Remember when upfronts every year mattered? Back then, unless a show was a huge hit, you had to wait to find out if you’re favorite show was coming back or not.

Well, not anymore. NBC has already renewed “30 Rock,” and now ABC is renewing it’s major hits.

The net has ordered a third season for “Modern Family,” “Cougar Town,” and “The Middle,” keeping its Wednesday comedy block largely the same. Ditto for its Thursday sched, as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” will be back for an eighth and fifth season, respectively. And after years as a bubble show, “Castle” has stood on its own, and earned an early fourth season renewal.

“Desperate Housewives” was not renewed, though it’s believed to be returning, and remains one of the net’s highest rated shows. “V” is unlikely to renewed, and there are whispers this may be the swan year for “Brothers and Sisters.”
