The past decade has been a great one if you were a Marvel fan. The franchise continues to spew out childhood dream fulfilling movies that somehow manage to remain tied together in the same universe with a continuous cast. These are films that are backed by massive budgets and for the most part outright deliver on their promise.

Yet, for some reason, we have not seen this level of quality translate into the gaming world. I struggle to think of a game that so carefully captured the Marvel Universe like the films have since Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and that came out 10 years ago. So seeing Square Enix sign a multi-game deal with Marvel is some huge news.

The publisher behind Deus Ex, Final Fantasy and the Tomb Raider games teased their next big project with this jaw-dropping trailer.

Details on their first game, The Avengers Project, are scarce but we do know Tomb Raider developers Crystal Dynamics are working alongside Eidos Montreal. Here is a statement from Square Enix:

The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.

I couldn’t be more excited.
