The 11th season of American Idol premiered on Wednesday, this time from Savannah, Ga. Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson reappeared as judges.

The premiere drew in 21.6 million viewers, topping the amount of young adult viewers combined for ABC, CBS and NBC. Still, the number is lower than last year’s 26.3 million viewers.

Almost immediately, Tyler made the set uncomfortable, as he commended the 15-year-old daughter of Joe Magrane, pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, comparing her to Boston summers: “hot, humid and happening.”

Still, Ryan Seacrest referred to the premiere as “one of the best starts we’ve ever had.” A total of 42 performers received approval and moved on to Hollywood.

Next week the show will air from Pittsburgh.

Hitting the ground with solo tour and album

“I just found a piece of hair in my pizza, but I am going to pretend that it was mine because I really, REALLY love this pizza.”

You can easily notice Siobhan Magnus’s laid back personality in almost every aspect in her life, even when it comes to: pizza. Siobhan’s interview took place at a restaurant of her choice, California Pizza Kitchen. It’s not difficult to understand her love for pizza

Her best friend Brittany Whittman didn’t seem surprised at all and it was almost impossible to suppress laughter. Along with her love for pizza, Siobhan’s love for music is undying.

Words such as unique, different, or even individualistic do not come close to being able to describe the personality and style of Siobhan Magnus. From her taste in music to her choice of style, this Cape Cod finalist is quite timeless.

Trying out for American Idol was something that briefly crossed Siobhan’s mind. While at lunch when I first asked her about where the initial idea to tryout came from, best friend Whittman started laughing. “I told her not to do it,” said Whittman.

To any bystander, Whittman’s comment could be completely shocking, but looking back at our lunch date I become more shocked with the idea that Siobhan was part of American Idol in the first place. That statement isn’t meant as an insult at all. After anyone has had any interaction with Siobhan, they would have a similar reaction as well.

Quite frankly, she isn’t your typical pop star. Actually, it would be completely absurd to even put her name and pop star into the same sentence.

Pop stars adapt to new trends and do whatever is necessary to get their music out on the radio. They dress how they are told to dress, and sing what is written for them to sing. Pop stars are simply sell outs. That is why Siobhan will never fit that category.

Auto tune will never replace her soulful voice. Her music takes on the rock, blues, and soul genre. But for her, it’s a lot more. “I would describe it as storytelling music,” said Siobhan.

Musical talent is something that’s run in Siobhan’s blood. “My father is a musician. Once he found out that I was actually good at music and wanted to pursue it he sat me down and said ‘If you want this, we need to find ways to make you better,” explained Siobhan. She became involved in every musical class or group available at her high school and even performed in theater.

She spoke of eventually dipping her feet into acting. Her love for music also coincides with theater. Siobhan spoke about being exposed to theater at a young age because her older siblings were involved, and they always used her as an extra.

Siobhan was accepted at Salem State College, but eventually dropped out and starting working as an apprentice glassblower. However, one of her older brother’s knew she was meant for something much bigger. He made a deal with her.

He gave her a lock box that had a slot in it. In the box was a ticket to Nashville. “He told me that if I was able to put two hundred dollars in this box then he would give me the key to it,” said Siobhan. It didn’t take too long for her to accumulate the money.

While in Nashville is when Siobhan got the call about American Idol tryouts. “My friend and I made a deal that if they ever came to Boston we would go and try out.” The call was good timing. Her grandmother was starting to get worried about her in Nashville and constantly asked when she would be back.

“I got back the night before the audition,” said Siobhan. My initial reaction was: so wait, when did you have time to prepare?

Footage of girls explaining their preparation for their American Idol audition can be found anywhere on the internet. Some spent months taking vocal lessons others spent entire days rehearsing. It’s all very extreme.

Siobhan , let’s just say, took an entirely different approach. When I asked her about her rehearsing schedule she said, “I chose my song fifteen minutes before I was going to audition.” I think that perfectly depicts her personality.

Even though she had somewhere to be after lunch, it was never rushed. There was always something new to speak about and it was always laid back with a mixture of laughter.

She could have easily sounded annoyed when she explained her miserable car ride on her way to auditions. “More than half way there we have to turn around because I forgot everything I needed,” said Siobhan. She left all her forms of identification that she needed in order to audition.

To make matters worse, she also received a speeding ticket. While reiterating this story she laughed the entire time; not one complaint.

Her new single, Black Doll, is currently available on iTunes. “Black doll is half a homage to Edward Gorey and the other half is making that connection between myself and Gorey; talking about how everyone feels out of place sometimes, but there is nothing wrong with that. My favorite thing about the song is the allusion to things only my family will get. That line about the “purple house,” is the house I grew up in, my house is the only purple one and is kind of a landmark in my neighborhood,” said Siobhan.

Edward Gorey is one of the reasons as to why Siobhan gained more publicity. She not only shows her artistic nature through her music, but also through the tattoos that she has on her body. One night on American Idol, one of her tattoos were showing. Her tattoo is a tribute to Edward Gorey. Her manager saw this while he was in a bar and instantly tried to get in contact with her.

“His people were trying to get in touch with my people,” said Siobhan.

Since American Idol, Siobhan has been working on her debut album. She has released two singles. Siobhan has also been seen on The Ellen Degeneres Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. She was part of the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2010. She has also sang the national anthem at Fenway before a Red Sox game.

Siobhan made her solo debut at the Wilbur Theatre on Oct. 30. At her show, “Hallowe’en Dreams,” she introduced her new album, “Moon baby.”

Jennifer Lopez attends Samsung Hope for Children Gala at Cipriani Wall Street on June 7, 2011 in New York City. (WireImage)

Although no contract has been signed, this will be a big raise from the $12 million she made in her debut season earlier this year.

FOX must work around Lopez’s hectic schedule. The singer/actress will be starring in two new films: the comedy “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” with Cameron Diaz and the thriller “Parker” alongside Jason Statham.

On top of these projects, Lopez is also working with her estranged husband, singer Marc Anthony, on the talent-search show “Q’Viva!”

Despite the paycheck, Lopez is still unsure about returning to “American Idol.”

In June, she spoke with “Extra” saying, “Nobody’s made me make the decision yet, and it could, you know, kind of go either way,” adding, “I’m not saying I didn’t love it. I loved it, but you know, I only signed up for one year, so the second year, we don’t know yet.”

Candige, of Yarmouth, Maine, appeared on “American Idol” twice under the name Jessica Cunningham. She made it to the final 24 and upon her departure gave an obscene gesture to the judges.

Sunday evening a Portland police officer saw her punch her husband Craig Candige in the face several times as he was trying to walk toward the officer.

Her husband told the Portland Press Herald that he was at fault and his wife did not deserve to be charged. Jessica is scheduled to appear in court on June 30.

Do you want Jennifer Lopez to be back for season 11 of “American Idol”? She told the show’s host Ryan Seacrest on E!News, “Of course, of course. Here’s what’s the great thing about this moment for me. There’s tons of possibilities, and I’m open to whatever God has in store for me down the line. And whatever it is, I’m going to do my best.”

Also, Lopez says about how it all started, “The big major thing when Marc and I sat down and talked about it was, it would be nice to be in one place with the babies. They’ve been traveling since they were like 3 weeks old. That was a major consideration, too. So when I looked at my whole life and where I was, and the kind of freedoms that I had to choose to do what I wanted to do…I went with my gut.”

She released her latest album this year and was recently named as “Most Beautiful Woman Alive” by People. She told Seacrest, “I’m just happy in that—in my life, in my skin, in my body, in what I have to offer, and finally, it’s just comfortable with myself in the best way…And I think the babies had a lot to do with that.”

Is the show still as funny as it once was?

“Modern Family” hit a season low for a new episode Wednesday, with a 3.8 in the demo. The show had been topping the 5.0 earlier in the season — are viewers abandoning the once-mighty hit?

“Happy Ending” aired after “Family,” with two episodes; they averaged a 2.5, hardly a stunner in debut though likely to see a second season with those numbers.

At 8 pm, “The Middle” was thankful it was already renewed; “Better with You” likely rode out its last legs.

“American Idol” was typically strong, averring a 7.1 in the demo over 90 minutes. “Breaking In” didn’t really do that afterwards; it drew just a 2.8 out of “AI’s” 8.0 in the half-hour proceeding, a 65% drop. Retention doesn’t really factor grealty into renewals, but that’s still a bad sign.

“Survivor” was low at 8 pm, averaging less than a 3.0 in the demo. “Criminal Minds” was better at 9 with a 3.5; it’s spinoff “Suspect Behavior” led the 10 pm hour with a 2.5.

8 pm

American Idol (90 minutes): 7.1 demo, 22.3 million viewers

Survivor: Redemption Island: 2.9 demo, 10.7 million viewers.

Toscano was always singing ballads but this time, by singing an up-tempo tune, she sensationally showed another side of her to America.

When the result was announced, judge Jennifer Lopez looked very shocked and upset.

She commented about the elimination on “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” Friday morning and said, “Honestly I don’t know what happened. The only thing I can think was that people thought she was safe, as I did. I thought she’d be around until the top five – at least until the top two.”

She added, “I was just trying to let her know that we were pushing her every week because she was one of the safe ones. In this business there’s always doors that are slammed in your face. I’ve had tons of doors slammed in my face. I told her to stay true in her heart, to have faith and to know that if this wasn’t the path, that there was something bigger for her, and I believe that.”

In news not involving the very public breakdown of Charlie Sheen, “American Idol” is celebrating its 10th anniversary season with, you guessed it, a CD! On March 15, RCA is releasing The Hits Vol. 1, an “American Idol” anniversary album. Just when you thought that you could avoid Idol and its troupe of desperate musicians it just got a little more difficult. Winners from each of the nine seasons, including the infamous Kelly Clarkson, and even some fan favorites circa Adam Lambert of MTV make-out fame, makes appearances on the compilation. In a bid to help audiences relive the seasons with each of its winners, the compilation is listed in chronological order with the few stragglers hanging out at the bottom of the twelve-song list.

Not to knock Idol’s concept too hard — there is obvious talent being showcased. With the 10th season’s latest musical chair medley of judges, Jennifer Lopez and that Scary Guy from Aerosmith are joining the show and there will be even more pop music antics. This is the first time in Idol history that, due to the frightening fame of coiffed teenager Justin Bieber, 15-year-olds can now audition. So what does this mean for the future of American Idol? Probably a lot more of the same: doe-eyed teenage beauties singing their hearts out sans the withering glare of Simon Cowell. Best of luck to them.

And now for the track list!

1. Kelly Clarkson, Since U Been Gone
2. Ruben Studdard, Superstar
3. Clay Aiken, Invisible
4. Fantasia, When I See U
5. Carrie Underwood, Before He Cheats
6. Taylor Hicks, Takin’ It to the Streets
7. Daughtry, Home
8. Jordin Sparks (featuring Chris Brown), No Air
9. David Cook, Light On
10. Kris Allen – Live Like We’re Dying
11. Adam Lambert, Whataya Want From Me
12. Lee DeWyze, Sweet Serendipity

Network television is still in a repeat period, doing little to help the recently launched shows that were forced to air amidst reruns Wednesday night. “Mr. Sunshine” aired after a repeat of “Modern Family” and against a new “Ameircan Idol,” and drew a 1.8 in the demo. It’s like ABC wants to kill the show.

“Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” was no better; it drew a 2.2 demo after a “Criminal Minds” repeat.

“American Idol” and fox had no troubles; it drew 24 million viewers and a 8.0 in the demo for the night. To put that in perspective, NBC drew a 1.1 last night. Wonder why Fox is far and away the network winner?

“Off the Map” also aired a new episode last night. No one noticed.

Adam Lambert will perform an acoustic version of his song “Aftermath” on the “American Idol” Thursday.

The 2009 runner-up of the “Idol” tweeted, “Hey guess what?! I will be performing ‘Aftermath’ on American Idol on Thursday, March 10! Gonna take it down acoustic style.” He also stated that the remixed track will be available on his official website the same day, which is also part of an effort to raise money for The Trevor Project. The song is a perfect fit for supporting the Trevor Project’s primary objectives of protecting, informing, and supporting LGTBQ teens.

The singer will drop his up-coming CD/DVD “Glam Nation Live” on March 22. It was shot during his show in Indianapolis, Indiana at Clowes Hall on August 31, 2010.

American Idol wins. Are you surprised?

*The TV Renewal/Cancel Scorecard has been updated to reflect these ratings.

NBC ran a full slate of re-runs Thursday night, but not just any re-runs: an unprecedented six consecutive episodes of “The Office.” They averaged 3 million viewers and a 1.4 rating for the night.

ABC was also in complete re-runs, while CBS aired all repeats except a new episode of “Rules of Engagement.” Good sign, bad sign, or just episodes to burn?

Oh yeah, Fox aired “American Idol.” Given that it aired against all re-runs, it had some of its highest ratings, and the highest ratings on Fox for a Thursday since 2007.

The reason many networks air re-runs the first week of March is February sweeps is over. A sweeps month is a month of more accurate broadcast viewership counting. These numbers are used by the networks to pitch television ad rates, which are almost exclusively based on the 18-49 viewership. So in the three sweeps months (November, February, May) networks try to air exclusively new content.

*repeat

8 pm

American Idol (8-10): 8.1 demo, 24.9 million viewers

*The Big Bang Theory: 2.5 demo, 9.1 million viewers

*Wipeout: 1.4 demo, 4.7 million viewers

*The Office (8-11, 6 Episodes): 1.4 demo, 3 million viewers

8:30

Rules of Engagement: 2.4 demo, 8.3 million viewers

9 pm

*CSI: 1.8 demo, 8.3 million viewers

*Grey’s Anatomy: 1.2 demo, 3.9 million viewers

10 pm

*The Mentalist: 1.9 demo, 10.4 million viewers

*Private Practice: 1.0 demo, 3 million viewers

Charlie Sheen interview draws 9.5 million viewers

*The TV Renewal/Cancellation scorecard has been updated to reflect Tuesday’s ratings!

A special Tuesday broadcast of “American Idol” was typically formidable, with a 7.5 rating over 90 minutes. That translated into a 3.4 demo for “Raising Hope,” a series high.

After generating some hope for a third season, “V” fell back a little, drawing a 1.8 in the demo. While the show was on (the likely to be canceled side) cusp of the bubble with a 1.9 rating, this fall likely signals cancellation is in its future. “No Ordinary Family” will face a very ordinary cancellation, guaranteed.

The Charlie Sheen interview at 10 pm was a hit, drawing 9.5 million viewers and a 3.2 demo; despite the competition, “The Good Wife” bounced back from last week to a 2.2 in the demo.

On CBS, “NCIS” and “NCIS: LA” fell from last weeks inflated numbers, but were still tops for the night besides AI.

8 pm

American Idol (90 minutes): 7.5 demo, 21.2 million viewers

NCIS: 3.8 demo, 19.2 million viewers

The Biggest Loser Couples (8-10): 2.4 demo, 7 million viewers

No Ordinary Family: 1.2 demo, 4.3 million viewers

One Tree Hill: .8 demo, 1.6 million viewers

9 pm

NCIS: Los Angeles: 3.3 demo, 15.6 million viewers

V: 1.8 demo, 5 million viewers

Hellcats: .6 demo, 1.5 million viewers

9:30

Raising Hope: 3.4 demo, 8.8 million viewers

10 pm

Charlie Sheen 20/20 Interview: 3.2 demo, 9.3 million viewers

The Good Wife: 2.2 demo, 11.5 million viewers

Is your favorite show coming back or getting canceled?

NEW UPDATES ARE IN BOLD

We here at Blast follow the television ratings pretty closely (you can check out the previous night’s ratings and analysis of what they mean each afternoon here at Blast), and there’s pretty much only one reason: so we can tell you what’s getting canceled, what’s getting renewed, and frankly, what we’re not sure about.

All that data has been taken–and put into this: Blast’s handy, dandy TV Renewal/Scoreboard. We’re breaking it down into FIVE categories: Definitely Coming Back, Maybe Coming Back, Could Go Either Way, Probably Getting Canceled, Definitely Getting Canceled.

Feel free to stew, disagree, yell and cry in the comments. And check back regularly–we’re going to be updating constantly as new show data comes out, until official renewals/cancellations are announced.

* Designates a show that has already been renewed.

DEFINITELY COMING BACK

* 30 Rock

The Amazing Race

*American Dad

American Idol

America’s Funniest Home Videos

The Bachelor

*The Big Bang Theory (Renewed for three additional seasons)

The Biggest Loser

Bones

* Castle

*The Cleveland Show

*Community

*Cougar Town

Criminal Minds

Danging with the Stars

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

*Family Guy

*Fringe

*Glee

*Grey’s Anatomy

Hell’s Kitchen

House

*How I Met Your Mother: Renewed for two season by CBS.

Law and Order: SVU

The Mentalist

*The Middle

Mike and Molly

*Modern Family

*NCIS

NCIS: LA

*The Office

*Parks and Recreation

*Private Practice

*Raising Hope

*The Simpsons

Supernatural: It’s the highest-rated show on the CW (besides Smallville, already ending) so its probably not going anywhere unless deals with the cast and crew can’t be worked out.

Survivor

*Two and a Half Men: Even though the show has been renewed for one additional season (and eight episodes slated for production that were canceled this season), further turmoil behind the scenes could ultimately end the show early, despite it being the number one show on CBS.

The Vampire Diaries

PROBABLY COMING BACK

90210

America’s Next Top Model

Body of Proof: It hasn’t been great after its initial outing, but its better than most of ABC’s pathetic freshman class.

CSI: The main show still draws in the high 2.0 on Thursdays, but it’s third in the hour. Look for CBS, the second most watched network on television, to try and reclaim Thursday, by possibly moving CSI and CSI: Miami to Fridays — basically putting them out to pasture.

CSI: Miami: It’s Sunday ratings have perked up; it’s a shoe-in to return, though it may anchor Friday.

Gossip Girl

Kitchen Nightmares: This show draws a pretty weak number on Fridays, but its also stronger than most shows on Friday, and is unscripted, and thus, cheap.

Parenthood: It’s coming in last in its timeslot and still bouncing a lot, but it outdraws anything else on NBC’s schedule.

COULD GO EITHER WAY

Blue Bloods: It bounced up to a 1.9 in the latest ratings, officially confusing the TV Scorecard.

Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior: It aired without a lead-in, but the ratings still sank most recently. That can’t be good, and CBS can’t be happy with this show hovering in the mid-2s, which they envisioned as the latest in a long line of TV franchise expansion. Gut feeling is it’s coming back, if only because its mid-2s are better than anything else CBS has.

CSI: NY: It hit a 2.0 this Friday; that’s a good sign.

Desperate Housewives: It just hit series lows while the cast is seeking raises. Bad sign for an eighth season?

The Good Wife: With its latest ratings, I’d be inclined to say its likely to be canceled. Most would disagree, but the aura of a well-liked and reviewed show can only block out the truth for so long.

Harry’s Law: It keeps falling in the demo, but its been following “Modern Family” repeats and airing against “American Idol.” More telling signs will come after new “Modern Family” airs.

Happy Endings: If it keeps those debut ratings, it comes back. If not?

Hellcats: The CW is consistent, if not stagnant. How to create hits? Cancel unpopular shows and give something new a try. Well what do you cancel if everything’s doing the same? Oh…

Lie to Me: The renewal of “Fringe” has to hurt its chances.

Mr. Sunshine: It limped through its first season, 80% of it without a decent lead-in. Gut says ABC will give it another go round.

Nikita: Same sitch as “Hellcats.”

One Tree Hill: Its ratings are enough to come back, so its pretty much up to the cast. If you had done EIGHT YEARS of that show, would you want another one? I mean, everyone except the guy from Laguna’s Beach.

LIKELY TO BE CANCELED

Brothers and Sisters: It’s latest ratings pretty much seal its fate.

Better with You: It’s just not doing very well, and its recent ratings are too bad for a renewal. It may see its slot replaced by “Mr. Sunshine.”

The Chicago Code: With its latest ratings, its a goner.

Chuck: It’s ratings are just too bad to justify a likelihood for renewal, or even a toss up. The woes that NBC suffers may spare it, but under normal circumstances, its likely to be canceled.

The Event: Sorry fans of this serial, but its certainly not returning with these ratings.

Human Target: Terrible retention out of American Idol, this ones gone.

Law and Order: LA: It’s just not working out.

Mad Love: It’s latest ratings, and the airing of originals surrounded by repeats is not a good sign.

Off the Map: If the ratings didn’t signal this, then its stars joining pilots did. If you’re holding out some hope for this…don’t be stupid.

Outsourced: I would say definitely getting canceled, but you just never know on NBC.

Perfect Couples: It’s main star has been cast in a fall pilot, signifying he’s been released from his contract. Not a good sign.

Rules of Engagement: It’s not holding its own on the schedule this season, and CBS has a history of high expectations for their comedies. It’s never been scheduled consistently and has been shepherded by the network to syndication length — something it should be at by now.

Traffic Light: Terrible ratings; no chance.

V: It ended the season on a low note.

DEFINITELY GETTING CANCELED

Bob’s Burgers: Flew pretty high at first, then became an incredibly fast burnout. Passionate fanbase, all three of them.

The Cape: I liked this one at first; I couldn’t even sit through the third episode. Apparently, no one else could either.

Chase: Already canceled.

The Defenders: The lowest rated show on CBS.

Detroit-1-8-7: That’s 0 for 2 now for Michael Imperioli on ABC.

The Good Guys

Life Unexpected

Live to Dance: This show was pathetically low-rated. Maybe Paula shouldn’t have left AI.

Lone Star

Medium

My Generation

No Ordinary Family: The star of the show is filming a pilot for the fall.

Running Wilde

**Smallville: Final season

The Whole Truth

Undercovers

It's Vegas, baby

It’s Vegas, baby. The contestants are bussed to Sin City in hopes of continuing their Idol journey. The rules: they must learn and perform a song from The Beatles in less than 24 hours. The talent is at an all time high, perhaps the best the judges have seen in the past ten years (though, do they not say this every season?) With an hour of the episode focusing on Vegas, we invest even more of our emotions into these contestants. The intensity of Hollywood week was just the beginning; the frustration, the stress, the sweat and the tears, it is all making a triumphant return in Las Vegas. This episode becomes an emotional roller coaster for both the contestants and the viewers: new stars will rise while old ones will fade while a few favorites will remain consistent. By the end of this jam-packed two-hour episode, the final twenty-four will begin to surface at last.

We get a sneak peak of the bus ride to Vegas; it is all smiles…for now. The contestants are eager and thrilled to take one step closer to living their dreams. We learn that the previous night, contestants broke up into duos and trios for The Beatles performance. Considering how hectic group day was last week, I am surprised to see how easily the remaining sixty-one contestants form their groups. I think they are showing signs of maturity. Even the wildly crazy, Ashley Sullivan, avoids the break down and finds a girl to team up with. Ryan reminds us all that 1/3 of the contestants will be sent home after The Beatles performance. Uh oh, time to get cracking.

Contestants go off into separate rooms and work with vocal coaches for hours. (Is it just me or did I spot Katharine McPhee’s mother as one of the vocal coaches? Keeping the Idol family intact, I like it.) Immediately, I feel sorry for Thia Megia, a fifteen year old from Milwaukee, and Melinda, another young starlet from New Jersey. Boy, is there vocal coach a handful. No wonder why they continue to mess up; this vocal coach, as Ryan puts it, is the “vocal coach from Hell.” The two young girls definitely manage to showcase some thick skin. I have liked Thia from the beginning; her voice is mature and unique, a bit reminiscent of Adele.

We continue to get more glances into the group rehearsals. My favorite country gentleman, Scotty McCreery, as well as another favorite, Lauren Alaina, struggle with their Beatles Rendition. Their harmonies are all off. Lauren Alaina cries to the camera, claiming that this competition means everything to her. It probably means everything to every contestant, Lauren, but I still like you.

The vocal coach from Hell continues to yell at the young singers. Even the piano guy in the back feels the rush of awkwardness. This woman is not very encouraging, pinning the girls against each other and rambling about eating a Crowe. Yes, I don’t understand her either.

The producers decide to bring in big time mogul, Jimmy Iovine, to give feedback to the contestants. Apparently, his team of producers is some of the best in the business. That’s cool and all, but do we really care? There’s not much to say about this completely unnecessary part of the show. It just adds a bit more drama and reassures us that these Idol hopefuls need to either change their song or get their acts together. After the first few moments of this guy, I fast-forward to the actual purpose of the show: the performances.

Stefano Langone and James Durbin are up first. Their high-pitched voices compliment each other and the judges are pleased. It seems a bit cheesy, but all in all, these guys do the song justice.

Performing classmates, Pia Toscano and Karen Rodriguez, take the stage and do a wonderful rendition of the song, Can’t Buy Me Love. J-Lo loves it, saying, “You guys just get it. You know how to perform.” Their voices blend together so very nicely. These two girls definitely move up on the list. At this rate, they will not be looking back for a long time. I am officially pulling for them.

The next group consists of three people that are truly beginning to shine, now more then ever. Haley Reinhart, the cute 20 year old, Naima Adedapo, the funky bohemian styled girl, and powerhouse singer Jacob Lusk do a wonderfully soulful Beatles rendition. They receive a well-deserved A+ from all three judges, with Steven Tyler claiming, “Wow, that was stupendous, so well done.” Right on, Steven.

We get a quick glance at a few more performances in order to keep the show moving. I wish a few of them got a little more attention, especially one of my favorite girls this season, Lauren Turner. She continues to sing her booty off with each performance. The more I see her, the more I like her. She can do no wrong by me. Her partner is quite the hunk. Oh, and he can sing, too. He is also another early favorite of the judges, and I find myself liking him more and more as well. Though, I didn’t quite catch his name.

Tim Halperin and Julie Zorilla, two people who received much airtime during the audition process, continue to impress. These two are beginning to climb up the star ladder very quickly.

Bar Mitzvah singer, Jerome Bell, Lakeisha Lewis (who?), and Tatynisa Wilson, perform for the judges and receive mediocre reviews. Lakeisha Lewis is the stand out performer, but I have never seen her before, with Randy stating, “You got the whole Aretha thing going on.” J-Lo does not like her as much as Randy does, but Steven Tyler thinks the group nails it. Eh.

Kendra Chantelle and Paul McDonald are the next duo. Their performance of Blackbird gives J-Lo chills. Their voices are soft, soothing and incredibly sweet. I don’t know what it is about Paul, but I spotted him being a favorite of mine from the beginning. Don’t remember? Well, that may be because he got very little time on screen. His audition was quick, a snippet of him signing in a montage of others being put through to Hollywood. Despite that, something about him made me rewind and re-watch. Maybe it’s his style, maybe it’s his dazzling smile, or maybe it’s his breathy voice, I don’t know. But, he proves to be my favorite guy and my new crush. Kendra is a relatively new face, but she impresses as well. The judges fall in love with their light-hearted performance.

The show begins to pick up steam again, showcasing a string of clips from the group performances. The producers do not even bother to show us names, but, nonetheless, they all do great renditions. Next, the show decides to take quite the departure from its usual course. Instead of American Idol, maybe they should call it American Bride. Yes, they spend about ten minutes chronicling the wedding plans for crazy Ashley Sullivan. Spoiler alert: she gets hitched. Clearly, I fast-forward this within seconds, as I do not care that she gets married in the same chapel as Britney Spears.

The two young competitors, Thia and Melinda, who were subjected to the most evil vocal coach of all time, are up. The judges seem to like Thia more, especially the way she keeps her unique voice. They are not the biggest fans of the performance, though. The girls tell Ryan that they wish the performance went better. Me too, guys.

Ashley Sullivan is up with vocalist Sophia Shorai. I actually like Sophia, but it seems as if Ashley has only been kept around for good TV. Honestly, I have had enough of her wildly twisted facial expressions; sometimes it looks like her face was the mold of the original Scream mask.

Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, and some other girl that I have never seen before hit the stage. The judges tell them that they sound relatively good, but they are not the biggest fans of the performance. They agree that they are all amazing singers, but the song did not fit them well at all. The judges promise to keep that in mind.

Casey Abrams and Chris Medina are a bit of a disappointment. We only get a small clip of their performance, but I think the judges expect more, especially from them. The judges, however, still feel a strong connection to these two. My guess, they’re safe for now.

We get an encore performance from Robbie Rosen, Aaron Sanders, and Jordan Dorsey (who has remained scandal free since his diva behavior in Hollywood week.) They are fun and entertaining. Randy and J-Lo give them a few critiques, but they let the boys know that they are impressed.

Performances are over, and brutal cuts must be made. Randy calls seven people to the front of the line. A few standouts: Thia Megia, Robbie Rosen, Jordan Dorsey, and Lauren Alaina. Randy tells the front seven that they are the first people through. Sigh of relief.

More and more contestants are sent home, including Ashley Sullivan (who is surprisingly not upset), White House intern Molly, and Carson Higgins.

Finally, some of the top 24 is about to be revealed. We do not get to see much of their solo performances; rather, the show cuts right to the judges telling the contestants their fate. A bit disappointed in that, I must say. But the show must go on.

Naima Adedapo is the first one to face the judges. After a lengthy look back at her journey thus far, plus an emotional speech from Naima, the judges finally stop yanking her chain and put her through.

Holly, an emotional young teen who has held onto the support of J-Lo, is unfortunately a no. They think she can come back and win the whole thing, but she needs time to grow. Agreed.

There are a string of more dreams being crushed and tearful goodbyes. Clint, the guy who kicked Jacee out of his group (I still have not forgiven him), takes the hot seat. He rambles about how sad everything is, but Randy puts him on the spot and asks about his decision to kick Jacee out. Clint gives some excuse, and the judges toy with him a bit. Jacee aside, Clint can really sing and he is put through.

Haley Reinhart sits down; she is impressively composed and quite mature for her age. She has a good head on her shoulders. The judges put he through as well and the 20 year old, composed and all, is extremely ecstatic.

Paul McDonald, my love interest of the season, is next. The laid-back singer has quite the captivating voice, and he continues to impress the judges. He even takes a risk and sings an original song for his solo. Where can I buy it? I love it. The judges do as well. He is through with flying colors. As Simon would say, ‘he is what this competition is all about.’

Finally, the last contestant of the night, Chris Medina, takes the stage. Where do I start? This is quite possible the most heart-breaking ‘no’ I have ever seen. Chris came to us with a gut-wrenching story about his fiancé, who unfortunately suffered a terrible accident, leaving her severely injured. Chris vowed to take care of her for the rest of his life. He is the epitome of good, and the judges felt a very strong connection to him. Through tears, J-Lo slowly breaks the news to Chris. You can see how he has affected the judges, and it is quite beautiful to hear how much they appreciate him as a person and as a musician. Chris was an early favorite, but unfortunately, the judges send him home. It is a sad moment, but Chris is thankful and gracious as always. He thanks the judges for meeting his fiancé, as he says that it was the best moment of her life. J-Lo breaks down afterwards, crying and crying. Pass the tissues, please. Through her tears she mutters, “I don’t want to do this anymore…” and the show leaves us with: To Be Continued…

ABC's ratings woes continue

“American Idol” was the most dominant force in primetime again Wednesday, but that comes as no surprise; “Idol” averaged 22.5 million viewers and a 7.8 in the 18-49 demo over two hours.

CBS had reasons for happiness, but also a bump in the road. “Survivor: Redemption Island” drew a 3.3 in the demo, while leadout “Criminal Minds” pulled a 3.4, helping pace the eye net to second for the night. However, after a strong debut last week, the spinoff “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” dropped 25% of its audience to a 2.5 in the demo. That was still tops for the hour though, and if the new drama can retain that audience, it will likely see a second season come fall.

ABC didn’t have a bright evening, as “Modern Family,” its top-rated show, dropped to a season low 4.1 in the demo. That didn’t help “Mr. Sunshine,” which fell once more to a 2.4 demo. However, a 2.4 is about what “Cougar Town” has been drawing, and against “Idol” competition, is likely enough to be saved. However, “Off the Map’s” 1.7 in the demo leaves little doubt it will not be back next year.

NBC was mostly irrelevant, though “Law and Order: SVU” did tie for first in the final hour of the evening.

8 pm

American Idol (8-10): 7.8 demo, 22.5 million viewers

Survivor: Redemption Island: 3.3 demo, 11.1 million viewers

The Middle: 2.4 demo, 8 million viewers

Minute to Win It (8-10): 1.2 demo, 4.1 million viewers

8:30

How's it going so far?

Hollywood week continues on in this lengthy two-hour episode of American Idol. It is time for the dreaded group rounds. With personalities clashing and frustration levels at an all time high, we are promised an episode full of pressure and intense drama. Some of our early favorites are slated to go home while some fresh faces are slated to shine. Warning: get ready for group rounds, that is, if you can handle it.

The harsh cuts of Day 1 and Day 2 are finally over. The remaining contestants definitely have reason to celebrate, right? Not so fast. Before they can even allow this huge accomplishment to sink in, they find themselves frantically running around in a mob of idol wannabe’s in hopes of finding a group. The 168 contestants choose their own groups, and then pick a song from a list created by the producers. Oh, and they also must figure out some type of choreography. Personally, the choreography seems to be a complete waste of time as well as a distraction for the contestants (and viewers.) Do we really care about the awkward dance moves?

Some contestants from Day 1 attempt to get a jump-start on group day by forming groups and picking songs early. Well, that isn’t very fair now, is it? The producers did not think so either. They remind everyone that the groups have to be a blend of Day 1 contestants as well as Day 2 contestants. Nice try, Day 1!

Tiffany Rios knows that if she walks up to any group, they will accept her with open arms. Not quite, Tiffany. She bounces from crowd to crowd asking if anyone needs a new member. Everyone seemingly shoots her down, leaving the girl completely group-less. Maybe it would help if she whips out her silver-starred bikini top that she so confidently adorned during her first audition. It could help, you never know. Tiffany is outraged that no one wants her and soon begs Scotty McCreery, the loveable deep voiced country boy, to take her in. Sadly, he declines as well.

Tiffany Rios steals a pretty blond girl named Jessica from the group, Sugar Mamas, because she, and I quote, “loves hot people.” Scotty McCreery is now in high demand to join other groups; however, moments later, Scotty is now left with no one. The fickleness of these contestants is riveting. Everything turns into absolute mayhem, bringing out the iniquity of idol. It always manages to find the cruel sides of our once loveable contestants. Jordan Dorsey is not exactly winning anyone over with his constant critiques of others. I think he believes that he won over Simon Cowell’s job rather than Steven Tyler. With Jessica gone, the Sugar Mamas are now left without a Day 2 person once again. Things are about to get complicated.

The producers end up allowing Tiffany Rios and Jessica to perform a duet with each other since no one else wants them. The groups all break off and go to extreme measures to get a bit of privacy (bathrooms not excluded.)

The Minors, a group of solely 15- and 16-year-olds, exude confidence and happiness. They feel that they have an edge on the competition because of their age. Young, free living, and stress free. They also come with some baggage, their mothers, who do not shy away from telling their little kiddies the truth. James Durbin (high-pitched, screamer) and his group become endlessly frustrated with the stage moms in the corner. To add to the hostility between the two groups, they both pick the same song. Though, James feels that their version will suffice.

We get a quick peak into the group, Three’s Company, which is made up of exes Rob and Chelsee as well as Jacqueline. Jacqueline’s boyfriend, Nick, was supposed to be a member of the group, however, he was sent packing after Day 1. Rob seems to constantly complain to the camera while fumbling with the lyrics as well as the dance moves. Hopefully, he can pull it together when their time to shine arrives.

Resident crazy, Ashley Sullivan, has a complete breakdown during practice. Call the ward! She is in total hysterics as she begs producers to go home, claiming that she is extremely embarrassed. Ashley, sitting somberly in a corner with her hood pulled tightly over her head, eventually quits the group and basically screws everyone over.

Jacee, the adorably pudgy 15-year-old, is soon kicked out of his group. Did anyone else’s hearts break? There is also a resident diva in town, Clint, who claims that Jacee could not hold his notes. He decides that Jacee should no longer be in the group. With no one sticking up for the sweet kid, he gracefully walks away and tells them that he understands. Poor, Jacee.

American Idol judge wannabe, Jordan Dorsey, is fed up and bails on his group in search of another. Ashley Sullivan realizes that she is walking away from the opportunity of a lifetime and rejoins her group. The Sugar Mamas spot a group-less Jacee and welcome him into their group without hesitation. Jacee is determined to learn the lyrics and make his mamas proud.

So, it begins. After watching a half hour of group chaos, the most intense round of Hollywood Week finally kicks off. The first performance is a group of three New Yorkers; it is sweet, harmonized, and beautiful. Without question, the three girls make it through to the next round. The next two groups to battle off: Jordan Dorsey’s former group, 440, vs. Jordan Dorsey’s new group, Four Plus One. Impressed with each performance, the judges agree to send both groups through. We finally start to see some talented fresh faces. Stand out singer, Lauren Turner, definitely catches my eye. Girl, can sing! Let’s just hope Jordan Dorsey can take his attitude down a notch for the next round. He is on my, well, you know what, list.

The next group up is Spanglish. They’re pretty decent, but decent does not cut it nowadays. The only two members to advance to the next round are Karen Rodriquez and Kevin Jovany. The group, Center Stage, is ready to go after Spanglish. These ladies have a few tricks up their sleeve. The creative group of four girls yank a very excited Steven Tyler out of his judges seat and onto the stage. The girls offer a cute, little serenade to the rock star. Tyler even chimes in at points. Quite the adorable performance. I think most, if not all, will advance to the next round. Though, what do I know? Clearly, not very much. Only one girl shines, an early favorite named Lauren Alaina. Her group sticks by her and continues to offer support. How, sweet.

Another early favorite, country boy Matt Dillard, breaks the cardinal rule. He forgets the lyrics. Bad, Matt. Matt is eliminated along with most of his group. One beanie clad, emo-looking, Colton Dixon, is the only one the judges keep.

The show begins to pick up speed as we sail through the next few performances. Cue the montage. It is the end of the road for Paris Tassin, a young lady who brought tears to Ms. Jennifer Lopez’s eyes during her first audition. Folky singer, Emily Anne Reed, is also eliminated. To my surprise, Aaron Gutierrez is sent home while his brother, Mark, is asked to stay.

It is time for Ashley Sullivan’s group, The Hits, to hit the stage. After a string of dreadful group performances, I am surprised Ashley is able to hold it together for so long. The Hits shock us all, including the judges, and deliver quite a nice performance. Ashley, included. The judges dub them as the best harmonized group of the day. Ashley struggles a bit with pitch, but all in all, the judges are delighted. The entire group is sent through to the next round. Ashley can now take a much-needed breather.

We are back to James Durbin’s group, The Deep V’s. Their rendition of ‘Somebody to Love’ is less than pleasing. James screams louder than a six-year-old girl in the midst of a temper tantrum. Everyone in the group is rather forgetful. James’s insane range manages to get him through to the next round along with his group mate, Caleb.

The Minors take the stage to show The Deep V’s how it is truly done. This group of young idol wannabe’s perform the same song. Let me tell you, they absolutely kill it. With their stage mommies watching from a few short feet away, each kid is better than the next. The Minors even get a standing ovation from the judges. They are all through to the next round with flying colors.

With a terrible performance of ‘Grenade,’ the judges still send three people from the group forward, including Corey Levoy. Even Corey thinks he does an awful job. He forgets the lyrics, lacks eye contact, and basically butchers the song. Corey foolishly questions their decision to send him through. Randy tells him to get off the stage before they change their minds. Contestants never learn. But, hey, I guess the judges see something in him.

The Night Owls take a risk and decide to sing acapella. Familiar faces, Julie Zorilla as well as Casey Abrams, are the only two to make it through. Other faces we have seen before, including Devyn Rush, Caleb Hawley, and Chris Medina, are next. Plus, a new face. A young guy with a big personality. His name is Carson Higgins and he manages to put a smile on all three of the judge’s faces. Good job, Carson. They are all sent to the next round besides for Devyn Rush. Devyn is not very happy with the decision, and the singing waitress is devastated.

Finally, little Jacee’s group is up to bat. Will Jacee remember his lyrics? Not quite. The cute fifteen-year-old forgets everything. Instead, he sings a new version of the song. This new version is about how Jacee does not want to go home. To be honest, it is kind of endearing. The judges ask him what happened; Jacee explains he joined the group extremely late because his other group kicked him out. The judges slowly tell each person to move forward. Eventually, Jacee is standing alone in the back. Don’t worry, though. Moments later, with tears in his eyes, Jacee is asked to step forward as well. They all make it through and Jacee is absolutely elated.

Jacee’s old group is up next. Clint, the ringleader behind operation: kick Jacee out, tries to defend the group’s decision. But, being the sincere gentlemen that he is, Scotty McCreery defends Jacee and tells the judges that he regrets not sticking up for him. Their group performance is very well done. The judges think so, too. They’re through.

The final group, Three’s Company, is up. Exes Rob and Chelsee along with Jacqueline struggle to finesse their performance. However, it seems as if Rob has already given up. The tired and dreary contestant sits against a brick wall with his head hanging low. On the contrary, Jacqueline and Chelsee are still full of pep. They also seem to have formed a nice friendship. Though, the two continue to worry about their third group member. As expected, Rob completely forgets the lyrics. The guy does not even try, so I refuse to feel any sympathy for him. His ex, Chelsee, is quite good. Jacqueline, not so much. With a loud squeal in the middle of her solo, I am certain that Chelsee will be the only one to make it. Once again, I am wrong. For some odd reason, Jacqueline makes it through with Chelsee. Rob, of course, is left by his lonesome in the back of the line. He heads home. Hey, at least I got something right.

No idea why everything last night was having trouble luring viewers (perhaps everyone was watching the Lakers/Celtics game?) but several shows hit season or series lows.

“Grey’s Anatomy” drew its lowest rating of the season with a 3.9 in the 18-49 demo. “Private Practice” was actually up a tick to a 2.7.

“American Idol” was down to a 7.2 in the demo, its lowest ratings of the season. It’s still a behemoth, but its looking like the show may dip in the high 5.0 realm before the seasons through–and that would be showing a God can bleed. “Bones” drew a 3.3, a much higher number than “Human Target” the night before, which came out of a much higher demo from American Idol; proving again why its likely “Human Target” will be cancelled.

The NBC comedies were typical of NBC. “The Office” was typically strong, “Parks and Rec” was down but continues its upward trend indicating a likely renewal, while “30 Rock” was about even with its ratings trend. After a better start in the new year, “Community” has fallen back, and its 1.8 rating isn’t quite to definite cancellation, but it doesn’t look good.

On CBS, its looking increasingly likely that “$#!* My Dad Says” won’t come back for a second season. And with “CSI” continuing to trend down, the show is likely about one season removed from cancellation–unless CBS gutsily decided to cancel it this year.

“American Idol” returned Wednesday to crush the competition. The show averaged 26.1 million viewers and a 9.2 demo rating. To put that in perspective–in the demo that is more than two-times the sure-to-be-renewed “Modern Family” and “Glee” demo ratings—and more than 5 times the ratings of fellow Fox shows like “Lie to Me,” whose cancellation is now more apparent than ever.

ABC’s shows held up pretty well against the Idol monster; “Cougar Town” dropped to a 2.5 demo rating, but ABC will likely take that. Combined with “Modern Family’s” 4.6 demo, ABC averaged a 3.5 in the demo for the hour, which I imagine they will live with. “Off the Map” didn’t lose much from last week–it drew a 2.1 demo. But that’s likely not enough to earn a second season. Still, it’s not a sure-to-be-cancelled situation, such as fellow ABC drama “V.” Also, “Better with You,” the one show not renewed on ABC’s Wednesday comedy block, held up pretty well and was second in its timeslot against Idol. That bodes well.

CBS was hurt most by Idol, averaging less than a 2.0 in the demo for the night. “Live to Dance” is a bust, and “Blue Bloods” test run on Tuesday was a failure, with a 2.0 demo rating. Idol also plowed through “Criminal Minds,” which drew under a 3.0 for the first time this season, and very possibly ever.

NBC was as irrelevant as ever; in its new timeslot, “Chase” drew a 1.0.

8 pm

American Idol (8-10 pm): 9.2 demo, 26.1 million viewers

The Middle: 2.7 demo, 8.7 million viewers

Minute to Win It: 1.6 demo, 5 million viewers

Live to Dance: 1.0 demo, 5.3 million viewers

8:30 pm

Better With You: 2.2 demo, 6.8 million viewers

9 pm

Modern Family: 4.6 demo, 11.1 million viewers

Criminal Minds: 2.9 demo, 12.1 million viewers

Chase: 1.0 demo, 4.3 million viewers

9:30

Cougar Town: 2.5 demo, 6 million viewers

10 pm

Law and Order: SVU: 2.2 demo, 6.8 million viewers

Off the Map: 2.1 demo, 5.8 million viewers

Blue Bloods: 2.0 demo, 12.2 million viewers

According to ABC, new judge Steven Tyler said Tuesday that his new job as an “American Idol” judge doesn’t mean the end of Aerosmith. At a news conference with the “Idol” judges, Tyler sighed when he was asked whether the band members were comfortable with his new job since Joe Perry complained publicly about Tyler’s “American Idol” deal.

Tyler commented, “You know, I got some stuff. Everybody’s got their opinions. I just wanted to test my limitations. It’s just what I love to do. They may have some things to say about it, but it’s not going to fly … It will all come out in the wash.”

A recent study by California-based media research company Experian Simmons seems to prove what many already believe: Democrats and Republicans have different tastes. Their research reveals that Republicans are more likely to be enthusiastic about shows with big ratings while Democrats seem to gravitate towards shows that are less popular but more critically acclaimed.

“The big shows with mass appeal tend to have above-average scores from Democrats and Republicans but with higher concentrations of Republicans,” according to Experian Simmons senior marketing manager John Fetto, “Looking at the Democrats side, I don’t mean to make light of it, but they seem to like shows about damaged people. Those are the kind of shows Republicans just stay away from.”

The degree to which Republicans gravitate to more popular shows is striking: nine out of ten top shows on the Neilson list appear on the Republican list as well. None appear in the Democrats’ top 10. Democrats tend to adore “Mad Men” while “American Chopper” and “Pawn Stars” are more popular with Republicans.

While at first glance it might seem that there’s a “high brow versus low brow” conflict at the heart of these differences, the reality is more complicated. Republicans favor reality shows based around competition but certain particularly unabashedly trashy reality shows — “Jersey Shore,” “Kourtney & Khloe” — are more favored by Republicans. Animated comedies such as “Family Guy” score higher with Democrats, as do most shows on the CW.

Democrats also tend to love NBC’s Thursday night comedy block. “30 Rock”, “Community”, and “Parks and Recreation” appear in the Democrats’ top 15. Republicans tend to rate those shows lowly while, maybe surprisingly, giving “The Office” even slightly higher marks than their Democrat counterparts.

“Modern Family,” a show featuring a gay couple with adopted kids, seems like an unlikely choice for the Republicans’ number three spot, yet there it is. This and similar details of the study make it difficult to wax analytical about how viewing habits relate the supposed “culture war” between the Left and the Right in the United States. But for anyone hoping for less partisanship in American politics anytime soon, the bad news seems more concrete: Glenn Beck’s show tops the Republican list while Keith Olbermann’s program is tops with Democrats.

Here are each group’s favorites:

"Idol's" album drops November 16

With “American Idol” gearing up for its tenth season in the New Year, Simon Fuller’s pop-star assembly line shows no signs of slowing down. Come January, prime time TV, YouTube, and countless glossy magazines will, once again, be overrun with stories of fame-hungry contestants and the blinding white glow of Ryan Seacrest’s teeth. But before the new season starts, the teenie boppers and soccer Mom’s of Middle America have a new album to buy. The time has arrived for last year’s winner, Lee DeWyze to release his debut record, Live It Up from Fuller’s RCA label.

For those (like this critic) who missed DeWyze journey to “Idol” triumph, the Illinois native apparently wowed judges and premium-rate-phone-voters with covers of classic songs like Bill Withers’ “Ain’t no Sunshine” and R.E.M’s “Everybody Hurts.” DeWyze’s vocal style is pleasant enough, but it’s not particularly impressive or interesting. Playing his songs at full blast won’t threaten any nearby glassware. DeWyze sounds more like John Mayer than Otis Redding. Like Mayer, the songs from his new album will likely fill the top 40 like ignorable pieces of furniture in a young professional’s condo.

1 out of 4 stars

The creation of a musical form of Ikea was surely what the RCA puppeteers had in mind for DeWyze’s debut release. “Live It Up” achieves the kind of light, generic pop/rock that it’s demographic can accept with ease. The album is packed with soft sounds and depressingly predictable key changes. DeWyze’s lyrics are also pretty unimaginative. The eleven songs on the album deal with all the issues that one would expect from the winner of a national talent contest. The fact that DeWyze sings about young love and young heartbreak for his young audience is easy enough to swallow. What does offend about the songs is their dreary lyrical content.

Throughout the record, DeWyze doesn’t just flirt with the use of tired clichés; he takes them out to dinner, picks up the bill, and drives them home at the end of the evening. The chorus of the sickeningly catchy, “Sweet Serendipity,” for example, includes the lines “I’m always landing on my feet / in the knick of time / by the skin of my teeth.” The Idol champion is also a fan of stringing together seemingly senseless similes in his songs. On “Brooklyn Bridge,” DeWyze croons over a lounge jazz piano, singing “Every time you’re near / Its like standing in Time Square /on New Years Eve and no one is around / Like looking up on a summer’s day / and seeing snowflakes coming down.” What those lines are supposed to say about the giddy excitement of a new love is anyone’s guess, but don’t be surprised when your teenage cousin uses them in her facebook status.

The soppy lyrics and recycled pop formulas aside; surely, everyone over the age of sixteen can agree that Lee DeWyze’s success is not entirely dependent on the music he produces. Whether or not “Live It Up” sells in the way RCA would like it to, hinges on the capability of those who voted for the twenty-four-year-old on “Idol” to make room for him in their overloaded psyche. With Bieber Fever at full tilt, and a new season of “American Idol” around the corner, DeWyze will, once again, have to compete to win the hearts and minds of the record-buying public.

In the run-up to Live It Up’s November 16 release, DeWyze’s managerial team are sure to do all they can to make a return on their investment. Performances on “Good Morning America” and renditions of “Star Spangled Banner” at televised sporting events doubtlessly beckon. Sadly, for DeWyze, the early signs are that his career will better resemble that of Ruben Studdard (remember him?) than Kelly Clarkson. “Live It Up” is not the egregious thing to be released from Simon Fuller’s evil empire (he’s also responsible for the Spice Girls and making Piers Morgan famous). It seems unlikely, however, that the fifteen minutes gifted to Lee DeWyze will extend much further than his first RCA release.

Joe Biden would have sounded better

QUINCY — Siobhan Magnus, who was the sixth place finalist on the ninth season of American Idol, is a local girl from Barnstable. Today she made the trip to Quincy to join Joe Biden, John Kerry, Vicki Kennedy and other prominent Democrats in a rally for Norfolk District Attorney William Keating, who is hoping to take over the seat being vacated by Rep. William Delahunt.

She was terrible.

For those who enjoy seeing people merely because they have been television, her appearance may have been a treat. But as soon as she began her rendition of “Star Spangled Banner” it was evident that her voice — at least today — was neither powerful nor pretty. Worse, she chose an over-ambitious arrangement whose glides and turns would still have been a challenge to a singer of far greater talent.

The crowd showed appropriate appreciation for her willingness to perform and to support their favorite candidate. But even as people put their hands together for applause, many were turning to the person next to them to whisper a critical remark. She wasn’t “Rosanne bad” but it was pretty terrible for someone who is supposed to be one of the best young vocalists in the United States. Watch the video.

When she returned to the stage to sing “America the Beautiful” her rendition was simpler and less-offensive but still nothing to brag about.

Ayla Brown, daughter of Republican Senator Scott Brown, has been on American Idol as well. It might be interesting to see which of these two young local ladies — one a Democratic supporter and the other the daughter of a Republican — sounds worse without the backing of Simon Cowl’s production company. If that contest ever happens, let me know how it turns out. I’m staying out of earshot.

As far as I’m concerned, Joe Biden — or rather his extra-planetary auto-tuned counterpart — was by far the best singer to take that stage today.

Songwriter/music business executive Kara DioGuardi, after disappearing from “American Idol,” will keep working on discovering new music talents as the head judge on a new Bravo series, which is a songwriter competition that’s tentatively titled “Going Platinum.” The show will be hosted by singer Jewel, who also will help out with judging alongside an as-yet-unnamed music executive and celebrity guests.

According to MTV News, DioGuardi commented in a statement, “Hit songs are the backbone of the music industry, and as a publisher, nothing excites me more than finding new songwriting talent. I am happy to be a part of a show that helps up and coming songwriters pursue their dreams, while giving the public a look into the creative process.”

“Going Platinum” is reported that the show will “follow 12 musicians as they battle through a series of innovative songwriting challenges testing their creativity, patience and drive. From dance track to love ballad, every episode will feature a different theme that will require the contestants to write and perform lyrics from multiple genres. Their intimate life stories and personal drama will unfold within the show and in their lyrics as they compete and live together.” The program is currently in production now in Los Angeles and is slated to premiere in 2011 with 10 episodes.

Jewel also commented to the source, “I am excited to be a part of this show because as a songwriter, I understand the dedication and struggle these musicians are going through. This series will showcase the passion, talent and determination it requires to become a hit songwriter, and in the end we will find the next big music star.”

DioGuardi has written hit songs for Kelly Clarkson, Pink, the Jonas Brothers and Britney Spears, and she is executive vice president of talent development at Warner Brothers Records.

It is fascinating to witness how the show would develop while “Idol” will definitely feature a panel with newcomers Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

Fox hosted a live webcast today to announce the judges “American Idol’s” upcoming tenth season, where it announced that Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez would join original judge Randy Jackson.

Rumors have been swirling for months about the look of the new panel, since Simon Cowell announced a year ago that season nine would be his last as a judge. When Ellen announced her departure and Kara DioGuardi’s exit were confirmed, speculation on Tyler and Lopez began to swirl. It was reported earlier that compensation was a holding point in negotiations, though recently reports said that Lopez had signe a $12 million deal.

The live webcast was mired with technical difficulties, as viewers wrote on the live blog that sound was not working, and the feed was faulty at times throughout the presentation.

There’s been speculation Lopez was coming to the reality TV block for weeks, but the rumor was that she wasn’t getting the deal she wanted.

But the reports now indicate she signed for just over $12 million.

Many names have been rumored regarding the seats on the judge panel for this coming season, including Snoop Dogg and Steven Tyle. Talk about Workplace diversity!

In the midst of auditions for the upcoming season of “American Idol”, judge Kara DioGuardi announced, through a statement released by FOX, that she will be leaving the show. She did not elaborate on the reason for her departure, but did state that it “feels like the best time to leave.”

Her departure comes directly on the heels of both judge Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres’ announcements that they will also be leaving the show before next season. This leaves only Randy Jackson of the original judges panel left as the show starts its newest quest to find the next “American Idol”.

DioGuardi has her own successful career outside of the show collaborating on songs recorded by not only past “Idol” winners, but also notable names like Marc Anthony, Faith Hill, and Gwen Stefani. While it remains to be seen whether this was the reason behind the departure, it is likely this will not be the last we see of DioGuardi.

To replace not only DioGuardi, but Cowell and DeGeneres as well, it seems that the new judges will likely be Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, who have recently been rumored to be part of the new panel for next season. However, there has been no official announcement, yet.

Blast talks to the stars of the upcoming "post-reality" show

“If I Can Dream” is what co-creator Simon Fuller calls a “post-reality show.” Fuller, who also created “American Idol,” says “If I Can Dream” will document the authentic stories of five young people who dream of success in Hollywood. Viewers will be able to interact with the stars in real time by commenting on the 24/7 live stream that will air on www.ificandream.com.

“If I Can Dream” gives viewers open access to a show in a way that has never been done before. Watch the Hollywood hopefuls’ every move live online as they rehearse, write, socialize, and plan their careers.

In this new type of reality show, there’s no Snookie; there are no booze-fueled sex-rampages — well that’s actually to be seen. But according to Fuller, this is meant to be more of an intimate peek into the lives of normal people struggling to become one of the lucky ones that make it big in Los Angeles.

The five cast members met for the first time in New York City before embarking on a global tour introducing them to the world. They have traveled to Berlin, Tokyo, Taipei, Sydney, Rio, and Toronto, and have returned to the U.S. for a cross-country road trip before moving into their Hollywood Hills home to begin filming on March 2.

Blast met up with the stars at The Hard Rock Cafe where Justin Gaston, the musician of the group, performed following Selena Gomez. Gaston, 21, is a Louisiana native who has already gained some notoriety for being in Taylor Swift’s "Love Story" video as well as for dating pop princess Miley Cyrus in 2009. Along with Justin is Ben Elliot, 22, an actor from Hamburg, NY; Kara Kilmer, 21, an actress from Crowley, TX; Giglianne Braga, 20, a model from Kearny, NJ, and Amanda Philips, 23, an actress/model from Geneva, NY.

BLAST: Justin, how do you think your performance went?

JUSTIN GASTON: I thought it went great.

KARA KILMER: It was an epic performance.

BLAST: How’s Selena Gomez?

BEN ELLIOT: Very sweet girl.

KK: She seems really solid and carries herself very well.

BLAST: Have you seen where you are going to live in Hollywood?

ALL: Yes!

KK: It’s really amazing. On hulu.com you can look up trailers for the show and you can see the house.

BLAST: You guys have been on a tour all over the world the last few weeks. Where is your favorite place?

AMANDA PHILIPS: Everyone says Australia but my favorite was Rio.

KK: I loved Taipei.

BLAST: Did you get some good food in Taipei?

KK: Good food. Good people.

BLAST: How did you guys like the interviews there?

BE: (laughs) Different.

AP: Absolutely crazy!

BLAST: Were they game shows?

KK: They were all partly game shows. It’s so indescribable. It was kinda like walking into Candy Land.

JG: There were always teenage kids interacting on the shows.

KK: (laughs) They always had crazy sound effects going the whole time. You would say one thing and then “booooinngg.”

BLAST: How were you guys cast for the show? Did you send videos?

KK: It was different for all of us.

JG: I was in LA and casting directors had been sent out all over the city for the show.

BLAST: Did you guys ever think you would be doing something like this?

ALL: No.

KK: Great opportunity though!

BLAST: Has this all been a whirlwind lately?

KK: It is still sort of surreal going into interviews and taking pictures with people.

AP: I love every second of it. I got a chance to go home for a couple of days after we got back from Toronto. I’m from upstate New York. It feels so different to be home after you get out of the whole interview thing. You’re home then all of a sudden you are back out in it.

BLAST: Who wants to give our readers a sum up of what the show is and what you will be doing?

AP: To viewers it’s an inside look at Hollywood. But to us, it’s a way to make our dreams come true by getting great acting coaches. Justin will be working with amazing songwriters and producers; Giglianne will be working with modeling coaches. We are getting the best out of the business and get to progress in our talents and a chance to be somebody, and of course make our dreams come true!

BLAST: You guys seem very excited for this opportunity.

BE: We are pumped. But we realize how fortunate we are to have an opportunity that no one really gets.

KK: We all know we are very lucky.

BLAST: Did you guys go to school or have you been focusing on this your whole life?

JG: Well, we went to high school. (Laughs)

BLAST: Hopefully.

KK: I am actually in my last semester at Baylor. I am completing it abroad.

BLAST: At Blast we get a lot of twilight fans hitting the site…

JG: TEAM ED!

GIGLIANNE BRAGA: Team Ed.

JG: I really don’t think there should be a team Bella, personally. There should just be Ed and Jacob. I mean they are going after Bella right? A team Bella shouldn’t exist.

BE: I really think you should really know that we are gonna be on 24 hours, completely unedited on ificandream.com. There are 50 cameras in the house and you could click on me and follow me around all day. There are even cameras in the car so the car is like part of the house.

AP: A Ford Fiesta.

BLAST: What about the bathroom?

BE: There is only one in the mirror. You can’t see anything inappropriate.

BLAST: Do you feel prepared to be filmed 24 hours a day?

ALL: No idea.

BLAST: Guess you can’t actually prepare for this experience.

JG: Well, I had my roommate follow me around with a camera for a while.

BLAST: What! Really?

JG: No, not really

ALL: (laugh at gullible journalist)

BLAST: It’d be a lot funnier if you did. Any advice for young people looking to get in the industry?

KK: Keep trying.

JG: MySpace has an audition process for the show so definitely try out. Once one of us moves on in the industry and out of the house they will put someone new in.

BE: Yea, this is going to be an ongoing type of thing.

JG: But, yeah, just definitely be persistent.

It will be the last season featuring Simon Cowell, the stern-judging Brit who brought this level of reality/talent television to America.

A lot of FOX news today — “Glee” gets picked up for a second season. At the same time, the network is launching a nationwide search to find talented cast members for the second season. Visit fox.com/glee for updates.

“Bones” hits the 100 mark on April 8, and “Family Guy” would be somewhere around 300 if it wasn’t canceled. The cartoon hits its 150th episode on May 2. “America’s Most Wanted” hits 1,000 episodes with a special 22nd anniversary episode March 6.

FOX is also working up a buddy cop action/comedy that’s so far called “Code 58,” set to preview on May 12 and 19 and premiere on June 7. Code 58 was created by Matt Nix, who also has “Burn Notice” under his belt, so he knows what he’s doing.

“Breaking Bad” premieres with a third season on March 21 at 10 p.n. Before that, the cable network will air a six-episode marathon March 19.

Finally, yes, it’s official, Sarah Palin signed a multi-year deal with FOX News. She won’t get her own show but rather will support other shows on the network.

Syesha Mercado talks about her stage role in Dreamgirls

Losing your voice on Fox’s “American Idol” would be a nightmare come true for most contestants, but not for Syesha Mercado. During Hollywood Week, she communicated with a raspy whisper and handwritten notes, and then shocked the judges with a powerful rendition of “Chain of Fools,” after which Randy declared her the “one to watch.” America fell in love with the gorgeous, optimistic, and bubbly then 20-year-old, who has had her share of difficult times. Her father – now recovered – struggled with alcohol and drug addiction, and her house burned down when she was in high school. She made it to the top three during “Idol’s” seventh season, behind David Archuleta and winner David Cook, but that was just the beginning.

Blast caught up with the young starlet to hear about her upcoming debut album and her lead role in the Broadway production of “Dreamgirls,” which premieres on November 22 at the Apollo Theater in Harlem and will continue on a 14-city tour throughout the country.

BLAST: What was it like to achieve the sudden success brought on by “American Idol?”

SYESHA MERCADO: It was crazy! It was such a journey and a roller coaster ride. I learned a lot about myself and about what I want my image to be. I met so many amazing people and made a lot of great friends. It was an amazing experience all around, and I am very grateful for it.

BLAST: Tell us about your upcoming album. What was the inspiration for it? What can fans expect to hear? When will it be coming out?

SM: I’ve been writing since elementary school; I’ve kept journals. All of my experiences in life have been incorporated into my music. It’s high energy, pop crossover. It tells the story of my life. It’ll be released sometime after the Broadway tour is over. I’ve been so grateful to be able to work with producers like Chris Rojas, Scott Cutler, REO (who produced Beyonce’s “Hello”), Andrew Dixon, and Evan Bogart. Soon I’ll be working with Eric Hudson and Toby Gad, and I’m really looking forward to it.

BLAST: You are quoted as saying, “As an artist, I believe experiences provide musicians with the inspiration for their music.” Could you tell us about an experience that has inspired your music?

SM: I’m inspired by love, relationships, the people around me, my family. I’m away from my family a lot, so I like to think about the good things and the good times. Being on the road inspires me, nature inspires me. My freshman year of high school, my house caught on fire. It really brought up lots of emotions and made me appreciate the small things.

BLAST: Tell us about your upcoming role in the stage production of “Dreamgirls.” Does the role of Deena Jones hold any significance to you? What is the most exciting part of being in a Broadway show for you?

SM: I can relate with every character, I think. People have many sides. Throughout the play, my character finds herself, and I can relate to that. I have lived that aspect of having a dream and working hard to achieve it. My character has a special place in my heart.

Being in the moment on stage is exciting to me. I’m inspired by the actors I work with, and by my the audience. That’s the beauty and the magic of theater: the show is different every time, it evolves. I’m moved and inspired by the audience. It’s amazing that the show is opening up at the Apollo. I am so excited to be performing there. I can feel the energy and the presence of the people who have performed there before, like Ella Fitzgerald and Michael Jackson. It’s an honor and a privilege. I’m so excited!

BLAST: What is a typical day like for you now?

SM: It’s different every day. Today I found out I have a revised schedule. We’re doing a costume parade, and I’ve never done one before. We wear our costumes and have our hair and makeup done — I wear 17 wigs! We parade across the stage and the director, stage manager and costume designer make sure everything looks right. There’s lots of standing and walking around. But there’s an amazing energy. I love being around all the other actors who love performing, too. I love it, I love the energy. And everyone’s so nice!

BLAST: What would you say to someone who has dreams of becoming a professional actor or singer?

SM: I’ve learned that you have to go after what you want, no matter what. Something’s gonna happen, there are going to be obstacles, but that’s life. You’ve got to keep going. No one is going to work harder for you than you. Be positive and it’ll happen. Oh, and practice! Practice is important.

BLAST: What do you think of the fact that Paula Abdul isn’t coming back to “American Idol?”

SM: I think it’s sad; I really love her. She was the motherly one, she really cared about us, and she was very sincere. She’d give us gifts and pep talks. Ellen (DeGeneres) is cool, too, though. She’ll be a good voice for the public, for people who watch the show but who aren’t singers. She’ll do well, she’s so funny.

“I just finally got the OK . . . just moments ago to announce this to you today. We’ve been dealing with this for the last couple of weeks and I’ve been dying to tell everyone.”

Never fear, Ellen will continue with her talk show.

Idol’s creator and executive producer, Simon Fuller, said in a statement, “I could not be more excited to have Ellen join the ‘American Idol’ family.”

Ellen is sure to be more fun than Paula, but the question is whether or not she is a credible judge for a singing competition. Whatever the case, let’s just hope she dances.

In August the season 8 “Idols” stopped at Boston’s TD Banknorth Garden.

For eight seasons now, millions of viewers have tuned into Fox twice a week for America’s most popular talent competition “" American Idol. After each season the finalists embark on a nationwide tour to perform their biggest hits from the show. In August the season 8 “Idols”, including this season’s winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert stopped at Boston’s TD Banknorth Garden. Blast was lucky enough to get a few minutes with finalists Allison Iraheta, Scott MacIntyre and Michael Sarver to talk about the tour, life after Idol and their plans for the future.

“The tour is going great, everything is amazing” said MacIntyre.

“The fans are the reason that it is. I couldn’t imagine this without them and their incredible support” Sarver commented. Fans were already waiting outside of the Garden hours before the show in the sweltering heat hoping to get a glimpse of their favorite contestant. Sarver elaborated that meeting the fans is their favorite part of the day, but due to security restraints and the number of people outside they wouldn’t be able to do it at the Garden.

Fans of the show have already drastically changed the lives of the Idol contestants who now have to adjust to being recognized everywhere they go.

“[My] personal life down the drain. People know who I am now” said Iraheta.

“There is not a single place that I can go where someone doesn’t recognize me, which is flattering” Sarver said. “I’m not going to lie, I like to eat without being talked to, but outside of eating I don’t mind being disturbed. It’s very flattering and very touching for people to know who I am.”

The Boston date was just over the midway point for the tour, and the idols were lucky enough to enjoy a day off in Beantown before they performed at the Garden on August 18.

Sarver and a few of the other male finalists took a Duck tour and a trip to the Aquarium while MacIntyre went scouring the city for a grand piano.

“I found one at a hotel way far away from the hotel we are staying in now. I got to play one song before they kicked me out” MacIntyre said, “(The piano) was in hearing distance of three or four rooms. I like to respect people’s sleep.”

The Boston day off was one of the few on the tour when Iraheta wasn’t shuttled off to recording her upcoming album.

“It’s pretty crazy, you know. (On) days off you record. They have been sending me songs, so just cutting them and getting them out there” said Iraheta. She has been working with famed producer Kevin Rudolf who is an idol of hers.

“It’s definitely going to be the rock album I have always wanted to do” explains Iraheta about the sound of the album when asked how much pop will have to be enthused with the album by record label request. While admitting that some compromise will have to be made, Iraheta is adamant about staying true to herself and her sound, “Hopefully it’ll be just a good rock album” she said.

Iraheta, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen all signed contracts with 19 Recordings Entertainment – the label backing the American Idol competition. All contestants were under contract with 19 Recordings from the start of the show until August 20. If they did not sign with 19 Recordings then they had to wait until August 20 to make any official contractual agreements with any other label or entertainment company.

Due to the contract issue, none of the Idols were able to comment on any specific plans once they were free from 19 Recordings, but each said they were shifting through options.

“It is going to be country” said Sarver of his plans for his full-length album. “I have simply stated that there is going to be an album because I’ve been working on one, but that doesn’t mean legally. I have several options but even if that doesn’t work out, I have built a recording studio in my house so I will release it whether someone picks it up or not – there will be a Michael Sarver album out there” Sarver promises.

While also sorting through record deal offers, MacIntyre, who was born visually impaired has also been offered a book publishing deal to write an autobiography of his experiences so far.

“[It] is something I’ve been wanting to do for a really long time” explains MacIntyre. “It is going to be about my life. I feel like I do have a lot to say still. I have received thousands of e-mails from around the world of the most touching stories. People have told me that even just the little bit of my life story that they have experienced through American Idol has meant so much to them” MacIntyre said.

MacIntyre is also considering a career behind the scenes, writing songs for other artists he admires.

“I would love to write a song for Tim McGraw and for the Jonas Brothers” admitted MacIntyre, “I write a lot of material in that power pop kind of punk genre.”

Though the Idols’ paths are diverging, they are united during the tour and by their experiences on the show.

“This is a chance for fans to see us for who we really are” MacIntyre said, “not through the lens of Motown week or Michael Jackson week.”

Iraheta echoes the sentiment in her advice to anyone auditioning for the show, but it seems to work for life in general too.

“Stay true to yourself and just go for it” she said.

Matt Giraud took some time from the “Idol” tour to chat with Blast.

From a cafƒ© in Arizona, accompanied by his “wingmen” Danny and Anoop (fellow former “American Idol” contestants), Matt Giraud took some time out of his day off from the “Idol” tour to chat with Blast Magazine about his “Idol” experience and upcoming new gig as mentor and host of the Yobi network’s new show, “Make the Cut.”

Prior to his recent Idol fame, Giraud spent his time as a dueling piano player, a gig in which he never truly felt comfortable. “They thought I was too good to be playing there; they could always tell I wanted to be a true artist. At the time, I just wanted a job.”

Born and raised in Michigan, Giraud was a performer from birth. It wasn’t until last season’s “American Idol” that he got his “big break” unless you count a 2nd place win in the West Michigan “Idol” contest.

In Hollywood Giraud placed fifth in the competition, after being the first ever recipient of the “judges save” and given a second chance at proving his talent. That he did, performing The Fray’s “You Found me”, Stevie Wonder’s “Part Time Lover” and eventually being eliminated after a passionate rendition of Richard Rodger’s “My Funny Valentine.”

The judges save was a turning point for Matt. Although he didn’t win the competition, it boosted his confidence and forced the world to take a second look at this dueling piano player from Michigan. It was ” “¦a huge honor” reflects Matt, “People behind the scenes, the judges, they saw something in me. I didn’t feel like I could convey that to the audience in a minute and a half.”

Now in full swing, The “American Idol” Tour has, so far, been getting rave reviews – in large part because of Giraud’s performances. “People on tour are surprised at how good I am. I’m making a bigger impact now. I’m calling it my “ËœRedemption Tour.’”

When the tour wraps, Giraud will travel back to Michigan where he’ll take a back seat as performer. Yobi TV, the “online reality contest network” will air “Make The Cut” in September ’09. Matt describes it as the “”ËœAmerican Idol’ of the internet.” Twelve finalists will have the chance to rise to the top and then be mentored by Giraud in MI recording studios as the elimination process continues. One winner will win a chance to cut a record.

What will Giraud’s role be? “It’s cool to be on the opposite end of the spectrum” he says. As a mentor he hopes to ” “¦bring a little hope, bring out their talent and passion. I’m not just going to blast people like Simon.” Sounds like he’ll be channeling Paula a bit.

While future plans have yet to be set in stone, Matt Giraud knows one thing for sure: he is beyond thankful for everything. He is currently writing songs, booking gigs, and wants “to do a ton of different things.” For someone whose influences include Louis Armstrong and Dru Hill, it sounds like success will certainly continue for this dynamic performer.

But first, it’s time for Matt Giraud to finish his scone and get back to the “Idol” tour”¦

“Make the Cut” airs on Yobi TV in September 2009.

It’s no secret Ryan Seacrest was recently offered $45 million in a three-year contract to continue hosting “American Idol.” Randy Jackson has signed on until at least 2011 and Simon Cowell is currently in negotiations for a new contract. Even Kara DioGuardi wants to come back, and auditions for the ninth season of the hit show are already underway.

Notorious softy Paula Abdul, however, will more than likely be absent from the judge’s table. The New York Daily News reported today that Paula has yet to be offered a new contract.

“She’s not a happy camper as a result of what’s going on,” said Paula’s manager, David Sonenberg. “I find it kind of unconscionable and certainly rude and disrespectful that they haven’t stepped up and said what they want to do.”

As showbiz often goes, the drama is high school-worthy – ignoring the weird girl until she just goes away. So, not surprisingly, Sonenberg said Paula probably won’t be an “Idol” judge next season.

And in even less of a surprise, Paula is tweeting her feelings: “I’m actually moved 2 tears upon reading the enormous amount of tweets showing me your kindness, love, & undying support. God bless all of you! If it weren’t for you, this specific time and situation would feel a whole lot worse!”

Eloquent as always, Paula. Cue Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day.”
