According to ABC, when ending their 25-year marriage, Maria Shriver spoke about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s admission that he fathered a child with one of their household staff members, who had worked for the family for 20 years, and hid the secret for 10 years, including when he ran for governor of California in 2003.

Shriver said in a statement, “This is a painful and heartbreaking time,” she commented. “As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment.”

Schwarzenegger’s admission to fathering a child with a household staff member eventually resulted in his separation from Shriver.

Schwarzenegger said in a statement issued to the Los Angels Times, “After leaving the governor’s office, I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”

It is reported that Schwarzenegger continues to provide for the child financially.
