Via Reuters, it looks like Steven Spielberg and EA are going to continue the Boom Blox series just one year after the new IP’s debut with Boom Blox Bash Party. I am a huge fan of the original, and this sequel is promising “more than 400 new levels” as well as “increased multiplayer action”. Most notable though, may be the inclusion of user-generated downloadable content as well as additional levels created by the team at EA.

If you’re going to do a sequel, especially so soon after the first, do it right. EA seems to have the idea with this one, by adding a ton of new levels as well as announcing the two forms of DLC. Having a Boom Blox that doesn’t end if you don’t want it to, much like Sony’s recent LittleBigPlanet or Majesco’s Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy, is going to be a good reason for those still content with their purchase of the original to get off of their couches and head to their local game retailer.

If you have not yet played the original, just know that you are missing out. Think reverse-Jenga with explosions, point multiplying combos and puzzle elements, and you wouldn’t be far off. It’s still something you need to experience to appreciate though, so give the original a spin before the new and supposedly improved version comes out later this year.
