Adding a fifth color to its handhelds’ ever-growing color palette and evoking memories of the GameCube and Game Boy Advance, Nintendo is releasing a Midnight Purple version of its 3DS on May 20. This release coincides with the launch of Mario Tennis Open.

Midnight Purple was actually shown at E3 prior to the system’s launch, but it will finally make its way onto store shelves this month. If you have still yet to purchase a 3DS, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from as this color joins the handheld’s other color choices including Cosmo Black, Aqua Blue, Flame Red, and Pearl Pink.

Let’s hope Nintendo future plans to sell individual colored parts of their handheld so current 3DS owners can change up their look without having to buy a whole new system. This (most likely) won’t happen, but I guess that’s what purple protective covers are for.
