a monster, though, this is a tale of survival and of how people react in catastrophes.

Hud is the perfect example of what people do when emergencies happen, instead of calling 911 they use their phones to take pictures. The group of friends the audience gets acquainted with shows human reaction at its finest. How will they escape; save themselves; and is there even a way to do so? The fact that the movie takes place in New York is even more interesting.

As a country that has suffered a major emergency in the Big Apple, this movie makes us rethink whether or not we are prepared for another tragedy. The film is effective in showing that when bad things occur many of us do not know what is happening and must rely on police, firefighters and other safety agencies for information and protection. Cloverfield is different because it exploits this real life fear.

Finally, the movie is successful because there is no resolution. We are left to wonder what happens, whether the monster was defeated and whether New York will rise form the ashes, yet again. This grim European-outlook of life not having a happy ending wraps up the movie as a whole.

You can expect drama and confusion. Overall, however, you can expect a movie that will keep you in the edge of your seat and will stay in your mind after you leave the theater.
