7:58 p.m.: Hey Blast readers, it’s your entertainment editor here, reporting live from a tiny apartment in the East Village with my predictions, and impressions, and any surprises. Commentary about acceptance speeches and outfit choices can also be expected. Feel free to leave your own in the comments as we go!

8:00 p.m.: Here we go!

8:00 p.m.: ….did they just say “Johnny Depp” and “Dave Grohl”?

8:01 p.m.: So Taylor Swift is officially trying her damndest to channel an absent Lady Gaga….

8:03 p.m.: “What are these rabbits? What are these STILTS? What is happening right now?…Where’s my drink?” – My roommate

8:07 p.m.:   Nothing like being caught totally off-guard by a shout out during the Grammys opener, eh, JT?

8:10 p.m.: Absolutely nothing against LL Cool J, but am I the only one who kind of wishes that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler could somehow host this show, too?

8:12 p.m.: Cannot even imagine having Sir Elton John performing one of my songs, especially as a relatively new artist. Congrats to Ed Sheeran, for sure…also I’m really jealous.

8:16 p.m.: But seriously, everything Sir Elton does turns to gold. He’s one of a kind.

8:19 p.m.: Crowd shots are the best. Reactions when people don’t know they’re on camera? You don’t have to tell us how you really feel…we already know.

8:19 p.m.: Let’s be real, everyone expects Adele to win this. Because….it’s Adele, you guys.

8:20 p.m.: SHOCKER.

8:22 p.m.:  Panic! At the Disco already tried that one, NPH.

8:25 p.m.: Looks like someone is already trying to upstage that elaborately weird TSwift performance! Side note, it’s working.

8:32 p.m.: Blue velvet? Alright John, you win this round….

8:34 p.m.:  So is the audio quality particularly iffy at this year’s ceremony, or is everyone just that much worse than we thought they were?

8:40 p.m.: Going to go out on a limb and say these are the best live vocals of the night so far. Assuming they are, in fact, live, because didn’t Beyonce’s Inauguration scandal make you question everything?

8:42 p.m.: It’s really a shame that all of these live performances, as fun as they are, resulted in Best Alternative Album, Best Rock Album, and the rock song of the year being moved to the pre-show. I just found this out 5 minutes ago but STILL….

8:47 p.m.: Fan bias aside, the fact that Dan Auerbach has won 3 Grammys tonight and not one was part of the main broadcast is kind of messed up, don’t you think?

8:50 p.m.: Sorry,I’m still stuck on the fact that they just used a single from 1998 to introduce this category. Also, I call it for Fun.

8:52 p.m.: To the surprise of no one! But seriously, good for these guys. What a whirlwind. And I can’t be the only one who really liked The Format!

8:54 p.m.: News to no one: Johnny Depp can, and will, do whatever he wants.

8:55 p.m.: Weird audio quality aside, whoever’s designed the sets for tonight’s performances has done a fantastic job.

8:57 p.m.: And a solid performance from Mumford, as expected. That banjo!

9:01 p.m. Justin? So does this mean I should prepare to get “Suit and Tie” stuck in my head for another 3 weeks?

9:04 p.m.: Where did this sepia come from? Who cares, I love it.

9:06 p.m.: A welcome worthy of someone who brought sexy back, amirite? (Been waiting to use that joke for years).

9:12 p.m.: This may be the least surprising Grammy Awards ever. But congrats all around anyway!

9:14 p.m.: Also clearly that memo had a huge impact on the wardrobe choices tonight….

9:17 p.m.: I thought JT’s performance ended. How has he managed to infiltrate the commercial break twice already? Is the rest of the broadcast just “Suit and Tie” on loop?

9:20 p.m.:Gratefully not. Hi, Dave Grohl! Is there anything you don’t do? …..No, seriously.

9:21 p.m.: 6 months ago I would’ve called this for Coldplay. So glad The Black Keys finally got their televised recognition, though! El Camino is a monster.

9:25 p.m.: Anyone else immediately flashing back to a credit card commercial?

9:28 p.m.: This one’s actually tough to call. Will be interesting…

9:28 p.m.: Hey, alright! Kelly Clarkson, proving once again she’s a class act. Is there a Grammy for Most Adorable Acceptance Speech?

9:26 p.m.: I take back what I said about Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. It’d be a shame for the two of them to get as little screen time as LL Cool J is getting.

9:38 p.m.: Rihanna with a seriously great vocal performance tonight, especially relatively speaking. Almost a shame that all press coverage tomorrow will  surely be focused on the fact that she sat next to Chris Brown tonight.

9:44 p.m.: Okay really as if a collaboration like that would lose. For what it’s worth, though, Nas’ album really is worth a listen.

9:49 p.m.: The Black Keys pack a punch as just a duo live. Can’t imagine what they can do with this….

9:50 p.m.: Okay, honestly, if you drown out Dan Auerbach’s vocals I cannot forgive you. Get it together, production team!

9:56 p.m.: Kelly Clarkson showing her skill with a song she performed on the original American Idol finalist CD. She’s only gotten better.

10:02 p.m.: After all of this hype, this Bob Marley thing should be great…..right?

10:07 p.m.: Yet another Grammys performance proves that Bruno Mars has the vocal chops to back up much more than his lukewarm pop career would seem to afford.

10:08 p.m.: ARE THEY REALLY DOING “WALKING ON THE MOON”?! And Sting is killing it, too. Not a doubter in the house.

10:10 p.m.: And of course, segue into what is possibly my favorite Bob Marley song. This tribute is amazing, I admit it. That brass section makes it!

10:18 p.m.: If you don’t know the words to this song, you’re lying.

10:22 p.m.: Jack White once again seemingly bent on waking up everyone in the audience. Not hard to find parallels to his entire career.

10:22 p.m.: Wow, congrats, Fun.! So many strong contenders in that category. “We’re so old!” – Nate Ruess.

10:35 p.m.: Is it startling anybody else at 2.5 hours in how few awards they’ve given out?

10:38 p.m.: So this alien phenomena going on with her dress makes me question what I said previously about set design…..

10:40 p.m.: At the beginning of this broadcast I would’ve predicted The Black Keys with a landslide.

10:41 p.m.: Ah, how things change! Definitely not surprising though. And, dude….you just accepted an award from Prince!

10:50 p.m.: Gorgeous tribute. So glad that song made its way into my musical education when I was young.

10:54 p.m.: Don’t know about anyone else, but this tribute reel is kind of like a roll call of artists who, among many others of course, influenced me growing up. Wow.

10:59 p.m.: It’s so easy to get swept up in the contemporary  the chart -toppers; but times like these remind me how much I owe to artists that came long before me. More than I can say, honestly.

11:08 p.m.: So we can agree that was  the best performance of the night, right? Okay. I’m not crying, I promise. I’m not…

11:09 p.m.: Okay, now I am. Thanks, Juanes.

11:14 p.m.: I really like Frank Ocean’s album, but that was honestly my least favorite track.

11:16 p.m.: Love the shout-out to the Black Keys from Mumford. Slightly surprised by their win, anyone else? Talk about a tough call. Wow.

11:17 p.m.: Also, am I totally unclear on the definition of “host”? Where the hell is LL?

11:25 p.m.: Oh, there he is. Performing with…Travis Barker. Sure. Why didn’t I guess?

11:27 p.m.: Oh, wow. My Beastie Boys-influenced heart was unprepared for this…almost as unprepared as I was for an ad for Delta Airlines popping up in the middle?!

11:29 p.m.: Okay, um, wow. So that was it. Interrupted for advertisements. Well, Happy Grammys, everyone. Congrats to the winners and, um….see you next time.
