Earlier this month, Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion was packed with fans for an event that marked the end of an era.

Fortunately for fans, the station is set to live on in the digital realm via Boston.com in a project set to launch after 101.7 FM is sold.

In celebration of 29 years as one of Boston’s most prominent rock and alternative stations, 101.7 WFNX staged what would be be one of their last shows. The radio station, founded in 1983, pulled together six artists for a night filed with music and goodbyes. Stephie Coplan & The Pedestrians opened the show, followed by Reptar, Delta Spirit, GROUPLOVE, Cake, and headliners  Two Door Cinema Club. The numerous sets were interspersed with speeches by members of the WFNX team as they thanked fans for years of support.

On July 22, WFNX will go off the air. The station worked to popularize flagship alternative bands like Nirvana, Green Day and The Killers, and staged multiple shows in the Boston area throughout the years. Clear Channel Communications purchased the station on May 16 for approximately $14.5 million, a move which was a disappointment to New England’s alternative music community. Fortunately for fans, the station is set to live on in the digital realm via Boston.com in a project set to launch after 101.7 FM is sold.
