Dropkick Murphys fans have an opportunity to win a trip to Boston to watch the band’s exclusive performance at Paradise Rock Club on November 17.

George Killan’s Irish Red, a ruby ale, is allowing those 21 years old and over to enter its Irish Red Ruckus sweepstakes.  Ten winners will receive two VIP tickets to the concert, airfare, hotel accomodations and spending money.

Killan’s is also holding a competition to find opening acts for the concert. Four finalists will be selected and a winner will be announced on October 12.

Dropkick Murphys is a classic, punk rock band that recently released their second album, “Going Out in Style.”  The album features collaborations with  Bruce Springsteen, Fat Mike of NOFX and Chris Cheney of The Living End.

As was the worst-kept secret in Boston last week, Bruce Springsteen joined the Dropkick Murphys onstage at the House of Blues in Boston to perform “Peg O’ My Heart,” “Badlands,” and “I’m Shipping Up to Boston.”

The boss also appears in the band’s latest album “Going Out In Style” as a guest performer for “Peg O’ My Heart,” which Blast reviewed, of course.

Will the Dropkick Murphys bring out The Boss tonight at House of Blues?

Several media outlets, including the Boston Herald, are shouting that Bruce Springsteen will appear on stage with the Irish rockers at House of Blues Boston.

Lansdowne Street is expected to be insane. The show has been sold out for weeks and even the HoB guest list is packed.

Both the pop-infused Kiss 108 Matty in the Morning show and the indie rock WFNX morning show were buzzing with the news

The Murphys met Springsteen five years ago, when he made another surprise appearance in a New York show. He appears on the band’s latest album.

Jimmy Fallon performed Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” with the guest Bruce Springsteen on the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” Tuesday night.

Jimmy dressed up as Neil Young, and The Boss chimes in about halfway through. It was a fantastic ballad rendition of the song!

Springsteen did his best Springsteen impression and joined in with a fake beard.

The song was originally released by Will Smith’s daughter Willow last month and has become a sensation because she is only 9 years old.

The spoof was part of a special edition of “Late Night,” when Springsteen was the only guest for the hour, as he promoted his new box set.

The Boss also did an amazing rendition of “Because the Night.”

On their third album, "American Slang," bluesy punk outfit The Gaslight Anthem are still trying their damnedest to pry off Bruce Springsteen’s King of the Working Class crown. The Boss himself is a fan of the group, having invited them to share the stage with him on more than one occasion.

Though the band members — singer/guitarist Brian Fallon, guitarist Alex Rosamilia, bassist Alex Levine, and drummer Benny Horowitz — all hail from New Jersey, Fallon recently relocated to decidedly less blue collar Brooklyn. He’s apparently not worried about the move damaging his Jersey cred; about half the songs reference New York City by name.

"American Slang," out June 15, is a perfectly decent album, though it does lose a bit of steam in the second half and falls short of the band’s previous offering, 2008′s "The ’59 Sound." The songs are catchy, nostalgic hybrids of punk rock and Americana, and as musicians, the band members have clearly matured since their last record, employing more sophisticated guitar riffs and song structures here. The title track and first single is the record’s finest, but other standout tracks include the raucous anthem "Stay Lucky" and slow-burning, moving album closer "We Did It When We Were Young."

But while Fallon delivers all his lines with what seems to be genuine earnestness, there’s a nagging feeling that his approach to songwriting is less personal in nature and more WWSD? (What Would Springsteen Do?). The characters in songs like "The Queen of Lower Chelsea" feel at best forgettable and at worst clich©.

Fallon also continues his sycophantic habit of dropping blatant allusions to his musical idols ("Mama never told me there’d be days like these"), a trait I suppose could be seen as either grating or endearing. Personally, I tend toward the former and would appreciate a little more subtlety.

They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery, but in The Gaslight Anthem’s case, a little inspired originality might not hurt, either.

Gaslight Anthem plays New York June 15 at Irving Plaza with Tim Barry and Rival Schools and Boston August 2 at House of Blues.

The compilation album featuring musical performances from last Friday’s Hope For Haiti Now telethon debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. The album sold 171,000 units and currently sits atop the iTunes top albums charts as well. "Hope For Haiti Now" also holds the honor of being the first digitally-exclusive album to be top of the charts. The charity album (artists donate their share in the proceeds to relief organizations) features twenty songs by artists such as Sting, Jennifer Hudson, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and Beyonce. Three of these singles have already cracked the iTunes top twenty, "Hallelujah" by Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris (2), "Lean On Me" by Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, and Keith Urban (12), and "Breathless" by Taylor Swift (19).

"Hope For Haiti Now" racked up these impressive sales numbers after only being available for pre-order beginning last Thursday and furthermore was the "biggest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history" according to MTV.com. The album proceeds benefit the following organizations: Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF, United Nations World Food Programme, Yele Haiti Foundation, and the Clinton Bush Haiti Foundation.

A report from the Las Vegas Review Journal had left rumors swirling that a Bruce Springsteen concert would be following Senator Obama’s acceptance speech on Thursday evening. Leaving Republicans already critical of his ‘celebrity’ eager for the opportunity to accuse Obama of being out of touch with the average American. Unfortunately, for those thousands who will be lining up to make their way to Invesco Field thursday night the Washington Post is now reporting that the Boss won’t be performing.

While Senator Obama had received a number of celebrity endorsements from stars such a Oprah Winfrey early in his campaign, it appears that in Denver he is making an effort to downplay ties to Hollywood.  Perhaps as a response to the series of McCain campaign spots accusing him of being the, “biggest celebrity in the world.”
