Did you enjoy the historic, but brief, return to Shadow Moses Island in “Metal Gear Solid 4?” Do you wish they would just re-do the 1998 classic already? Well, a group of dedicated fans is skirting the legal waters in an attempt to get a complete remake of “Metal Gear Solid” done on the Unreal Engine 4.

The team posted their initial trailer yesterday, showing off some gorgeous renders of the Shadow Moses facility, the hangar where Metal Gear Rex is stationed, as well as glimpses of the room where you fight Psycho Mantis.

However, the copyright issue is not lost on lead developer Airam Hernandez, who posted a message on Facebook explaining his reasoning.

We just need to clarify something:

Konami owns the MGS copyright and therefore sooner or later we will need their full permission.

We have therefore chosen to openly share this project from the beginning so that we can deal with any issues that may arise as they come.
We believe this is better than putting years of work into a project only to get it shut down.

Please, respect this decision.

Thanks for your attention,

Airam.

Konami has not had one of their better years with fans. After the unexpected cancelling of the upcoming “Silent Hills” reboot, the Japanese publisher had an extremely messy breakup with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, which ended with his departure from the company and absence from this year’s Game Awards. If they let this project live, Konami might just gain back some of the trust it has lost with its fan base.
