During his appearance, he mentioned the production of a third film, saying “I personally want to do it. I hope we’re going to start shooting in September. I know Todd Phillips is working on the script.”

Apparently, the next addition won’t follow the same pattern the first two did. Cooper said “We adhered to the formula in the second one, for those of you who’ve seen it, and the third one, which would close the whole sort of trilogy, which now it would be a trilogy — even though we thought we would never make a second one, let alone anybody see the first one — I think it will take place in Los Angeles and maybe not adhere to the structure. It might be different”.

The second Hangover film earned $581 million worldwide, ranking as the highest-grossing comedy of all time.

Pressman, original producer of “The Crow.’’

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”) will direct the new film, which will feature the main character Eric Draven returning to get revenge for his wife’s murder; Bradley Cooper (“Limitless”) will play the role of Draven.

Relativity Media and Edward R. Pressman Film Corporation will partner with Spain-based Apaches Entertainment to produce the film.

1.5 out of 4 stars

The second you watch a trailer for “Limitless,” the new vehicle for rising star Bradley Cooper, you should have the entire movie planned in your head: Man is out of work loser who loses girlfriend/job/apartment. Through drugs/magic/trickery man becomes successful. Man engages in 5-10 minute montage showing him with fast cars, fast women, fabulous houses, and other aspects of a pretty, but empty lifestyle. Then, in the following “be careful what you wish for” scenario, there are two possible outcomes: either man somehow loses everything, learns valuable lesson, gets girl and goes on to live sensible middle-class life, or man does not learn lesson and ends the movie a defeated, broken man. Fin.

There’s nothing wrong with this formula. Technically, “Citizen Kane” is modeled on this blueprint, as is “Big” and “Goodfellas.” It’s what you put in between the lines that count.

Let me be clear. “Limitless” is not “Citizen Kane.”

Directed by: Neil Burger
Written by: Leslie Dixon
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Abbie Cornish
Rated: PG-13

Between the lines of a perfectly serviceable plot construct, director Neil Burger obviously didn’t know if he wanted a slick, polished thriller or a gritty B-movie aesthetic. So he decided to go with the mediocre version of both. Like a thriller it’s glossy and over-polished, but without the writing to back it up. Like a B-movie, it’s amoral, plot hole-ridden and ridiculous, but without any of the fun to make it enjoyable. The result is cold, cynical and unpleasant.

It’s fairly unclear what we’re supposed to think about Bradley Cooper’s character, an out-of-work writer named Eddie who discovers a drug that allows him to access every part of his brain. There’s something about Cooper I’ve always found a little unlikeable- like a friend’s ex-boyfriend who gets to keep hanging around because he’s so damn charming. Cooper’s not a bad actor (his comic timing for some of his lines in “Limitless” is spot-on), but his character is so poorly drawn-out all we see is the fact that he’s a lazy jerk who (spoiler alert) may or may not have committed murder during a blackout induced by his genius drug.

And the voiceover, my God, the voiceover. Every other movement Bradley Cooper makes is punctuated with grating commentary making sure you know what movement he’s making and why. “Limitless” doesn’t trust the audience to understand anything. Whole characters are explained the second they appear on screen. Many critics hold that any voiceover at all is lazy storytelling, which I find a little harsh. But this isn’t just lazy- it’s willfully trying to bypass the basic way you explain something on camera.

Cooper is joined by the stellar Abbie Cornish, who makes as much as she can out of a small role as Eddie’s girlfriend. A scene where she’s being chased through Central Park is both a badass action sequence and really frightening to watch. Robert De Niro also squints his way through a role as a Warren Buffett-type financier; he’s 100 percent phoning it in, but he looks like he’s having a good time.

The music and sound is without a doubt the best part of “Limitless”, often lifting the mediocre action on screen. Watching new and improved Eddie strut down the streets of New York is boring- watching new and improved Eddie strut down the streets of New York to the Black Keys’ “Howlin’ for You” is also pretty boring, but at least you’re listening to a good song. And the sound editing during Eddie’s genius trips makes the world around him seem impenetrable and fragile all at once.

Maybe I’m frustrated because January through March is considered the doldrums of Hollywood film releases (this is the time when producers clear off their shelves of anything that’s not an Oscar movie or a summer blockbuster). Maybe I’ve just seen a lot of crap lately and “Limitless” was the straw that broke the camel’s back. But this movie shouldn’t have been hard to make. The plot is right there to capture. The actors are competent and good-looking and the money’s in the bank. But do yourself a favor and just watch the trailer. It’s more satisfying than the movie itself could ever be.

Depp last won the honor in 2003, and this year, he joins the likes of Brad Pitt and George Clooney in winning twice. After Depp, the rest of the top five are Ryan Reynolds at number two, Jake Gyllanhaal at number three, Bradley Cooper at number four, and Robert Downey Jr. at number five.

Rabid Twilight fans might be disappointed to know that Robert Pattinson ranked 15th, but the rest of us will wonder how he ranked so high.

There’s yet another superhero movie coming out soon called The Green Lantern (as if anyone’s ever heard of that, but Superman and Spiderman are way done, and there are only so many excuses producers can use to make a movie with a hunk in a spandex suit.)

But the movie itself isn’t the center of the gossip – it’s who will play the main character, hot-shot pilot Hal Jordan? ‚ So far, according to Laineygossip.com, the major contenders are as follows: ‚ Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake, and Henry Cavill.

Ryan Reynolds apparently doesn’t belong on this list because he’s scheduled to star in Deadpool, but maybe he’d back out for a bigger offer? ‚ There’s no doubt he looks the part (all of these guys do) but his dramatic acting skills have yet to be truly tested.

Bradley Cooper – well, he’s really good at playing an arrogant douche bag, so I guess that fits.

Justin Timberlake – Has anyone seen Austin Powers? ‚ Is it not obvious to everyone that this kid cannot act?? ‚ Sure, he can pull off an SNL skit, but that doesn’t mean you throw him up on the big screen for a summer blockbuster!

Henry Cavill – if you guys don’t know who this is, he’s the tall, dark and British hunk on the TV show The Tudors. ‚ He was also the first choice of Stephenie Meyer to play her brooding vamp, Edward Cullen, but was passed over because he was too old.

Which brings me to my next point: ‚ Don’t these guys all seem just a tad….OLD??? ‚ I mean, all of these guys are hovering by their thirties, and if I am asking for a hero, he’s gotta be at least 25 or younger. ‚ Anyone heard of Shia LeBeouf? ‚ Emile Hirsch? ‚ Hayden Christensen?

Who do you think deserves to star in The Green Lantern?

UPDATE:

The decision may have been made! ‚ In a recent Tweet, Jon Favreau, director of Iron Man 2 (now filming) which stars Scarlett Johansson, revealed that “Green Lantern visited the set.” ‚ And who else might visit the set where Scarlett is working than her brand new husband and Green Lantern contender, Ryan Reynolds?

What do you think – is Favreau trying to get us all riled up, or could he really be spilling the beans?

Without a doubt, go see "The Hangover." In a summer of blockbuster comedies, "The Hangover" is shaping up to be the best one out. If you have been itching for a sequel to "Old School" — or just itching for something that will make your sides hurt from laughing too hard — go see this movie.

3 out of 4 stars

While everyone’s focus on Warner Bros. summer releases was settled on “Terminator Salvation” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” they were busy sneaking in a summer comedy of epic proportions. Starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, “The Hangover” follows three groomsmen who lose the groom in Vegas the night of his bachelor party and have to find him by figuring out what exactly happened the night before in order to get him back in time for his wedding. But instead of leaving the hilarity at that, director Todd Phillips (“Old School”) included a tiger, Heather Graham as a hooker and Mike Tyson.

The true gem of the film is stand up comedian Zach Galifianakis. Best known for “Live at the Purple Onion” and his Absolut Vodka shorts on the “Tim and Eric Awesome Show,” Galifianakis stole every scene he was in, whether it was wearing the most un-Vegas outfit available or carrying a baby around on his chest. Galifianakis’ pitch-perfect comedic timing took the film to a new level of hilarity that it couldn’t have reached before.

Directed by: Todd Phillips
Written by: Jon Lucas and Scott Moore
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis
Running time: 100 minutes
Rating: R
Seen at: Boston Common Loews

But it is the chemistry between Cooper, Helms and Galifianakis that truly makes the film more than just a “bros have a crazy night in Vegas” comedy. For three actors from completely different ends of the comedy spectrum “" Cooper from “Yes Man,” Helms from “The Office” and Galifianakis from his stand up “" they work perfectly well together in their roles. There are poignant moments between the three leads as the film progresses that show, not just tell, that a bond has developed between the three men, especially between Cooper and Helms with Galifianakis. Galifianakis’ character of Alan “" the soon-to-be brother-in-law of groom Doug (Justin Bartha) “" was the awkward member of the group from the beginning who clearly didn’t belong, and whom Doug’s best friends Phil and Stu (Cooper and Helms) weren’t especially big fans of coming on their Vegas adventure. But by the end of the film, a real friendship develops in a subtle way that is rare to see on the big screen.

From the creators of “Old School,” this film has been pegged as a follow-up to the 2003 Will Ferrell classic. “The Hangover” is not only a follow-up “" it’s better. Taking the hilarious adventures to an entirely new level (you thought you knew the tiger would be hilarious from the trailers, but just wait), the film still manages to feel relate-able at its core. A story of three people becoming friends, of learning to stand up for what’s best for your happiness and of the true measure of responsibility is something all viewers can relate to.

While Phil, Stu and Alan’s adventures trying to find the missing Doug take up the bulk of the film’s 100 minutes of running time, an extra 20 to 30 minutes of added hilarity would have been for the film’s benefit. Advertisements for “The Hangover” made it clear that Phil, Stu and Alan did insane, ridiculous things while they were drunk, but by the time the ending credits started rolling, there was a sense of “that’s it?” To be clear, insane, ridiculous things did happen, but the film left telling the specifics of what exactly happened the night before (if you can write a timeline of exactly what happened, when, during that night after the first viewing, get back to me) to telling of the male bonding experience that occurred.

Without a doubt, go see “The Hangover.” In a summer of blockbuster comedies, “The Hangover” is shaping up to be the best one out there. If you have been itching for a sequel to “Old School” “" or just itching for something that will make your sides hurt from laughing too hard “" go see this movie.
