If you were on the fence about whether or not Metal Slug 7 was worth it, ask yourself: How great is it to be able to carry a Metal Slug worthy of the series’ name with you anywhere you go, with the ability to blast through well-designed levels and enemies whenever you get the urge?
Top 10 video games of 2008
Dec. 31, 2008 3 Comments
Now that the gaming year of 2008 is over, it’s time to take a look back at some of the best titles released. There are top ten lists popping up all over the Internet, but this list is going to be a bit different. Instead of simply ranking what I consider the ten best games of the year, I am going to list them with no specific order or reasoning to them. That way, I can just be chastised for the normal things authors of these lists deal with, like being biased for or against a system instead of “How could you rank [X] ahead of [Y]! You’re a n00b!”
Kung Fu Panda: Legendary Warriors

“Kung Fu Panda: Legendary Warriors” has its merits, as it is at times a charming brawler that young fans of the movie may be excited to play. There are non-licensed titles that do all of the good things “Kung Fu Panda” does (and better) out there though, so if your kid isn’t dying to revisit the world of Po and his pals once more, you are better off shopping elsewhere, especially since this sequel came so soon after the original hit shelves.
Celebrity Sports Showdown sucks

At first glance, “Celebrity Sports Showdown” looks like an improved version of “Wii Sports,” as it includes more sports, celebrity characters and a few game modes to keep you coming back. Backbone Entertainment’s “Monster Lab” is a game that will surely fly under the radar, but it’s worthy of more than that sad fate.
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World

“Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World” is a follow-up to 2003′s excellent “Tales of Symphonia,” widely considered by many to be the top Tales’ title out there and potentially the best RPG on the GameCube. Given this, it has quite a reputation to uphold, and in many ways, it does just that, and does those things very well.
LittleBigPlanet is big fun

There are times when I feel like LittleBigPlanet is some of the most fun I have had with a game in a long time, as it exudes the kind of quality in a platformer that you rarely see outside of the hallowed grounds of Nintendo products. There are other times where I want to smack my Sackboy with my Dualshock 3 in much the same way you can smack other players around in co-op mode, thanks to frustrating control mechanics and the occasional hiccup with getting stuck under objects and being forced to waste a life.

There is always a clamor for unique efforts on the Wii that utilize the hardware, and Blue Tongue has done just that with a game that will have you coming back again and again. If you have money for just one Wii game during the next few weeks before the holiday releases start to pour in, use it on “de Blob.” You won’t be disappointed.
