The latest installment of the “Law and Order” series, “Law and Order: Los Angeles,” premiered strong at 10 p.m., leading the hour with a 3.2 rating and 10.5 million viewers. But at 8 p.m., the second outing of the J.J. Abrams spy-drama “Undercovers” dipped to a 1.6 rating and 7 million viewers. Don’t expect the show to get a back nine pickup. At 9 p.m., “Law and Order: SVU” averaged a 2.7 rating and 9.2 million viewers.

ABC had mixed results, as it’s entire lineup was down from last week. At 8 p.m., “The Middle” fell to a 2.4 rating and 8.3 million viewers. New comedy “Better with You” sank to a 2.1 rating and 7 million viewers, putting it in imminent cancellation watch. “Modern Family” dropped from its series highs to a 4.5 rating and 11 million viewers, while “Cougar Town” fell to a 2.9 rating and 7 million viewers. At 10 p.m, “The Whole Truth” was absolutely abysmal, turning in a 1.3 rating and 4.5 million viewers. Look for it to be cancelled very soon.

CBS led the evening in adults 18-49 and total viewers. At 8 p.m, “Survivor: Nicaragua” averaged a 3.5 rating and 12.2 million viewers. “Criminal Minds” drew more than 14 million viewers and a 3.5 rating. The weak link for the eye’s night was at 10, with new legal dramedy “The Defenders” averaging just a 2.5 rating and 10 million viewers.

On Fox, “Hell’s Kitchen” had a moderate night, averaging 6.2 million viewers and a 2.9 rating for the evening.
