Here’s one from left field — rumors are circulating that Microsoft is among the parties interested in purchasing Call of Duty publisher Activision. Let that sink in.

Reuters is reporting that the company behind the Xbox 360 is among a short list of potential buyers that Vivendi has discussed with a bank for a potential sale of the publishing giant. Microsoft reportedly joins Time Warner and Chinese company Tencent along with KKR, Providence and Blackstone as potential buyers.

Vivendi is reportedly looking to sell it’s 61% share of Activision to turn around its recent debt problems. We’ve contacted Microsoft for comment, and will update if we hear anything back.
