Phoebe Snow, known for her song “Poetry Man,” died on Tuesday of complications from a stroke that she suffered last year. She was 60.

Snow suffered a stroke in January last year, when she had finished recording a collection of songs and was rehearsing with her band to perform weekly shows at a winery in New York.

Her manager Sue Cameron said in a statement, “Our treasured icon heroically fought for almost a year-and-a-half to come back, enduring bouts of blood clots, pneumonia and congestive heart failure … until her body finally could take it no more.”

Snow released 16 albums and was nominated for a best new artist Grammy Award in 1975.

Snow leave her sister, Julie Laub, her uncle Bob Laub and several cousins.

I am so saddened by this… she was my favorite lyricist and singer…I have been mimicking her stylings since I first heard her… Her range was amazing… the poetry in her music took me through so many times in my life and will continue to do so…. She gave me that “Something Real” one time before I died… Rest in Peace Phoebe… your music will live on in my home & heart forever…
