EA announced today via a press release that their newest installment in the Madden series will be Madden NFL 25. Rather than simulate football twelve years in the future, EA is celebrating 25 years of the most successful football franchise in gaming history.

The announcement only specifies that fans will be able to vote on the next cover athlete beginning March 11 and that the game will be in store shelves on August 27. While details on new gameplay improvements and game modes have been kept hush, do not be surprised to see EA imitate the success 2k Sports has had with classic teams in their NBA series. It would be ridiculously awesome to play as Joe Montana and his 49ers against the undefeated ’72 Dolphins or simply see what a player like Walter Payton can have against a linebacker like Ray Lewis.

This is another interesting move by EA considering their contract with the NFL expires this season. It may be a way to show fans how good they have been for so many years, or a desperation throw to try to add some variety to the yearly franchise.
