Former child star Gary Coleman has died at age 42 after suffering a brain hemorrhage.

Mr. Coleman rose to fame on television’s “Diff’rent Strokes” but, like many child stars, dealt with an increasingly difficult adulthood.

“We are very sad to have to report Mr. Gary Coleman has passed away,” said Mr. Coleman’s spokesman, John Alcantar, in a statement Friday afternoon. “He was removed from life support; soon thereafter, he passed quickly and peacefully. By Gary’s bedside were his wife and other close family members.”

Coleman died in a Provo, Utah, hospital, according to news reports.

He became ill on Wednesday at his Santaquin, Utah home and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.
