Steam is pretty much the best service for PC gamers, and if it wasn’t already great enough, Valve recently launched an open beta for a dynamically overhauled iteration of the beast.

The new iTunes feel

Valve’s calling it “A Brand New Steam” and it looks to be a generally more effective way to play your favorite games.

You can sign up to join the public beta right here and here’s what awaits you.

An expanded friends list, allowing you to keep better track of what your friends are up to, an aggregated news feed, a way to see your in-game achievements on the fly, and, for the true game enthusiast, the library has been updated allowing you to form categories like “games I should play with my girlfriend” or “games I shouldn’t tell my girlfriend about.”

Storefront.

On top of everything, the user interface just looks sleeker, and that’s nice.

Head on over to the “A Brand New Steam” page for full details on the revamp.
