A northern Texas firefighter was critically burned fighting a wildland fire last weekend, according to FirefighterCloseCalls.com, which reports on firefighter fatalities and injuries.

Elias Jacquez, a member of the Cactus, Texas Volunteer Fire Department, suffered third-degree burns over 60 percent of his body on Saturday while battling the blaze that burned 60,000 acres, or about 94 square miles.

The fire burned about 40 miles north of Amarillo.

Jacquez was taken by medical helicopter to University Medical Center in Lubbock where he is listed in critical condition.
