Live blogging Barack Obama's acceptance speech in Denver's Invesco Field.

Live blogging Barack Obama’s acceptance speech in Denver’s Invesco Field.

10:14 PM

The crowd of 80,000+ is chanting “Yes We Can!” Barack Obama officially accepts the party’s nomination for presidency.

10:15 PM

He thanks Hillary Clinton for her work on her campaign and his. He also thanks Bill Clinton for his wonderful endorsement speech last night, and Ted Kennedy for his resilience. Also, Joe Biden for his speech, and his work. He also thanks his wife, Michelle Obama, and his daughters.

10:18 PM

He talks about the American dream. He says all that is wrong with America, in regards to the economy and other major problems are a direct result of the Bush Administration.

10:20 PM

“Enough! This moment, this election is our chance to keep, in the 21st century, the American promise alive.” He references the Republican convention next week, and says we are here because we love this country too much to let the next four years look like the last eight. “Eight is enough!”

10:23 PM

“Senator McCain likes to talk about his judgment, but what does it say about your judgment when you think George Bush was right 90% of the time?” He talks about what McCain has said about the economy and the American people, “a nation of whiners” when it comes to their complains about the economy’s downfall. He is getting in touch with middle-class America. He’s showing there is no disconnect, like McCain tries to make it seem, and like many are afraid of. Obama himself, rose from nothing to everything, he is the epitome of a lower-middle class man, he chose social service over a high-paying post in a law firm.

10:26 PM

He talks about the difference between each party’s view on progress. “We measure progress in the 23 million new jobs that were created when Bill Clinton was president.” Many economical issues that effect middle-class families today, that didn’t effect them when the last democrat was president. Issues that effect them now under George Bush, who all democrats liken to John McCain.

10:29 PM

Reminds the public about his civil service in Chicago 20 years ago. Talks about all his grandmother has done for him, the sacrifices she made for him to have a better life. He puts down the comparison to celebrity that McCain has tried to enforce upon him, saying his life has not been that of a celebrity, but of a hard-working American.

10:31 PM

A government should do “that which we cannot do.” “Our government should help us, not hurt us, it should ensure opportunity…for every American who’s willing to work.” “We rise or fall as one nation”

10:32 PM

His Change: A tax cut for companies that create jobs in America, not ship them overseas. Eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-ups. Cut taxes for 95% of all working families. “In 10 years we will finally end our dependence on oil from the middle-east.” “We will do this.”

10:34 PM

Off-shore drilling is a short term measure not a long-term solution. “Not even close.” He says he will tap our natural gas reserves and fund clean coal companies. He wants fuel-efficient cars to be built in America. $150 billion over the next 10 years in renewable energy, creating five million new jobs that can’t be outsourced.

10:36 PM

World-class education for children, so all children have the chances he has had. Higher salaries for teachers. Affordable college educations for social servants or those in the military. Affordable, encompassing health-care for all Americans. References his sick grandmother, who had cancer, arguing with health insurance companies.

10:38 PM

Equal pay for equal work. “We cannot meet 21st century challenges with a 20th century bureaucracy.” He says he’s ready to lead, and is ready to debate McCain, who says Obama isn’t experience enough to be Commander-in-chief.

10:42 PM

References all that is wrong with McCain’s view on the war, and all that he, Obama, has stood up for. He is showing everyone that he knows a lot about foreign policy, and with Biden by his side, no one need worry. “We are the party of Roosevelt, we are the party of Kennedy, so don’t tell me this party won’t keep us safe.” “We are here to restore that legacy.”

10:45 PM

Obama says he will end the war responsibly. He, eloquently, tells everyone he will once again make America a symbol of hope and prosperity.

10:47 PM

“I’ve got news for you John McCain. We all put our country first.”

10:48 PM

Acknowledges the differences of opinions between republicans and democrats, on gun control, same-sex marriage and abortion. Highlights what everyone can agree on, keeping AK-47’s out of the hands of criminals, keeping gays and lesbians free of discrimination and reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies.

10:50 PM

“This election has never been about me, it’s about you” Acknowledges that he isn’t the typical presidential candidate, but he has a dream to help the people of this country. He’s a new player, with new ideas and a new brand of politics. He will bring change “to Washington.” Because, he says, change doesn’t come “from Washington.”

10:53 PM

Talks about where he’s seen change around the country, and how he will make life easier in America. He talks about the promise that defines America. He talks about Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech 45 years ago, a speech that started a revolution that has allowed him to be where he is now.

10:56 PM

He ends with a God Bless the United States of America.

This has been a wonderful speech. He’s saying everything that needs to be said, he is putting McCain’s accusations to rest and being as eloquent as ever. He gave every American, I think, proof that his inexperience isn’t a bad thing. He used his inexperience as a tool, saying that “change doesn’t come from Washington, it comes to Washington.” What I really liked was the organization of the speech, how he started off addressing the middle-class, the one’s the republicans have said he is disconnected from, and really hit home with them. He addressed all the issues that concern each and every one of them, and probably surprised a few viewers. Eloquence and clarity is something that you can always expect from Obama, but tonight’s speech was especially well-delivered, it had a different feel, an urgent feel, and was impeccable.

That’s it from me and the DNC.

Boston, MA – The Massachusetts Republican Party issued the following statement today in response to Governor Patrick’s speech to the Democrat National Convention

MassGOP Chairman Peter Torkildsen said, “Tonight, Deval Patrick spoke in Denver, but he might have well as spoken in Hollywood, because what he talked about had no basis in reality and no relation to his own dismal record of broken promises. Having an eloquent, but extremely inexperienced Governor is bad enough: an eloquent, but extremely inexperienced President would be much worse. The bottom line is this, Barack Obama is not ready to lead and not ready to govern.”

Tonight, all eyes will be on Senator Hillary Clinton. She's used to it, but this time, the spotlight will cast a bitter glow.

Tonight, all eyes will be on Senator Hillary Clinton. She’s used to it, but this time, the spotlight will cast a bitter glow.

As she takes to the stage to unite the party, she is essentially freeing it for her once rival, and now leader, Senator Barack Obama. Her speech comes a day before the hotly anticipated speeches of her husband, former president Bill Clinton, and the man who took what many thought (I didn’t) should have been her job, Senator Joe Biden.

Tonight, she’d give anything to be in Obama’s shoes. But her job is very important, to unite all democrats behind one leader. Many have questioned whether her and Mr. Clinton are putting their best four feet forward.

Some of the accusations are fruitless, personally I think she’s doing fine. How much can really be expected of a woman who almost won the candidacy so soon after she lost it? How quickly can her supporters turn around and put all their hope behind another candidate, one Clinton attacked so much just months ago? She’s done a lot, and she continues to do more. She has a strong voice and it will, tonight, prove to be game changing.

But that’s beside the point. Tonight will be Clinton’s time to shine, to prove to America that a vote for Obama is not just a vote for him, but a vote for her, for the party as a whole, a vote against the republicans and against John McCain. For she will, no doubt, have a place in Obama’s potential administration.

She isn’t headlining, but here’s hoping her words make headlines.

Tharin Gartrell, 28, was arrested early Monday morning after an Aurora, Colo., officer pulled him over for reckless driving. What the officer didn’t know was, by making this routine stop, he may have saved Senator Barack Obama’s life.

Two rifles, a high-powered scope and a score of methamphetamine were all found in Gartrell’s rented car.

The traffic stop ignited a chain of arrests–two more men and one woman — all believed to be planning an attempt on Obama’s life during his acceptance speech this Thursday night. One of the men — not Gartrell — is said to be a white supremacist.

Inside Gartrell’s car, officers, in addition to the weapons, scope and methamphetamine, found a bulletproof vest, camouflage clothing, walkie-talkies and several licenses with different names on each.

The series of arrests took place about 11 miles from the Pepsi Center, the site of the Democratic National Convention.

According to the Denver TV station CBS4, when one of the suspects was asked whether he had come to Denver to assassinate the presidential candidate, “he responded in the affirmative.”

CBS4 also reported that one of the suspects told authorities he planned to, “shoot Obama from a high vantage point using a … rifle sighted at 750 yards.”

Some police sources are saying the case concerns drugs more than a possible plot against Obama’s life, which does contradict what media reports the suspects told authorities. Regardless, the FBI is currently investigating the event.

Colorado U.S. Attorney Troy Eid told media he is “confident” there is no threat to Obama’s safety during the convention.

After headlining a concert on the first night of the Democratic National Convention, Fall Out Boy announced they would release their enw album, Folie A Deux, on November 4, Election Day.

Fall Out Boy’s ‘Beat It’ nominated for Best Rock Video at 25th annual MTV VMAs

The first single will be the track “I Don’t Care.” Radio dates to be announced shortly.

“For Folie A Deux, Fall Out Boy spearheaded a politically charged group that unveiled cryptic ‘big brother’ type messages in order to support and ignite a democratic process,” Island Def Jam Music Group said in a statement Tuesday. “Impressively, the creative album roll-out garnered over 1 million impressions in just one week online across literally hundreds of websites such as absolutepunk.net, friendsorenemies.com, Live journal communities and many other popular music websites, including the band’s own site, www.falloutboyrock.com.”

“This roll-out was started to engage people and let them tell their own stories. We came up with the beginning and the end, while the rest happened organically,” said bass player Pete Wentz.

Fall Out Boy’s cover of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” has been nominated for Best Rock Video at this year’s 25th annual MTV Video Music Awards. The worldwide cablecast takes place live from Paramount Studios in Hollywood, September 7 at 9 p.m.

Michelle Obama has been described by many as a “firecracker.” Now when I hear that, I think of Teresa Heinz Kerry. A strong woman who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, people act like that’s such a bad thing. To me? It’s inspiring.

She has a strong and respectable background, coming from a family with parents who wanted more for her and her brother, parents who worked hard for what they had and knew that they wanted more than that for their children. Michelle Obama has dedicated herself to her work, her community and her family. She is, what I would call, a very respectable woman.

Her speech was full of heartfelt anecdotes about her older brother and her late father as well as why she believed her husband was the best for the job of President of the United States. A speech that was unexpectedly emotional, moved many of the delegates on the floor of the convention hall to tears.

The most inspiring aspect of Michelle Obama is how well she believes in her husband. From the beginning she hadn’t been a big campaigner, however as the primaries progressed she spoke out in favor of her husband, and in favor of what she believed in – her husband leading America in a better direction and to a better future.

Senator Edward Kennedy pledged, in a captivating speech earlier tonight, that he would see Barack Obama in the White House, as well as himself back in the Senate.

The ailing senator has endorsed Obama for many months, before he won the democratic nomination. He campaigned with Obama for a while before suffering a seizure that led to the discovery of his brain cancer.

Kennedy’s promise is a bold one, but the optimism is no doubt necessary for all democrats; the road to the White House will now be even harder for Obama, but it is certainly doable.

As for his promise to return to the Senate, those on all parts of the political spectrum will surely support him in both his political and personal recovery.

UPDATE-LIVE:

Michelle Obama gives insight on her own life, speaking of the trials and tribulations of growing up and honoring the triumphs and sacrifices of her parents, ones made to help put her and her brother through college. She connects that with Mr. Obama’s upbringing, citing both of their beliefs in honesty and hard work.

She quotes something Mr. Obama said to her earlier on, of the difference between “the world as it is, and the world as it should be.” He said, “all too often we accept the difference between the two and we accept the world as it is…we have an obligation to fight for the world as it should be.”

Mrs. Obama talks about servicemen and women, and cites Senator Hillary Clinton as putting “those 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling” to help young female–and male–Americans succeed. She cites Senator Joe Biden as someone who never stops fighting for those who need help. Joe Biden rises in standing ovation for a comment about Mr. Obama.

Mrs. Obama highlights Mr. Obama’s beliefs, in ending the war in Iraq, on health care and the economy. She tells of how much he cares about the middle-class, seemingly trying to reinforce what their camp has been trying to tell the public, that he is not out of touch with mainstream America.

“The Barack Obama of today is the same man I fell in love with years ago.” She adds a story of how Mr. Obama brought her and their child, Malia, home from the hospital 10 years prior. Mrs. Obama is doing a wonderful job of infusing emotion and personal family affairs with politics, showing that their family is like any other. They are an ordinary American family with strong family values and great dreams for the country they love. No disconnect from middle-class America here.

Biden’s smiling. Great job by Mrs. Obama.

The Obama children make an appearance on stage with their mother, waving along toward the audience.

Mr. Obama appears on screen, his daughter, Sasha, yells out, “Hi daddy!” several times.

Mr. Obama has never looked more like a president than he does right now. I don’t know why, but it’s true. He’s connecting with his daughters on a personal level on international television.

Mr. Obama tells the audience he’s in St.Louis, his daughter, Sasha, then screams out, “Where are you daddy?” He corrects himself and says Kansas City. His daughters both scream, “I love you daddy!” as he leaves. What a lovable family.

That’s it from the Obama’s for tonight.
