Sunday Night Football was king in America, averaging 16 million viewers from 8:30 to 11, leaving Fox, ABC and CBS to fight for second place.

At 8, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” was in last place, averaging a 2.5 rating and 8.5 million viewers. ABC lifted at 9, as the seventh season of “Desperate Housewives” averaged 12.8 million viewers and a 4.2 rating. “Brothers and Sisters” drew 9.5 million viewers and a 3.0.

Fox had a successful night led by “Family Guy,” which was the top scripted show on television in the 9 o’clock hour with a 4.5 rating and 9.1 million viewers. “The Cleveland Show” was down considerably from it’s series premiere last year, with a 3.1 rating and 6.6 million viewers at 8:30. “The Simpsons” pulled 7.7 million viewers and a 3.7 rating at 8.

Football overrun from the afternoon affected CBS slate, pushing shows back, and upsetting the schedule. Between 8:15 and 10:15, the new season of “The Amazing Race” premiered to 12 million viewers and a 3.7 rating. “Undercover Boss” delivered 10 million viewers and a 3.7 rating. (Note: CBS ratings are not final and subject to adjustment; final numbers will be available later this week).
