In the midst of her split from husband Ashton Kutcher, actress Demi Moore was rushed to the hospital on Monday for a substance abuse related issue, according to TMZ.

Law enforcement officials told the website that paramedics took Demi to the hospital after a 911 call placed at 10:45 p.m.

The actress will now attend rehab for what her rep says is “exhaustion and to improve her overall health. TMZ, however, reports that the rehab is for substance abuse issues.

Not worst holiday movie, worst MOVIE

0 out of 4 stars *that’s a zero, kids

It is interesting to note that the best part of “New Year’s Eve,” the Garry Marshall holiday clusterfuck of stardom, is the outtakes during the end credits. In them we see everyone from Halle Barry, to Jon Bon Jovi, to Seth Myers giggling through dialogue, tripping, and joking around with their cast mates. It’s thoroughly charming.

The actual movie could have taken a lesson.

Directed by: Garry Marshall
Written by: Katherine Fugate
Starring: About a million people.
Rated: PG-13

Is anyone actually surprised that this movie is terrible? Even the trailer is so tone-deaf, so embarrassingly shallow, completely soaked in cynical Hollywood money, it would have been a miracle if the movie itself had been halfway decent. Surely even America, with its love of shiny white men and blonde Botox monsters, will see through this charade! Even we are not so dumb that we can be hoodwinked by a bunch of producers who took a lame, gin-sodden sketch of an idea, injected 45 stars at various stages of their career into the frame like steroids with private islands, and called it a movie! For the scales have fallen from our eyes! It’s our Arab Spring! Occupy everything! Viva la revolution!

But no. Many, many people will see this tribute to the dubious cultural touchstone of New Year’s Eve in New York City- just like many, many people will spend all day in the cold in Times Square on December 31st, waiting in line for the port-a-john and drinking surreptitiously from flasks before watching a giant ball of LED lights drop 100 feet.

I hate to sound so bitter. But this movie really got under my skin, so much so that I don’t even want to go over the various intersecting plot lines and vignettes that fills the two-hour run time. Suffice it to say there are a lot of scenes that look like they were “Love Actually” subplots cut during the editing process, then swept up from the cutting room floor by Marshall and writer Katherine Fugate and reconstituted into some sort of narrative. The characters seem to be pulled from randomly from a hat, so Zac Efron is somehow the younger brother of Sarah Jessica Parker, Bon Jovi managed to bag Katherine Heigl despite being 16 years older than her, and Robert De Niro appears to be dying of the disease that only tragic Victorian heroines get after staying out all night in the rain. There’s also no time to actually get to know any of these people (the only character I can actually name is Bon Jovi, who has the weird and hilarious rock moniker of “Jensen”). But no time for characterization is actually a good thing, since it means that none of them have to display anything resembling a personality trait.

Michelle Pfeiffer comes close to actually acting, playing a downtrodden music industry paean who quits her job and asks Efron to help her complete her New Year’s resolutions from the prior year. Through the muck of the terrible dialogue there is a pulse of chemistry between Pfeiffer and Efron. Somehow I feel this would have been a much more interesting movie if it was just about them in a hotter “Harold and Maude” scenario.

The movie isn’t funny, it isn’t particularly sweet, and, like its predecessor “Valentine’s Day”, it spends most of its time trying to convince us that New Year’s Eve is a super-duper important holiday that has all sorts of meaning and significance! Like love and…family…and…whatever, everyone shut up and dance to “Firework!”

Halfway through listing all of the reasons I hated “New Year’s Eve”, it occurred to me that this is hardly the only piece of Hollywood garbage lobbed at the American public this year. Hell, it’s not the only one lobbed this week. So why do I hate it more than anything else I’ve seen this year? Why do I hate it more than “Transformers 3,” or “Gnomeo and Juliet”, and in such a visceral, gut wrenching, violent way? Perhaps because “New Year’s Eve” doesn’t even try to trick you into thinking it’s a film with any merit. It doesn’t have any sense of narrative, or artistry or fun. It doesn’t try to entertain you, or give you something to think about. It doesn’t even really have any characters.

Because the truth is “New Year’s Eve” isn’t a film at all. It’s an ATM.

Despite multiple rumors being thrown around about Ashton Kutcher being unfaithful to Demi Moore, no divorce has been filed.

CBS news reports that Star Magazine got a “source close to the pair” to admit that Moore and Kutcher have separated and divorce is coming because of Kutcher’s “serial cheating.” The Daily Mail has pictures of Kutcher and a woman who claims she and the actor had a fling last weekend.

Subsequently, last weekend was the couple’s sixth wedding anniversary and they spent it apart.

Kutcher and Moore have neither confirmed nor denied the rumors, except for some cryptic messages on Twitter.

On Thursday morning, Kutcher posted a link to the Public Enemy song “Don’t Believe the Hype,” and on September 23, Moore quoted the Greek Philosopher Epictetus and said, “When we are offended at any man’s fault, turn to yourself and study your own failings. Then you will forget your anger.”

Ashton Kutcher has a broken heart and a hot bod

By now, everyone knows that Ashton Kutcher will be replacing Charlie Sheen when the most popular sitcom on television, Two and a Half Men, returns this fall. But until now, CBS had been tight-lipped about Kutcher’s character.

On Wednesday, Entertainment President Nina Tassler finally opened up about the series revamp while on a press tour in Beverly Hills. Kutcher will be introduced over the course of the two part season premiere. He will play Walden Schmidt, a billionaire with a broken heart. Aww, poor Ashton!

Wait: A rich, single guy taken in by Duckie and the kid who got uglier as he got older? Perhaps it won’t be much of a revamp after all. Not to alienate any readers out there, but it’s not like the show could get any worse. Even if the biggest difference is a smokin’ hot lead actor instead of a wrinkly, pathetic old man with no comedic talent whatsoever, it’s a step up.

Said Tassler, “Who could have predicted that we would be here six months ago?” Um, everyone, pointed out one reporter.

The season premiere is ready to be shot this Friday, but don’t expect to get any more hints before the show airs. Tassler would not confirm the rumor that the season begins with the funeral of Sheen’s character, Charlie Harper.

If Kutcher can’t breathe new life into the show, it too may soon be dead and buried.

Kutcher is going to replace Charlie Sheen on the hit comedy show after British actor Hugh Grant passed on the opportunity.

Kutcher said in statement Friday, “I can’t replace Charlie Sheen but I’m going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!”

Charlie Sheen tweeted to Kutcher, “#Winning Congrats to the cast and crew…CBS & WB..! My best to @aplusk !! The show must go on… You got the right guy! c”

And, Kutcher replied, “#2.5 @charliesheen Thank man. Always been a fan, always will be! BTW you were “born big””

2 out of 4 stars

“No Strings Attached” predictably argues that there are always strings

There’s no denying that Natalie Portman’s career is on the upswing, as evidenced by the deafening awards buzz accompanying her recent turn in Black Swan. I found it puzzling that she would follow up what could be her Oscar winning role with a part in Ivan Reitman’s latest romantic comedy “No Strings Attached” alongside one-trick pony Ashton Kutcher. However, as I settled into the first half hour of this absurd romp, Portman’s performance as the cynical, successful workaholic Emma surprised me. Emma seemed to be the antithesis of the romantic comedy leading lady archetype.

Emma enters into a “no strings attached” relationship with Adam (Kutcher) following a series of chance meetings. The first time was at summer camp, the second at a frat house kegger in Michigan, and the third at a market in California. While Adam struggles up the film/TV industry ladder as a production assistant, Emma has graduated from MIT and now works as a successful physician. When Adam learns that his ex-girlfriend is now in a relationship with his retired (but very successful) television actor father (Kevin Kline), he begins a relentless search for a night of casual sex and finds Emma’s phone number. The two begin their routine of sex without attachment.

Directed by: Ivan Reitman
Written by:Elizabeth Meriwether (screenplay), Michael Samonek (story), and
Elizabeth Meriwether (story)
Staring: Natalie Portman, Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Kline, Ludacris
Rated: R

I found it refreshing to see a 20-something career-minded woman calling the shots in a sexual relationship. Emma clearly did not want to settle down or exchange “I love yous” or fall into any of the traditional behavior that we’ve come to expect from her in a story of this genre. Meanwhile, Adam is the one making mix tapes, picking flowers, and wondering why Emma hasn’t called. Their banter in the first half is engaging and full of energy. But just when I thought No Strings Attached might offer something fun and against-the-grain, everything fell into its expected place.

Somewhere in the film’s second half, Emma’s view on the relationship softens, and all the fun rules (no jealousy, no commitment, no “emergency contact” listing) and the comedy that accompanied them go out the window. The film slows to a laborious pace, and the originality fades as this seemingly atypical romantic comedy falls flat and ends the same way all the others do, with Adam running after Emma as she shoves donuts into her mouth while listening to the mix tape he made for her.

Though it began as a fresh take on a genre that studios have time and again followed a formula for, “No Strings Attached” pulled apart everything it had going for it in a second half that seemed bogged down by a contrived romance between the two leads and a handful of unfunny subplots. While the message that there are always strings may be sound in real life, I had much more fun watching the two leads behaving in ways that I wouldn’t expect in a film belonging to this exhausted genre.

According to reports, Bieber is in final negotiations to host a reboot of the celeb-pranking reality show created by actor Ashton Kutcher, who will executive produce the new version.

Running from 2003-2007, the original show allowed Kutcher to set up elaborate pranks on his famous friends, such as Mandy Moore, Jessica Alba and Kanye West. Kutcher will reportedly stay on board to executive produce the show.

How would you think it will be like to see that side of the sweet 16-year-old star?

NBC's Trauma premieres tonight at 10

Not a lot of new stuff on the tube tonight, but there’s some news to discuss below.

On network TV, FOX premieres “Lie to Me’ at 9 p.m. tonight, while NBC debuts its “Trauma” at the same time. MTV premieres another reality show, “Disaster Date” at 6 p.m., and truTV has the premiere of “Operation Repo” at 10. Tonight is also the season finale of A&E’s “Hoarders,” which is also on at 10.

The Ashton Kutcher-produced series “The Beautiful Life” staring Mischa Barton appears to be an abject failure. The CW pulled the show from its fall schedule after just two episodes and ordered production on the show halted after miserable ratings.

Also getting axed is A&E’s “The Cleaner.” The Benjamin Bratt drama will not get renewed for a third season.

ABC announced that the new alien-infused drama “V” will debut November 3, with a four-episode run, followed by a major cliffhanger, followed by nine more episodes next spring.

In other ABC-related news, the always busy Jerry Bruckheimer is working on a pilot for a new series called “Hopscotch,” which Variety says promises to be a “high-concept police procedural” drama. Variety reported several networks were vying for the opportunity to land the new series, which is chock-full of “hit potential.” Chris Levinson will write the series, and Warner will producer.

The CW approved a new, untitled reality series about New York socialite Tinsley Mortimer, because they know you just can’t get enough of watching rich people spend their money. The series is approved for at least eight episodes.

NBC has an interesting-sounding project in the works. In the tentatively titled “Slacker Sons,” Variety reports that two brothers get rich by developing their own energy drink. They buy the family home and end up helping out their divorced dad who gets laid off from his corporate wageslave job.

Finally today, Vincent D’Onofrio is leaving Law & Order: Criminal Intent after eight seasons playing the quirky detective Robert Goren.

Hollywood has a new obsession men using sex for gain.

Movies about women using their bodies to further themselves is so out: now Hollywood has a new obsession men using sex for gain. We aren’t talking Rob Schneider as Deuce Bigalo, but full-on, no other place to turn, male prostitution.

HBO has its new series “Hung” (exactly what it sounds like) set to debut June 28, and now Ashton Kutcher is getting in on the male action with his new film “Spread,” which hits theaters in limited release August 14.

The Twitter king, Nikon spokesperson and Demi Moore hubby known for his comedic roles in “That ’70s Show” and “What Happens in Vegas” is switching his tune for “Spread,” where he plays a “sexual grifter” who knows what he’s got and uses it to get in with the richest ladies in Los Angeles and enjoy their luxurious lifestyle.

Check out the new “Spread” movie poster:

Things start getting good for Kutcher’s Nikki when he becomes involved with an attractive lawyer named Samantha (Anne Heche) who gives him everything he could ask for. But meeting a waitress named Heather (Margarita Levieva) who ends up being in the same business as he sends his life awry when he has to decide whether he is happy in the life he is living or would rather find something real living on his own.

A leaked trailer that can be found on YouTube gives “Spread” the feel of a cute, romantic dramedy, but it will be interesting to see how far director David Mackenzie will go with the sex aspect: will Kutcher be more like Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn’s playboy weddding crashers or a kept Los Angeles sex pet.

What do you think of this new trend in Hollywood? Are you interested in Kutcher’s new film? Tell us what you think below!

Want every game EA puts out in '09 free, and you're likeness in The Sims? Details inside.

Twitter, the wildly popular micro-blogging service is most useful for satiating that thirst for up to the minute updates from friends, family, and celebrity alike.‚ However, the service is also the turf for the current race to a million battle between media news heavyweight CNN and movie and TV star Ashton Kutcher.

Kutcher, bewildered at his massive number of followers offered a challenge to the news giant earlier this week.‚ The terms?‚ If he hits the million mark before CNN does, he’ll ding-dong-ditch ex-CNN executive Ted Turner’s house, film it, and throw it on Youtube for all to enjoy.

Where’s the video game tie-in you ask?‚ Electronic Arts recently tweeted that if Kutcher wins, the one millionth follower (apparently that can be tracked) will be awarded every last game EA puts out in ’09 (on a specified system) and have their likeness added to The Sims 3 roster.

Currently, CNN has a large edge with over 962,860 followers compared with that of the 947,074 of Kutcher.

Maybe you didn’t like The Butterfly Effect or that 70′s show, but you certainly love mass amounts of free video games and enshrinement into The Sims legacy don’t you?

Animation in HD. 86 minutes of Martin Lawrence and Ashton Kutcher. Almost a dozen special features.

Need I say more?

Follow the path of Boog and Elliot as they join forces in the wilderness, in this latest Blu-Ray release.

The disc is packed full of featurettes and bonus material. You can spin the wheel in “Wheel of Fortune Forest Edition.” There’s an original short feature, “Boog & Elliot’s Midnight Bun Run.” We also have the usual deleted scenes and commentary material. And if that’s not enough, there’s an extremely funny feature called “Inside the Animals Studio,” a scene deconstruction special, artwork/beat boards and a music video.

Open Season also stars Gary Sinise and Debra Messing and has been critically acclaimed as the latest funny animated feature that will keep the kids occupied and throw in enough jokes to hold the big kid’s interest too.
