The Globe and Mail is reporting that former Pittsburgh Penguin forward Marian Hossa has signed a one-year, $7.4 million deal with the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings.
Hossa was with the Penguins last year when they got mopped up by Detroit in the Stanley Cup Finals.
A former first-round pick of the Ottawa Senators in 1997, Hossa has 299 career goals and 349 assists in 701 career games.
Why would he go for a one year deal? If he gets hurt then nothing is guaranteed, doesn’t make sense.
He went for the one-year because the only reason he left the Pens is because he wants a Cup. If Detroit falters this season (highly unlikely) he has the option to move to a better team. And if they do win the Cup, he’s not tied down to staying with a team that will almost certainly not win three in a row. Two in a row is hard enough.
