LOS ANGELES — The man who calls himself “Clark Rockefeller” has been charged with the 1985 murder of a California man.

The Boston Globe reports that Christian K. Gerhartsreiter, 50, a German national, is accused of murdering 27-year-old John Sohus, 27, of San Marino, Calif.

Prosecutors there are now seeking Gerhartsreiter’s extradition from Massachusetts.

Gerhartsreiter was convicted in the much-publicized parental abduction case that brought his mysterious and apparently violent past into the spotlight.

He was convicted of orchestrating the kidnapping of his daughter in Boston during a visit a few years ago.

According to the Globe, Sohus disappeared in early 1985. After that, a man named Christopher Chichester who lived in his guest house also vanished. Police believe “Chichester” was Gerhartsreiter.

Sohus’s body was found in May 1994.

According to the Globe, prosecutors will ask for bail of $10 million for Gerhartsreiter when he is arraigned.
