Partake in Lord of the Rings Online’s 5th anniversary contest, in-game festivities

Five years ago today, The Lord of the Rings Online was first released. Turbine is now celebrating the game’s anniversary with a bevy of in-game festivities and a contest for the biggest LOTRO fan.

The game’s fifth year anniversary festival kicked off on April 16 and will run until April 30 letting players partake in the festivities and receive gifts depending on their subscription type. All players will receive unique fireworks and an anniversary cloak, and premium and VIP players will receive gifts for each year their account has been active. These gifts range from character portraits, speed boosts, and even a brand new Festival Azure Steed. Additionally, the in-game festival will include brand new quests, a double XP weekend, and much better loot drops.

Fans who really want to show their love for five years of LOTRO can also enter Turbine’s contest that asks “Who is the Biggest LOTRO Fan?” Participants can make their own video showing their dedication to the game by reenacting their favorite quest or simply telling the team why they should win. There will be a daily winner who will receive 500 Turbine points. At the end of the contest on May 4, the grand prize winner will win a trip to Turbine Studios in Boston.

2K Sports renews million dollar pitch contest

Are you good at sports, but you know — not really good at sports? Could you pitch a no-no in MLB 2k11 before anyone else? Here’s hoping you can as 2K Sports has announced that they will once again offer a cool million dollars to the first gamer to pitch a no-hitter when the game launches in March.

“I don’t know if we’re smart or just insane,” said Jason Argent, the vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “The million-dollar bounty’s back. I just walked out of a meeting with our chief financial officer; budgeting for this sort of thing is a bit of a challenge when you can’t say exactly when you’re going to pay it.”

Now, before you go off and think you’re going top use your crappy little brother to scheme out a no hitter, you should know that there’s a pretty steep list of qualifiers here. The feat will have to be accomplished in the game’s MLB Today mode, which matches the on-field lineup for each of that day’s games of the actual MLB schedule. Record a no hitter, and you’re a million dollars richer (if you follow some legal mumbo jumbo that can be found on the company’s website).

If this year’s contest is anything like last year’s, you’re going to need to get an early start — the prize was awarded on the day of the game’s release.

Crowley has murdered Marybeth’s family and other fellow vacationers who had come together on a tourist excursion in the swamplands outside of New Orleans.

Marybeth escapes from Crowley and manages to make it back to civilization, where she once again encounters voodoo shop proprietor Reverend Zombie (Tony Todd), who had helped to arrange Marybeth and company’s earlier, ill-fated tour of the area. To help Marybeth and also serve his own secret agenda, Reverend Zombie recruits a hardened pack of hunters to head back into the swamp to seek revenge on Victor Crowley.

ZVOX hosts Ugly TV Contest

ZVOX, the Swampscott company behind some truly amazing single-cabinet home theater speaker systems, had announced an “Ugly TV Contest,” where consumers can show off that fire hazard maze of wires behind their television for a chance to win a ZVOX Z-Base 550 soundbar.

"TV wire hairballs are a growing problem in our society" said ZVOX founder Tom Hannaher. "It started out 30 years ago with a simple VCR hookup, but now there are cable boxes, Xboxes, Blu-Ray players and multi-speaker surround sound systems. It’s a real mess. I’m suspicious that wires mate and produce offspring back there!"

The ZVOX Ugly TV Contest is designed to draw attention to this pernicious malady before family pets or young children are lost in the copper jungle that exists behind most modern TVs. “I have four children including a seven-month-old boy who’s just learning to crawl,” exclaims Kate Connors, Internet Marketing Manager at ZVOX. ‘”He could get lost in the wire jungle.”

Entry photographs should be emailed to info@zvoxaudio.com, with “Ugly TV Contest” as the subject line of the email. Entries must be received no later than April 30.

Get your cameras out for Never Shout Never! tickets

What is love? First of all, it’s the name of the newest Never Shout Never! album, but we want to know what you think. Blast has teamed up with Warner Brothers Records and has two tickets to see Never Shout Never! headline the Alternative Press Tour at the Boston House of Blues on April 29th, a meet and greet with the band, as well as a photo pass and title of “Official AP Tour Photographer” for the person who best shows what love is.

Here’s what you do: comment this post with a picture you take or draw (free hand or digitally) between now and April 20th. A representative from Blast and Warner Brothers will judge the picture and the winner will be announced on April 23rd.

The winner will then be contacted so they can get their tickets, meet and greet info (for the winner, and a plus one!) and their photo pass (only for the winner).

We particularly like this one because it has Sasha Grey who sat down with Blast’s Erica Marcus for an interview when she started in the mainstream “Girlfriend Experience.”

Third, “Not Married with Children XXX.” This one is pretty much as you’d expect it to be.

The fourth one is a bit of a twist. It’s called “You’re Nalin’ Palin Interactive.” It’s one of several Sarah Palin porn parodies. This one also brings in a parody of Carrie Prejean in a way that she would almost certainly not morally approve of.

You get the movie, some posters, and — get this — a Sarah Palin mask.

EA and BioWare announce 24-hour gaming event

BioWare and Electronic Arts are really doing all they can to promote the upcoming epic role-playing-game “Dragon Age Origins.”

First the team revealed that the PS3 version of the title will release alongside its Xbox 360 and PC counterparts Nov. 3, and now this.

To celebrate the launch of the long-awaited title, BioWare threw together 10 teams of four players each, from across the globe, and on Oct. 28, the groups will set out on the “Dragon Age: Origins Wardens’ Quest” in hopes of taking home the top prize; $12,500 for each member!

“We’re extremely excited about the Dragon Age: Origins Wardens’ Quest “" it’s going to be an awesome chance for gamers to band together to prove they’re the best at navigating the world of Dragon Age” said Mark Darrah, Executive Producer, Dragon Age: Origins. “In the game, putting together a strong team is essential to success – In the same way the overall strength of the competing teams will decide who walks away with the money.”

The ten teams, hailing the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands and Belgium, Spain, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and a “specially selected team comprised of the most loyal BioWare fans from around the world,” will duke it in London, England Oct. 28 in a grand hall with what BioWare is calling a “grandiose setting” to play the game.

No mention was made in the press release of just what the quest entails, and subsequently how the teams will be judged, only that “screens will be used to display leader board stats and show highlights” But when information becomes available, BioWare promises it’ll be posted at the official contest page.

Rockstar Games is announcing the Beaterator Band Challenge, a competition that offers millions of artists and bands on Myspace the chance to win $5,000 (!) by creating a track using the song crafting tools provided in Beaterator. Live by the Creed Challenge

Alright, so here’s a pet project for anyone who is a die hard Assassin’s Creed fan and has access to a camera.

Ubisoft and the Independent Film Channel (IFC) launched the “Live By The Creed Challenge.” The contest is simple. Come up with a story with three of the themes listed below, film the story and send it in. If your entry has been forged in the fires of Epic Win, then you will receive great rewards! Now the themes needed are as follows:

- Assassination, Revenge, Hidden Blade, Hidden Weapon, Italy (or Italian Renaissance), Unique Gadgets/Tools, Family, Conspiracy.

This gives you a lot of leeway with content. You could go for a full on action movie focused on Assassination, Revenge and Unique Gadgets or you could go the dramatic route by doing a dramatic examination of Family and Conspiracy during the Italian Renaissance. Hopefully, you’ll choose the action movie.

Let the second mission begin! Today’s mission is not as easy as yesterdays, but to compensate they are giving away 51 prizes! The Need for Speed M3 Missions Sweepstakes has begun. The first mission is pretty simple. Head over to NeedForSpeed’s Twitter and make sure you’re following them. Deadline for Indie Game Challenge extended!

Alot of kids grow up and want to develop videogames for a living. Understandable, but not easy. However, today I bring you motivation for anyone who has the skills but just needed an extra push. The Indie Game Challenge, which kicked off on July 15, has extended their deadline to October 10. Professional and non-professional video game developers can win almost $300,00 in prizes. The extension grants current participants time to refine their betas and pitch videos in order to create the best entries possible. Judging will commence after October 31. Up to 12 finalists will be announced on or around Jan 15 and up to five members of each finalist team will be flown to an awards reception Feb 19 at the Red Rock Casino Resort Spa in Las Vegas. So anyone who can compete, should! Comment below with your thoughts and opinions!

Ok people listen up. E3 was a blast this year. We all know that. While the crowd was huge, and a lot larger than last year, we know that you were all sitting at home reading the stuff that the Blast Games team was firing up like so many chaingun rounds.

We’re cleaning up the Blast Newroom over the next few weeks, and right away we found a few things (like porn).

We have official E3 t-shirts for Wet, Rogue Warrior, and Red Steel 2. Do you want them?

Well we’re gonna make you work for’em.

You need to review something. A video game released in the past two months that we somehow haven’t reviewed yet. A rare peripheral. A brand new PC game would be great. The Sennheiser Sound Tour

Part dream-job, part reality show competition, and part marketing gimmick, headphone and sound equipment manufacturer Sennheiser is putting together a new summer program called The Sennheiser Sound Tour.

Teams, divided by gender for maximum entertainment value, will travel across the US and Canada promoting Sennheiser’s products in a competition to quote, “put headphones on as many people as possible connecting them to the true sound of Sennheiser.”

Yeah, I don’t know what that means either, but it still sounds like fun. The benefits include getting paid to travel across thirty cities for ten weeks this summer while becoming a Youtube and Internet sensation. How you ask? Sennheiser will record these charades and edit them into weekly webcasts and upload them to their Youtube channel (www.youtube.com/sennheisersoundtour) for all to see.

To get in on the action you need to whip out your best reality show personality-I suggest reviewing a few seasons of the Real World as well as a heavy dose of Battlestar Galactica to drum up your nerd quotient-and make a video explaining why you’re the best candidate for the job. Submit your job resume to Sennheiser@thejetstargroup.com, include the location of your video, and finally, cross your fingers. Hurry: submissions are due by May 1.
