On November 26, Jersey rockers The Gaslight Anthem kicked off a short trek through the US at Boston’s House of Blues. The brief November-December tour is another stint in support of Handwritten, the group’s most recent effort that debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200.
All three levels of the venue were filled in anticipation of The Gaslight Anthem’s first show back in Boston since a July gig at The Middle East. Solo singer-songwriter Matthew Ryan opened things up,  followed by New York punk band Polar Bear Club.
Starting off their set with the mellow “Mae,” The Gaslight Anthem soon kicked things up a notch with  “The ’59 Sound” from their sophomore effort by the same name. The 19-song set featured a new track, “Halloween,” and a cover of Pearl Jam’s “State of Love and Trust.” Taking a bow after the popular single”Great Expectations,” the band re-emerged and played a seven song encore, ending the night somewhere around midnight.
