At the end of October, Anberlin and The Maine brought their current co-headlining tour to The House of Blues for a night chock full of alternative rock.
From Indian Lakes, a band with a big sound and solid musicianship, opened up the show. They played a handful of songs, mainly drawing from their most recent release, Able Bodies. They were followed up by Lydia, long a favorite by many in the alt-rock scene. Lydia has undergone numerous member changes since first starting out, but has stuck with their music. 2008’s Illuminate remains their most popular and successful release, more so than their three albums that were released following it.
Fan-favorite The Maine was the final act to take the stage prior to Anberlin. They burst onto the boy-band, pop-rock scene back in 2008 with their debut full-length, Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop. In the following years though, they have produced three albums containing a much more sophisticated and unique alternative rock sound. Currently supporting Forever Halloween, which was released this year, their set for the evening relied heavily on new songs. The band will be releasing an acoustic EP, titled Imaginary Numbers, on December 10th.
Anberlin headlined the night, and mixed their set up with both songs from their most recent album, 2012’s Vital, as well as old favorites. Around since 2002, Anberlin has long been releasing solid albums of alternative rock that can be aggressive at times. They broke out back in 2005 with Never Take Friendship Personal, and have their record total up to 6 now. They put on the most energetic performance of the evening, really translating the energy of their music to the crowd.
