TV broadcasts being interrupted for Emergency Alert Messages is common place, but citizens of Great Fall, MT must have done a double take when they heard the message this past Monday. Their city was apparently under attack — from the undead.

“Dead bodies are rising from their graves and attacking the living,” the Emergency alert message read before warning viewers not to try to approach or apprehend the bodies as they are considered “very dangerous.”  Of course, there were no zombies. No dead rising from the graves, no walkers, no quest for brains. There was just Montana. The message was apparently the work of hackers who target the Montana station along with several others around the country including WBKP and WNMU in Marquette, Michigan; KNME/KNDM in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and KRTV in Great Falls, Montana.

Not much is being said about the attack, but Jon Saunders, vice-president of the Montana Television Network did issue a short statement. “KRTV along with several other stations across the country was subject to a cyber-attack that intruded into our EAS system. We’re still investigating what happened.” Greg MacDonald, president and CEO of the Montana Broadcasters Association confirmed that since the attack is considered a federal offense and likely came from overseas; the FBI and FCC are investigating.

The video below features the original broadcast featuring the news alert broadcast by KRTV. What’s your take? Funny? Over the top? What would you do in the event of the zombie apocalypse?
